An approach to make the information bound sharper in median-unbiased estimation, based on an analogue of the Cramer-Rao inequality developed by Sung et al. (1990), is introduced for continuous densities with a nuisance parameter by considering information quantities contained both in the parametric function of interest and in the nuisance parameter in a linear fashion. This approach is comparable to that of improving the information bound in mean-unbiased estimation for the case of two unknown parameters. Computation of an optimal weight corresponding to the nuisance parameter is also considered.

Some genetic association tests include an unidentifiable nuisance parameter under the null hypothesis of no association. When the mode of inheritance (MOI) is not specified in a case-control design, the Cochran-Armitage (CA) trend test contains an unidentifiable nuisance parameter. The transmission disequilibrium test (TDT) in a family-based association study that includes the unaffected also contains an unidentifiable nuisance parameter. The hypothesis tests that include an unidentifiable nuisance parameter are typically performed by taking a supremum of the CA tests or TDT over reasonable values of the parameter. The p-values of the supremum test statistics cannot be obtained by a normal or chi-square distribution. A common method is to use a Davies's upper bound of the p-value instead of an exact asymptotic p-value. In this paper, we provide a unified sine-cosine process expression of the CA trend test that does not specify the MOI and the TDT that includes the unaffected. We also present a closed form expression of the exact asymptotic formulas to calculate the p-values of the supremum tests when the score function can be written as a linear form in an unidentifiable parameter. We illustrate how to use the derived formulas using a pharmacogenetics case-control dataset and an attention deficit hyperactivity disorder family-based example.

The Dangri Crushed Stone Quarry is located in Dangridong, Busan City, and around the estuary of the Nagdong River. The quarry is considered to be a very promised one in the urban area from the standpoints of the assessment of the aggregate rank, the environmental impacts and the transportation distance. The crushed stones for aggregate of the quarry marks the higher rank in the gravity, the absorption ratio, the abrasion ratio, and the stability in comparison with the JISA 5005. The basement vibrations of the residential section in the vicinity of the quarry, which are arised by the millisecond blasting at the quarry site using the gelatin dynamites less than 39kg in weight, are measured to assess the vibration nuisance. The values of acceleration and the magnitudes are less than eight gals and O on the Richter scale respectively, the vibration nuisance thus can be ignored in such scales of the experiments. The traffic vibrations of the residential section are slightly susceptible. In the experiments, the traffic vibrations appears to be sensibler to the basement than the explosion vibration. The explosion noises in the experiments are not checked not only on the RION Sound Level Meter but also to our ears. The values of traffic noises also are in the safety values of the noise nuisance. The crush dust suspends in the air toward the upper valley in the opposite side of the residential area because of the influences of the sea breeze and the valley wind in the daytime, and the monsoon and the topographic disposition. the dust nuisance thus would not be remained in problem. The quarry is operated in the daytime only. The traffic dust in the residential area will be reduced by the faultless pavement and the careful driving. The elaborate survey on the ridges and peaks surrounded the quarry is recommended to prevent in advance the accidents of the rock slide. Moreover, it is required to make an advisory committee to develop the industry and to save the techniques. The most important matter is the accomodation between the attitude of the enterprising man for the social responsibility to the public nuisance and the cooperative spirit of the inhabitants for the industry.

Collecting data through experiment, the observers are an import source of measurement error and the inference on the measure of agreement, say kappa, is necessary. The models commonly used are complicated general mixture model, which have many nuisance parameters. Orthogonalization of parameters reduce the effect of nuisance parameter. Orthogonalization of estimating function gives the same effect as the parameter orthogonalization. In this study, the method for orthogonalization of estimating equation is studied and applied to the Beta-binomial model to examine the properties of the estimate of kappa. As a result, the likelihood function is insensitive to the change of the nuisance parameter and bias is smaller than the result of m.1.e. when kappa has extreme values

This paper is basic study for development of an advanced photoelectric type smoke detector that has high reliability by reducing the occurrence of nuisance alarms. This paper was attempted to distinguish optical characteristics of the typical fire smoke particle and non-fire smoke particle. According to UL 268 standards, three types of test fires (the paper, the wood and the flammable liquid) were used in this paper for measurement of the fire smoke particles, and the water vapor and the cigarette smoke that were known as the main cause of the nuisance alarms were also used for the non-fire smoke particles. A smoke detection chamber was created, which was equipped with one light source and several light sensors for enabling simultaneous detection of light extinction and scattering, respectively. This paper analyzes the optical characteristics of each smoke particle using this chamber.

In this paper we propose a method to test $\textit{H}$:$\rho_i$=$\gamma_i$ for 1$\leq$$\textit{i}$$\leq$$\ell$ against $\textit{K}$:$\rho_i$$\neq$$\gamma_i$ for some iin k-variance component random or mixed linear model where $\rho$i denotes the ratio of the i-th variance component to the error variance and $\ell$$\leq$K. The test which we call Rao-Wald test is exact and does not depend upon nuisance parameters. From a numerical study of the power performance of the test of the interaction effect for the case of a two-way random model Rao-Wald test was seen to be quite comparable to the locally best invariant (LBI) test when the nuisance parameters of the LBI test are assumed known. When the nuisance parameters of the LBI test are replaced by maximum likelihood estimators Rao-Wald test outperformed the LBI test.
This paper consider the testing problem of variance component for the unbalanced two-way error component model with nuisance parameter. We derive the one-sided LM test statistic for testing zero individual(time) effects assuming that the other time-specific(individual) effects are present. Using the Monte Carlo experiments, the computational more demanding LR test slightly underestimates the nominal size and has the low powers relative to LM test statistic.
This paper presents an alarm system for the integrated monitoring and control station of waterworks in Daegu City. An alarm system informs the operator or other responsible individuals about the abnormality in the process so that an appropriate action can be taken. In practice, operators receive far more false and nuisance alarms than valid and useful alarms. Too many false and nuisance alarms can distract the operator from operating the plant, and thus critical alarms may be ignored. This problem can lead to the point that the operator no longer trusts the alarms or even shuts down the whole monitoring system. This paper proposes an efficient method to reduce false and nuisance alarms by prioritizing every fault using the Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) technique. The effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated with a set of computer simulation under various faulty conditions.
Huge numbers of non-biting midges emerged from brackish water which were made at the harbor construction field in Jinhae City, Kyongsangnam-do, Korea in late summer in 2005, and caused a serious nuisance to villagers. The midges were collected and identified as Chironomus salinarius (Kieffer, 1921). Although this species was recorded in Korea for the first time in 1998, the morphological descriptions were so brief and simple. A full redescription is made with detailed illustrations for ecological and control workers of this nuisance midge.

Lying is nuisance to all, and all liars knows it is nuisance but still keep on lying. Sometime people are in confusion how to escape from or how to detect the liar when they lie. In this research we are aiming to establish a dynamic platform to identify liar by using video analysis especially by calculating the ratio of changes in their appearance when they lie. The platform will be developed using a machine learning algorithm along with the dynamic classifier to classify the liar. For the experimental analysis the dataset to be processed in two dimensions (people lying and people tell truth). Both parameter of facial appearance will be stored for future identification. Similarly, there will be standard parameter to be built for true speaker and liar. We hope this standard parameter will be able to diagnosed a liar without a pre-captured data.
