The purpose of this study is to lay groundwork for a complete analysis of two component flow by analyzing a single component flow made of continuous fluid without dispersed phase. In order to achieve uniform velocity distributions which are desirable in designing an optimum spray column direct contact heat exchanger, the influence of injection nozzle orientation has been investigated for axial and radial injections. The results that radial injection ensures more uniform velocity distributions compared to the axial case. The flow characteristics in a spray column have been investigated with various L/D values and inlet velocities, the most uniform internal velocity distributions have been obtained for the case of L/D=10 and 0.1m/sec. In the present investigation, it is shown that radial injection method for the continuous flow is advantageous in obtaining desirable uniform velocity distributions in a spray column. It is also found that as the value of L/D increases and the inlet velocity decreases, the flow improves to be better uniform velocity distributions.

In this study, the spray characteristics of a pressure swirl atomizer classified into a liquid sheet-type swirl nozzle for Urea-SCR system were investigated experimentally with the variation of injection pressure. The length to diameter ratio ($l_o/d$) of the nozzle was 3.1, and the swirler was set inside the nozzle tip to give injecting fluid angular momentum. The injection duration of the nozzle was controlled by PWM (pulse width modulation) modes. The development processes of the spray were imaged by a 2-D PIV system, and the change of spray angle was measured. The atomization characteristics, including axial velocity and SMD, were measured using a 2-D PDA system with the injection pressures at room temperature and ambient pressure conditions. As the experimental results, the injection pressure had a significant impact on the spray structure showing a different shape around the spray leading edge, and the smaller SMD was observed with increasing injection pressures, which was similar to that of the previous work.
The objective of this paper is to find out the most effective injection angle for the purpose of deicing through SC/Tetra, a commonly used CFD software. Nowadays, vehicles are developed giving priority to an improved interior which emphasizes a pleasant environment and thermal comfort without decreasing the basic performance. Clear visibility is one of the most important phenomenon. The primary factors which affect the efficiency of deicing are 3D geometry of Defrost Nozzle, the inlet velocity and temperature of the flow and the injection angle. However in this paper, all these parameters are optimized by changing the injection angle. A wide range of injection angle from 5 degree to 50 degree have been considered for analysis. A very good defrosting performance has been achieved with 45 degree injection angle which can satisfy the condition of NHTSA.

An experimental study has been conducted to verify the startup characteristic of a Center Body Diffuser (CBD) for simulating a low pressure environment when at high altitudes. Vacuum chamber pressure and startup characteristics of the CBD were investigated according to various geometries of the center body structure by a cold gas flow test. The test results show that the startup pressure is lowest when the center body contraction angle is approximately $15^{\circ}$. The startup characteristic of the CBDs significantly improves when the diffuser inlet length ($L_d/D_d$) is decreasing and the divergence length ($L_s$) is increasing. Additionally, it is possible to simulate various high altitude, low pressure conditions for various rocket engines that have different nozzle expansion ratios by adjusting the center body's position inside the diffuser.
This study was carried out to clarify the effects of the application of pesticide by different spray nozzle types on pesticide residues. The average droplet size and discharge rate were investigated when the manual compressed sprayer with two head disk type nozzle and the knapsack engine powered sprayer with two head fan shape nozzles were used. The fan type nozzles were classified into three types by the number of orifice in the nozzle. Three type nozzles tested were fan with one orifice, fan with two orifices and fan with three orifices. Fan (trade name : D-3) with 2.4 L/min. of the discharge rate and $76{\mu}m$ of the average droplet size while maintaining constant pressure $1.1{\pm}0.2$ MPa, and fan D-35 with 2.6 L/min. and $90{\mu}m$ while maintaining constant pressure $1.0{\pm}0.2$ MPa were appropriate. The orifice size of D-3 was 0.65 mm length ${\times}$ 0.45 mm width and the orifice size of D-35 was 0.62 mm length ${\times}$ 0.46 mm width. The residue levels of imidacloprid on perilla leaves among four applications by four different nozzles show significantly difference with 5% significance level. The residue levels $3.76{\sim}3.92mg\;kg^{-1}$ by fan or disk type is smaller than $4.52{\sim}4.92mg\;kg^{-1}$ by fan II or fan III. The residue levels of imidacloprid on perilla leaf were different depend on the spray nozzles type.

The effect of two-phase spray injected into subsonic cross-flow was studied experimentally. External-mixing of two-phase spray from orifice nozzle with L/d of 3 was tested with various air-liquid ratio that ranges from 0 to 59.4%. Trajectory of spray and breakup phenomena were investigated by shadowgraph photography. Detailed spray structure was characterized in terms of SMD, droplet velocity, and volume flux using PDPA. Experimental results indicate that penetration length was increased and collision point of liquid jets approached to nozzle exit and distributions of mist-like spray were obtained by increasing air-liquid ratio.
The effects of projectile impact system on the transient spray characteristic which is supersonic liquid tip velocity were studied by experimentally. Supersonic liquid jets were generated by impact of a high speed projectile driven by a Two-stage light gas gun. A high speed camera and schlieren optical system were used to capture the spray structures of the supersonic liquid jets. In a case of nozzle assembly Type-A, expansion gases accelerate a projectile which has a mass of 6 grams from 250 m/s at the exit of the launch tube. Accelerated projectile collides with the liquid storage part, then supersonic liquid jets are injected with instantaneous spray tip velocity from 617.78 m/s to 982.54 m/s with various nozzle L/d. However, In a case of nozzle assembly Type-B which has a heavier projectile (60 grams) and lower impact velocity (182 m/s), an impact pressure was decreased. Thus the liquid jet injected at 210 m/s of the maximum velocity did not penetrate a shock wave and fast break-up was occurred. Pulsed injection of liquid column generated second shock wave and multiple shock wave.

The study for the performance characteristics of the nozzleless booster used in ramjet booster was carried out. Performances related to pressure and thrust for nozzleless booster are lower than classical motor those because of absence of convergent and divergent sections of nozzle. To solve this problem, it developed a high-performance propellant with maximum impulse density included Al as metal fuel. Using the nozzleless booster casted the propellant, ground test of it was carried out by varying the length-to-diameter ratio (L/D ratio) of the propellant. Specific impulse of nozzleless booster was limited to about 75 percents of its value compared with that of classical motor adapted nozzle in the same propellant and propellant length and will be estimated approximately 85 percents of its value compared with that of classical motor at same average pressure in terms of the curve fitting by our test results.

Measurements of the local heat transfer coeffcients on a spherically concave surface with a round impinging jet are presented. The liquid crystal transient method was used for these measurements. This method, which is a variation on the transient method, suddenly exposes a preheated wall to an impinging jet while video recording the response of liquid crystals for the measurement of the surface temperature. The Reynolds numbers used were 1,000, 23,000 and 50,000 and the nozzle-to-jet distance was L/d=2, 4, 6, 8, 10. Presented results are compared to previous measurements for flat plate. In the experiment, the local heat transfer Nusselt numbers on a concave surface are higher than those on a flat plate. Maximum Nusselt number at all region occured at L/d=6 and second maximum in the Nusselt number occured at R/d=2 for both Re=50,000 and Re=23,000 in case of L/d=2 and for only Re=50,000 in case of L/d=4. All other cases exhibit monotonically decreasing value of the Nusselt number along the curved surface.
