Hydrogen is considered to be a clean energy because it doesn't generate the global warming gas such as $CO_2$, SOx and NOx, after its combustion. In this study, strain YJ isolated from shore system was used to produce efficiently hydrogen using the various carbon sources such as glucose, sucrose and fructose and its characteristics were investigated in batch cultivation. The maximum hydrogen production shown that glucose, sucrose and fructose were highest obtained at 2, 4 and 5 % concentration, respectively. In addition, we investigated the effect of pH under various conditions as range of initial pH 5.5 to 8.0 pH because growth of strain YJ declined due to produced organic acids. The results showed that the highest production rate of hydrogen was obtained at pH 7.5.

This paper presents the results of field demonstration for fuel switching to bio-fuel oil in 4 commercial heavy oil fired power plants. The 100% fuel switching field demonstration was successfully carried out in two tangential-firing boilers at a capacity of 75 and 100 MWe respectively without major equipment retrofit, and also 25% bio-fuel oil blending for two opposite firing boilers at a capacity of 350 and 400 MWe respectively. Despite the low density and heating value, the bio fuel was successfully replaced heavy fuel oil at the full load by only adjusting operational parameters. Incase of bio fuel oil combustion, heat absorption of radiative heat transfer section was reduced while convection section has opposite trend. In pollutants emission, a major reductionin SOx as well as 10-20% reduction in NOx were achieved by the fuels witching. On the other hand, boiler efficiency was slightly underestimated.
Recently, the researches for air pollutant control technologies have been performing in Korea, while considering an one of the latest main topics as problems on air pollutant control. However, it is difficult to investigate emission amount of air pollutant by passenger cars, because of lack of the domestic information about mobile source; the number of research institutes are less in the whole. Especially, the informations on registered numbers and emissions of motorcycles are less. Thus, in this study, the analysis that is based on experimental results was conducted for finding out source profiling and emission characteristics on motorcycles exhaust. For these experiments, the domestic motorcycles were chosen and evaluated by EURO III standard. From the result, controlled pollutants (CO, HC, NOx) were met to EURO III, but low displacement motorcycles showed a higher incomplete combustion reaction than that of 250 cc motorcycles. Additionally, uncontrolled pollutants (BTEX and 1,3-butadiene) were decreased with increasing a displacement of motorcycles. However, the emission trend of aldehydes was not followed that of those; the formaldehyde ratio increased upto approximately 33%, with increasing a displacement of motorcycles. In the future, it would be used to support the CAPSS as basic data of Korea.
Imaging Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (Imaging-DOAS) has been utilized in recent years to provide slant column density (SCD) distributions of several trace gas species in the plume. The present study introduces a new method using Imaging-DOAS data to determine two-dimensional plume structure from the plume emissions of power plant in conditions of negligible aerosol effects on radiative transfer within the plume. We demonstrates for the first time that two-dimensional distributions of sulfur dioxide ($SO_2$) and nitrogen dioxide ($NO_2$) in power plant emissions can be determined simultaneously in terms of SCD distribution. The $SO_2$ SCD values generally decreased with increasing distance from the stack and with distance from the center of the plume. Meanwhile, high $NO_2$ SCD was observed at locations several hundred meters away from the first stack due to the ratio change of NO to $NO_2$ in NOx concentration, attributed to the NO oxidation by $O_3$. The results of this study show the capability of the Imaging-DOAS technique as a tool to estimate plume dimensions in power plant emissions.
This study is analyzed combustion phenomena based on the environmental energy facility incinerator. It is assumed that combustible components of waste are composed of carbon and hydrogen, and the combustion process of fuel is by setting as multi-component / multistage reaction. As the combustion chamber is burned, the high temperature environment is achieved, also the heat transfer accompanied by the turbulent flow and the generation of NOx, a pollutant, are interpreted to predict the thermal and fluid characteristics and pollution emissions of the grate incinerator. As the result of internal flow analysis, the slow flow around the ash chute and the mixing effect due to the complicated turbulence around the combustion chamber were predicted to show excellent performance. It is shown to the internal average temperature was about $1024^{\circ}C$, around the about $1000^{\circ}C$ homogeneous temperature distribution. Due to the sudden temperature decrease in the boiler, the flue gas temperature at the outlet was estimated to be about $220^{\circ}C$.

