  • The problem of designing a nonlinear sliding surface for an uncertain system is considered. The proposed sliding surface comprises a linear time invariant term and an additional time varying nonlinear term. It is assumed that a linear sliding surface parameter matrix guaranteeing the asymptotic stability of the sliding mode dynamics is given. The linear sliding surface parameter matrix is used for the linear term of the proposed sliding surface. The additional nonlinear term is designed so that a Lyapunov function decreases more rapidly. By including the additional nonlinear term to the linear sliding surface parameter matrix we obtain a nonlinear sliding surface such that the speed of responses is improved. We also give a switching feedback control law inducing a stable sliding motion in finite time. Finally, we give an LMI-based design algorithm, together with a design example.

  • Linear motor is easily affected by load disturbance, force ripple, friction, and parameter variations because there is no mechanical transmission to reduce the effects of model uncertainties and external disturbance. These nonlinear effects have been reduced for high-speed/high-accuracy position control either through the better motor design or via the better control algorithm that can compensate the nonlinear effects. In this paper, a nonlinear adaptive control algorithm is designed and applied for the position control of permanent magnet linear synchronous motor. In order to estimate and compensate the nonlinear effects such as friction and force ripple, the estimation and the nonlinear adaptive control laws are derived based on the virtual control input and a suitable Lyapunov function. The proposed controller is evaluated through the computer simulations. The control algorithm is also implemented to a DSP board and interfaced to the PMLSM for verifying the realtime control performance.

  • This paper deals with the attitude control of an underactuated spacecraft that has fewer than three actuators. Even though such spacecrafts are known as uncontrollable, restricted missions are possible with controlling two-axis attitude angles. A variable speed control moment gyroscope is considered as an actuator. It is a kind of momentum exchange device and it shows highly nonlinear dynamical properties. Speed commands are generated by kinematic equations represented by Euler angles. A control law, that is designed to make a spacecraft follow the speed commands, is derived by the backstepping method. Angular speeds are estimated from the attitude measurements. Several estimation methods have been compared.

  • Electromagnetic Suspension(EMS) System produces no noise, friction and heat through non-contacting operation Therefore, the applicable device using EMS system has a lot of attraction in case of the high-speed and non-contacting transmission EMS with nonlinear properties requires a precise airgap position control and stable kinematics characteristics under the disturbances, In this study, the nonlinear system was linearized by a Nonlinear Feedback Lineariztion(NFL) method. The NFL method requires that the modelling should be exact, and the state variables should be measured and a rapidly operating controller be necessary on account of a heavy data calculating In the experiments. the ideal control characteristics of the NFL was acquired through simulation at first. then the characteristics of the actual system were compared with those of simulation. In addition, the results by NFL were examined and analysed considering the characteristics of the PID control. The Control by NFL shows much stable control characteristics than the PID control. Whereas, the steady state errors occur for various disturbances. hence a robust control design is remained for a further study.

  • A nonlinear speed control for a permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motor using a simple disturbance estimation technique is presented. By using a feedback linearization, scheme, the nonlinear motor model can be linearized. To compensate an undesirable output performance under the mismatch of the system parameters and load conditions the controller parameters will be estimated by using a disturbance observer theory. Since only the two reduced-order observers are used for the parameter estimation, the observer designs are considerably simple and the computational load of the controller for parameter estimation is negligibly small. The proposed control scheme is implemented on a PM synchronous motor using DSP TMS320C31 and the effectiveness is verified through the comparative experiments.

  • The main objective of a torque controller below rated wind speed is to extract maximum power from the potential wind energy. To do this, the torque control method, which adjusts the torque magnitude and makes it proportional to the square of the generator speed, has been applied. However, this method makes the response slower as the wind turbines are getting larger in size with multi-MW capacities. In this paper, a torque control method that uses the nonlinear parameter of rotor speed for aerodynamic torque as a control gain is discussed to improve the response by adjusting an additional torque magnitude. The nonlinear parameter of the rotor speed could be calculated both online and offline. It is shown that the offline case is more practical and effective in producing power through the numerical simulation of a 2MW wind turbine by considering the real turbulence wind speed.

  • In this paper, a design method of speed and position estimator based on unscented Kalman filter is proposed for the no sensor control of IPMSM(Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor). The proposed method is simple more than the estimator designed with rotation axis for current measurement. Also the proposed state estimator is designed including nonlinear terms of the estimator. The controller which constructed using nonlinear back-stepping control method is operated speed and current control using the estimated speed and currents information. Through simulation, the performance of the designed estimator is compared to the estimator which is designed to synchronize d-q axis.

  • A nonlinear speed control for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) using a simple disturbance estimation technique is presented. By using a feedback linearization scheme, the nonlinear motor model can be linearized in a controllable canonical form, and the desired speed dynamics can be obtained based on the linearized model. This technique, however, gives an undesirable output performance under the mismatch of the system parameters and load conditions. To cancel disturbance by parameter variation, the controller parameters will be estimated by using a disturbance observer theory where the disturbance torque and flux linkage are estimated. since only the two reduced order observers are used for the parameter estimations, the observer designs are considerably simple and the additional load for computation of the controller is negligibly small. The proposed control scheme is implemented on a PMSM using DSP TMS320C31 and the effectiveness is verified through the comparative simulations and experiments.

  • In this paper a second-order iterative learning control algorithm with feedback is proposed for the trajectory-tracking control of nonlinear dynamic systems with unidentified parameters. In contrast to other known methods, the proposed teaming control scheme utilize more than one past error history contained in the trajectories generated at prior iterations, and a feedback term is added in the learning control scheme for the enhancement of convergence speed and robustness to disturbances or system parameter variations. The convergence proof of the proposed algorithm is given in detail, and the sufficient condition for the convergence of the algorithm is provided. We also discuss the convergence performance of the algorithm when the initial condition at the beginning of each iteration differs from the previous value of the initial condition. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is shown by computer simulation result. It is shown that, by adding a feedback term in teaming control algorithm, convergence speed, robustness to disturbances and robustness to unmatched initial conditions can be improved.

  • The conventional fixed gain PI controller is very sensitive to step change of command speed, parameter variation and load disturbances. The precise speed control of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) drive becomes a complex issue due to nonlinear coupling among its winding currents and the rotor speed as well as the nonlinear electromagnetic developed torque. Therefore, there exists a need to tune the PI controller parameters on-line to ensure optimum drive performance over a wide range of operating conditions. This paper is proposed artificial intelligent-PI(AIPI) controller of IPMSM drive using adaptive learning mechanism(ALM) and fuzzy neural network(FNN). The proposed controller is developed to ensure accurate speed control of IPMSM drive under system disturbances and estimation of speed using artificial neural network(ANN) controller. The PI controller parameters are optimized by ALM-FNN at all possible operating condition in a closed loop vector control scheme. The validity of the proposed controller is verified by results at different dynamic operating conditions.
