  • This paper is aiming at calculating NOx concentration, which is one of the harmhul components of emission from the gasoline engine, formed in the combustor through the presess of combustion. Instantaneous temperature and concentration of each components for each division can be determined by the solution of simulatneous equation of reaction equation and equation of energy conservation, inputting the estimated temperature with a considerably wide rage of temperature. After determining instantaneous temperature and instantanous concentration of each components, the nonequilibrium calculation is performed based on the reaction kinetics in order to determine NOx concentration. To summarize the result abtained from the above method ;through the passage of NO concentration, NO concentration is the highest in the first division and it is gradually decreasing through the following divisions In the final division, NO concentation is the lowest.

  • Computations were performed to investigate the spray characteristics of the twin fluid nozzle in three stage heavy-oil combustion burner. The burner geometry and flow conditions were provided by a burner company. The goal of the study is to estimate mean droplet size, initial velocity and spread factor of the nozzle through comparison between experiments and numerical analyses. Air stage ratio is 2:4:4 by mass, and O2 in exhaust gas is about 4 % by volume. Here, the agreement between the experiment and numerical analyses is evaluated by NOx generation. Spray characteristics will be linearly interpolated between fuel consumption rate l20L/h and 240 L/h.

  • 50 kW$_{th}$ 용량의 기체연료버너에서 암모니아 기체와 요소용액을 이용한 선택적 무촉매 환원법 (SNCR;Selective Non-catalytic Reduction) 으로 질소산화물 (NOx) 저감에 관하여 연구하였다. 암모니아는 요소요액보다 더 낮은 반응온도에서 더 높은 효율을 보여주지만 경제성과 암모니아의 부식성 및 맹독성으로 인하여 취급하기에 곤란한 점이 있다. 반면에 요소용액은 적절한 액상첨가제와 기상첨가제를 사용하여 넓은 반응온도범위에서 높은 효율을 얻을 수 있으며 공정상의 조업비를 절감할 수 있다. 본 실험에서는 액상 첨가제인 $CH_3$OH 와 $C_2$H$_{5}$OH 을 사용하여 5$0^{\circ}C$ 정도의 최적반응온도 감소를 얻었으며 LPG 와 합성가스(CH$_4$:CO:H$_2$:$CO_2$=1:4:4:2) 틀 기상 첨가제로 사용하여 높은 질소산화물 저감 효율을 관찰하였다.

  • Specific sensitivity of the skin to ultraviolet B (UVB) rays is one of the mechanisms responsible for widespread skin damage. This study tested whether 1,3,5-trihydroxybenzene (THB), a compound abundant in marine products, might inhibit UVB radiationinduced NADPH oxidase 4 (NOX4) in both human HaCaT keratinocytes and mouse dorsal skin and explore its cytoprotective mechanism. The mechanism of action was determined using western blotting, immunocytochemistry, NADP+/NADPH assay, reactive oxygen species (ROS) detection, and cell viability assay. THB attenuated UVB-induced NOX4 expression both in vitro and in vivo, and suppressed UVB-induced ROS generation via NADP+ production, resulting in increased cell viability with decreased apoptosis. THB also reduced the expression of UVB-induced phosphorylated AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and phosphorylated c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK). THB suppressed UVB-induced NOX4 expression and ROS generation by inhibiting AMPK and JNK signaling pathways, thereby inhibiting cellular damage. These results showed that THB could be developed as a UV protectant.

Characterization of contribution of vehicle emissions to ambient NO2 using stable isotopes (안정동위원소를 이용한 이동오염원에 의한 대기 중 NO2의 거동특성 연구)

  • Sources of NOx are both anthropogenic (e.g. fossil fuel combustion, vehicles, and other industrial processes) and natural (e.g. lightning, biogenic soil processes, and wildfires). The nitrogen stable isotope ratio of NOx has been proposed as an indicator for NOx source partitioning, which would help identify the contributions of various NOx sources. In this study, the ${\delta}^{15}N-NO_2$ values of vehicle emissions were measured in an urban region, to understand the sources and processes that influence the isotopic composition of NOx emissions. The Ogawa passive air sampler was used to determine the isotopic composition of $NO_2$(g). In urban tunnels, the observed $NO_2$ concentration and ${\delta}^{15}N-NO_2$ values averaged $3809{\pm}2656ppbv$ and $7.7{\pm}1.8$‰, respectively. The observed ${\delta}^{15}N-NO_2$ values are associated with slight regional variations in the vehicular $NO_2$ source. Both $NO_2$ concentration and ${\delta}^{15}N-NO_2$ values were significantly higher near the expressway ($965{\pm}125ppbv$ and $5.9{\pm}1.4$‰) than at 1.1 km from the expressway ($372{\pm}96ppbv$ and $-11.5{\pm}2.9$‰), indicating a high proportion of vehicle emissions. Ambient ${\delta}^{15}N-NO_2$ values were used in a binary mixing model to estimate the percentage of the ${\delta}^{15}N-NO_2$ value contributed by vehicular NOx emissions. The calculated percentage of the ${\delta}^{15}N-NO_2$ contribution by vehicles was significantly higher close to the highway, as observed for the $NO_2$ concentration and ${\delta}^{15}N-NO_2$.