Despite the increasingly stringent automotive emissions regulations, the impact of vehicle emissions on air pollution remains large. In addition, since the issue of emission of more exhaust gas than the exhaust gas measured in the test room when the vehicle passing the exhaust gas regulation standard is run on the actual road, many countries studied and introduced gas regulations about Real Driving Emission using Portable Emission Measurement System. At present, Korea regulations restrict the number of NOx and PN in diesel vehicles. In the case of gasoline vehicles, there is no regulation on emission gas, but there is a problem of continuing automobile exhaust gas problems and a large amount of gasoline GDI vehicle's PN emission. So research and interest are increasing due to this problem. In this study, characteristics of exhaust gas depending on changes of ambient temperature were analyzed among various factors affecting exhaust gas measurement of gasoline vehicles. As a result, at the low temperature test, the lower the ambient temperature, the more the exhaust gas was emitted. At ordinary temperature test, no specific tendency was observed due to changes of ambient temperature.

This study was performed by the numerical approach to investigate chemical behaviors of homogeneous syngas ($CO/H_2$) with nitric monoxide (NO) in pressurized oxy-fuel conditions. Hydrogen had a dominant effect to the ignition delay time of syngas due to the fast chemistry of its oxidation. Combustion was promoted by NO at the low temperature region. It was by the additional heat release through NO oxidation and production and consumption of major radicals related to the ignition. Two stage ignition behavior was shown in the pressurized condition by the accumulation of $H_2O_2$ produced from $HO_2$ radical. Additional NO oxidation was induced by the pressurized oxy-fuel condition to produce $NO_2$.
Nitrogen oxides (NOx; NO and NO2) are major air pollutants and can cause harmful effects on the human body. Electron Beam Flue Gas Treatment (EBFGT) is a technology that generates electrons with an energy of 0.5-1 MeV using electron accelerators and effectively processes exhaust gases. In this study, NOx was removed using an electron beam accelerator with spraying additives (NaOH and NH4OH). NO and NO2 were 100% and more than 94% removed, respectively, at an electron beam absorbed dose of 20 kGy and an additive concentration of 0.02 M (mol/L). In most cases, NOx was removed better with lower initial NOx concentrations and higher electron beam absorbed doses. As the irradiation strength (mA) of the electron beam increases, the probability of electron impact on the material accordingly rises, which may lead to increase removal efficiency. The results of the present study show that the continuous electron beam process using additives achieved more effective removal efficiency than either individual process (wet-scrubbing or EB irradiation only).
In general, $CH_4$ concentrations generated in combustion facilities are known to be ppm units. In most cases, $CH_4$ samples are collected in Tedlar bags and transported to laboratories for analysis. Considering this fact, in the present study, an attempt was made to find out how long samples can be stored in cases where they are kept in bags and transported as a preliminary study for sampling. According to the results of the experiment using simulated gases (1 ppm, 5 ppm, 10 ppm) in Tedlar bag, $CH_4$ was safe up to 240 hr which is the full time. In the case of simulated gases are containing 4 kind gases ($N_2$, $CO_2$, $CH_4$, and $N_2O$). Field samples (samples of obtained by collecting combustion facilities' exhaust gases) are known to contain highly reactive substances (for example NOx, SOx, and VOCs) and may affect each other. In the present study, one site sample was secured from each of a bituminous coal combustion facility and an LNG combustion facility and whether the concentrations of $CH_4$ gas would change over time (24 hr, 96 hr, 144 hr, 192 hr) was checked. Since site samples could not be analyzed on the day of collection, an experiment was started 24 hr after the time point of sampling to analyze the samples. As with the results of analysis of the simulated gas (240 hr), the results of analysis using the site sample indicated that it could be stored for the full study period 192 hr. Therefore, it was judged that if 192 hr would be taken after sampling before the sample would be analyzed, the concentration value should be reliable.

Numerical Study with detailed chemistry has been conducted to investigate the flame structure and NOx formation characteristics in oxygen -enhanced(CH$_4$/O$_2$-$N_2$) and oxygen-enhanced-EGR(CH$_4$/O$_2$-$CO_2$) counter diffusion flame with various strain rates. A small amount of $N_2$is included in oxygen-enhanced-EGR combustion, in order to consider the inevitable $N_2$contamination by $O_2$production process or air infiltration. The results are as follows : In CH$_4$/O$_2$-$CO_2$flame it is very important to adopt a radiation effect precisely because the effect of radiation changes flame structure significantly. In CH$_4$/O$_2$-$N_2$flame special strategy to minimize NO emission is needed because it is very sensitive to a small amount of $N_2$. Special attention is needed on CO emission by flame quenching, because of increased CO concentration. Spatial NO production rate of oxygen-enhanced combustion is different from that of air and oxygen-enhanced-EGR combustion in that thermal mechanism plays a role of destruction as well as production. In case CH$_4$/O$_2$-$CO_2$flame contains more than 40% $CO_2$it is possible to maintain the same EINO as that of CH$_4$/Air flame with accomplishing higher temperature than that of CH$_4$/Air flame. EINO decreases with increasing strain rate, and those effects are augmented in CH$_4$/O$_2$flame.
