  • Characteristics of a turbulence wind model control the magnitude and frequency distribution of wind loading on floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs), and an in-depth understanding of how wind spectral characteristics affect the responses, and ultimately the design cost of system components, is in shortage in the offshore wind industry. Wind spectrum models as well as turbulence intensity curves recommended by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) have characteristics derived from land-based sites, and have been widely adopted in offshore wind projects (in the absence of site-specific offshore data) without sufficient assessment of design implications. In this paper, effects of wind spectra and turbulence intensities on the strength or extreme responses of a 5 MW floating offshore wind turbine are investigated. The impact of different wind spectral parameters on the extreme blade loads, nacelle accelerations, towertop motions, towerbase loads, platform motions and accelerations, and mooring line tensions are presented and discussed. Results highlight the need to consider the appropriateness of a wind spectral model implemented in the strength design of FOWT structures.

  • The analytical approach for stability and response of iced conductor under uniform wind or turbulent wind is presented in this study. A nonlinear dynamic model is established to describe the motion of iced conductor galloping. In the case of uniform wind, the stability condition is derived by analyzing the eigenvalue associated with linearized matrix; The first order and second order approximation of galloping amplitude are obtained using multi-scale method. However, real wind has random characteristics essentially. To accurately evaluate the performance of the galloping iced conductor, turbulence wind should be described by random processes. In the case of turbulence wind, the Lyapunov exponent is conducted to judge the stability condition; The probability density of displacement is obtained by using the path integral method to predict galloping amplitude. An example is proposed to verify the effectiveness of the previous methods. It is shown that the fluctuating component of wind has little influence on the stability of iced conductor, but it can increase galloping amplitude. The analytical results on stability and response are also verified by numerical time stepping method.

  • A Navier-stokes based finite volume method has been developed to analyze an incompressible, steady state, turbulent wall-jet flow. The standard k-e model, the RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model and their nonlinear counterparts are adopted as a closure relationship. Comparison with the experimental data shows that a linear ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model performs satisfatorily for two-dimensional wall-jet flows. However, as the flow becomes three dimensional, the linear model fails to predict the spanwise jet growth accurately and the nonlinear model needs to be adopted to capture three-dimensional flow characteristics.

  • A nonlinear low-Reynolds-number k-.epsilon. model of Park and Sung was extended to predict the flows over a step with inclined wall, where a boundary layer flow without separation and a separated and reattaching flow coexist. For a better prediction of the flows, a slight modification was made on the function of the wall damping( $f_{\mu}$) and the model constant ( $C_{{\epsilon}1}$) in the .epsilon.-equation. The model performance was validated by comparing the model predictions with the experiment. It was shown that the flows over a step with inclined wall are simulated successfully with the present model.ent model.

  • Two versions of anisotropic k-ε turbulence model are incorporated in the modified k-ε model of Sohn et al. to avoid the need for the experimental normal stress value in the model and applied to convergent and divergent flows with strong and adverse pressure gradients in the plane of symmetry of a body of revolution. The models are the nonlinear k-ε model of Speziale and the anisotropic model of Nisizima & Yoshizawa. All of the models yield satisfactory results for relatively complex flow on a plane-of-symmetry boundary layer. The results of the models are compared with those results of experimental normal stress value.

  • A nonlinear low-Reynolds-number heat transfer model is developed to predict turbulent flow and heat transfer in separated and reattaching flows. The $k-{\varepsilon}-f_{\mu}$ model of Park and Sung (1997) is extended to a nonlinear formulation, based on the nonlinear model of Gatski and Speziale (1993). The limiting near-wall behavior is resolved by solving the $f_{\mu}$ elliptic relaxation equation. An improved explicit algebraic heat transfer model is proposed, which is achieved by applying a matrix inversion. The scalar heat fluxes are not aligned with the mean temperature gradients in separated and reattaching flows; a full diffusivity tensor model is required. The near-wall asymptotic behavior is incorporated into the $f_{\lambda}$ function in conjunction with the $f_{\mu}$ elliptic relaxation equation. Predictions of the present model are cross-checked with existing measurements and DNS data. The model preformance is shown to be satisfactory.

제시된 모형을 Nezu and Onitsuka (2001)의 실험수로에 적용하여 모의된 결과를 실험 계측자료 및 Kang and Choi (2006)의 Reynolds stress model 모의결과와 비교하였다.

  • The effects of the nonlinear (quadratic) term in wind pressure have been analyzed in many papers with reference to linear structural models. The present paper addresses the problem of the response of nonlinear structures to stochastic nonlinear wind pressure. Adopting a single-degree-of-freedom structural model with polynomial nonlinearity, the solution is obtained by means of the moment equation approach in the context of It$\hat{o}$'s stochastic differential calculus. To do so, wind turbulence is idealized as the output of a linear filter excited by a Gaussian white noise. Response statistical moments are computed for both the equivalent linear system and the actual nonlinear one. In the second case, since the moment equations form an infinite hierarchy, a suitable iterative procedure is used to close it. The numerical analyses regard a Duffing oscillator, and the results compare well with Monte Carlo simulation.

  • This paper deals with a problem of automatic landing guidance and control ofthe longitudinal airplane motion under the wind shear turbulence. Adaptive gainscheduled PID control law is proposed in this paper. Fuzzy logic is the main part ofthe adaptive PID controller as gain scheduler. To illustrate the successful applicationof the proposed control law to the automatic landing control problem, numericalsimulation is carried out based on the longitudinal nonlinear airplane model excited bythe wind shear turbulence. The simulation results show that the automatic landingmaneuver is successfully achieved with the satisfactory performance and the gainadaptation of the control law is made adequately within the limited gains.

  • The Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations are commonly used in industrial applications due to their computational efficiency. However, the linear eddy viscosity model (LEVM) used in RANS often fails to accurately capture the anisotropy of Reynolds stress in complex flow conditions. To enhance RANS predictive accuracy, data-driven closure models, such as Tensor Basis Neural Network (TBNN) and Tensor Basis Random Forest (TBRF), have been proposed. However existing models, including TBNN and TBRF, have limitations in capturing the nonlocal patterns of turbulence models, resulting in irregular and unsmooth predictions. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are considered as an alternative approach, but their reliance on discretization poses challenges when dealing with arbitrarily designed meshes in RANS simulations. In this study, we propose a nonlinear convolutional neural operator as the RANS closure model. Our model satisfies Galilean invariance, can learn nonlocal physics, and recovers high-resolution physics even when trained on undersampled grids. The model outperforms existing TBNN and TBRF models, successfully predicting smooth fields of Reynolds stress in flows with adverse pressure gradients, separations, and streamline curvature, where existing models struggle or fail to provide accurate predictions.