  • The crosslinking reaction and oxidative stability of low-density polyethylene were studied in the presence of trifunctional monomers and antioxidants with electron beam. The trifunctional monomers used in this study are Trimethylolpropane triacrylate(TMPTA), Trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate(TMPTM) and Triallyl cyanurate(TAC). And the antioxidants are Irganox 1010 (Pentaerythritoltetrakis[3-(3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-propionatel]), Santo-nox R(4,4'-Thio-bis(3-methyl-6-t-butylphenol)), Nocrac D(N-phenyl-$\beta$-naphthylamine) and Bis-phenol A(4,4'-Isopropylidene bisphenol). Among the monomers, TMPTA is the best crosslinking agent and prvides polyethylene with oxidative stability. Among the antioxidants, Nocrac D is the best antioxidant for polyethylene.

Combustive Characteristic and Toxic Gases Generation of Interior Materials -The focus for resist-carpet, resist-after-tretment plywood, sofa leather- (내장재의 연소 및 독성가스 발생 특성 -방염 카페트, 방염 후처리 합판, 쇼파 내자를 중심으로-)

  • It was studied a compared estimation of the fire risk of the three kinds of the interior materials, such as a resist carpet, a resist-after-treatment plywood and sofa leather. Toxic gases, CO, CO2, NOx, SO2, HCN, HCI were detected during the combustion of the samples. A resist-carpet was more combustible than the resist-after-treatment plywood and sofa leather in the combustion characteristics and has a blow-up-combustion of combustion in all the samples. The generation of CO reached the lethal doses in minute after the combustion was begun. NOx and So2 were detected not more than each of the lethal doses, while HCN was detected in the carpet 20.6 times than the sofa leather, and 4.6 times than the resist-after-treatment plywood. HCI was detected in the carpet 4.48 times than the sofa leather and 2.47 times than the resist-after-treatment plywood. It is conclusion that the carpet was the highest in the fire risk among the three kinds of the interior materials.

  • Essentially combination of spark ignition and compression ignition engines, the HCCI engine exhibits low NOx and Particulate Matter (PM) emissions as well as high efficiency under part load. This paper is concerned with the Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) engine as a new concept in engines and a power source for future automotive applications. In this research, a 4 cylinder diesel engine was converted into a HCCI engine, and propane was used as the fuel. The purpose of this research is to show the effects of fuel flow rate and the temperature of the intake manifold on the performance and exhaust of an HCCI engine.

  • This study consists of instrumenting and running tests on variable compression engines and measuring the following combustion characterics: (a)flame speed, (b) emission and (c)performance parameter such as power and economy. The results were as follows: 1) The phase separation diagram of substitute fuels were obtained from phase separation experiment. 2) The flame propagation speed of substitute fuels were higher than gasoline and increased with increasing methanol weight percent of substitute fuels. 3) BEMP of substitute fuels was slightly less than that of gasoline but in the range of small weight percent, BEMP was compatible to gasoline. 4) Concentration of NOx decreased significantly with delaying spark advancing time. Also, it decreased for rich equivalence ratio but increased with high compression ratio. In general, NOx concentration was much lower than that of gasoline. 5) Concentration of HC and CO increased for rich equivalence ratio. Also it was lower than that of gasoline.

  • 본 연구에서는 양산중인 배기량 2.4Liter, 간접분사방식의 소형 디젤엔진에서 연소방식을 직접 분사방식으로 연소계를 재설계하여, 간접분사방식과 직접분사방식에 따른 엔진성능상의 차이점을 비교 평가하고, 아울러 직접분사방식에서 연소실 형상과 연소 관련 주요 인자들의 변경시 엔 진성은에 미치는 영향에 대해 고찰하였다. 직접분사방식 엔진은 간접분사방식 엔진에 대해 동 일출력, 동일 Smoke 수준인 경우 10-15%의 연료소비 저감의 효과가 있고, 이에 따라 연소관련 부품의 열부하면에서도 유리하였으나, 소음 및 NOx 배출은 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 직접분사 연소방식에서는 Deep Bowl 연소실 형태의 Cylindrical Type 과 Re-entrant Type 에서 연비와 Smoke 등을 고려한 최적 분사시기가 Re-entrant Type 에서 4.deg. CA정도 늦었으며, 각기 최적 분사시기에서 스옴, NOx를 비교한 결과 Re-entrant Type이 더 우수하였다.
