Size-dependent buckling behaviour of FG annular/circular thick nanoplates with porosities resting on Kerr foundation based on new hyperbolic shear deformation theory

  • This work treats the axisymmetric buckling of functionally graded (FG) porous annular/circular nanoplates based on modified couple stress theory (MCST). The nanoplate is located at the elastic medium which is simulated by Kerr foundation with two spring and one shear layer. The material properties of the porous FG nanostructure are assumed to vary through the nanoplate thickness based on power-law rule. Based on two variables refined plate theory, the governing equations are derived by utilizing Hamilton's principle. Applying generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM), the buckling load of the annular/circular nanoplates is obtained for different boundary conditions. The influences of different involved parameters such as boundary conditions, Kerr medium, material length scale parameter, geometrical parameters of the nanoplate, FG power index and porosity are demonstrated on the nonlinear buckling load of the annular/circular nanoplates. The results indicate that with increasing the porosity of the nanoplate, the nonlinear buckling load is decreased. In addition, with increasing the material length scale parameter to thickness ratio, the effect of spring constant of Kerr foundation on the buckling load becomes more prominent. The present results are compared with those available in the literature to validate the accuracy and reliability. A good agreement is observed between the two sets of the results.

Active Focusing of Light in Plasmonic Lens via Kerr Effect

  • We numerically demonstrate the performance of a plasmonic lens composed of an array of nanoslits perforated on thin metallic film with slanted cuts on the output surface. Embedding Kerr nonlinear material in nanoslits is employed to modulate the output beam. A two dimensional nonlinear-dispersive finite-difference time-domain (2D N-D-FDTD) method is utilized. The performance parameters of the proposed lens such as focal length, full-width half-maximum, depth of focus and the efficiency of focusing are investigated. The structure is illuminated by a TM-polarized plane wave and a Gaussian beam. The effect of the beam waist of the Gaussian beam and the incident light intensity on the focusing effect is explored. An exact formula is proposed to derive electric field E from electric flux density D in a Kerr-Dispersive medium. Surface plasmon (SPs) modes and Fabry-Perot (F-P) resonances are used to explain the physical origin of the light focusing phenomenon. Focused ion beam milling can be implemented to fabricate the proposed lens. It can find valuable potential applications in integrated optics and for tuning purposes.

  • Fabrication and electro-optic applications of glass optical fibers were reviewed. Theoretical description on the electro-optic Kerr effect in glass optical fibers, particularly for the second-order optical nonlinearity was given. Fabrication procedure and the characterization of the nonlinear electro-optic fibers with internal electrodes were described. Several electro-optic devices based on the polarimetric cells made by the nonlinear optical fibers with internal electrodes were also discussed with the experimental results on the electro-optic effect.

  • 색 분산과 비선형 Kerr 효과에 의한 신호 왜곡을 보상하는 광학 위상 공액과 결합된 분산 제어 링크에서 광섬유의 길이가 보상의 효율성을 결정하는 주요 요인이다. 분산 제어 링크는 표준 단일 모드 광섬유와 분산 보상 광섬유가 배열된 여러 개의 중계 구간으로 구성된다. 본 논문에서는 광 위상 공액기 (OPC; optical phase conjugator)를 중심으로 전반 링크와 후반 링크에서 각각 서로 다른 한 종류의 광섬유들의 길이 변화만으로 RDPS (residual dispersion per span)에 변화를 주는 링크에서의 보상 효과를 살펴보았다. 누적 분산 프로파일이 OPC를 중심으로 원점 대칭이 되면서 동시에 전반 링크에서는 누적 분산량은 모두 양으로, 반면 후반 링크에서는 누적 분산량은 모두 음으로 분포시키는 분산 제어 링크가 960 Gb/s 파장 분할 다중 신호에 대해 가장 우수한 보상이 얻어지는 것을 확인하였다.

Dispersion-managed Optical Link Configured Antipodalsymmetric Dispersion Maps with Respect to Midway Optical Phase Conjugator

  • We investigated the antipodal-symmetric dispersion maps of a dispersion-managed link with a midway optical phase conjugator to compensate for the distorted 960 Gb/s wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) signal caused by these effects. The proposed antipodal-symmetric dispersion map has various shapes depending on the detailed design scheme. We confirmed that the dispersion-managed link designed with the dispersion map of the antipodal-symmetric structure is more advantageous than the conventional uniform dispersion map for compensating WDM channels. It was also confirmed that among the antipodal-symmetric structures, the dispersion map configured with the S-1-profile, in which S is inverted up and down, was more effective for distortion compensation than the dispersion map configured with the S-profile. In particular, we confirmed that the S-1-profile can broaden the optical pulse width intensively at a short transmission distance, more effectively compensating for the distorted WDM channel. Because this structure makes the intensity of the optical pulse relatively weak, it can decrease the nonlinear Kerr effect.

  • Nonlinear optical properties of an unsaturated polymer (poly trifluroethy dipropargy malonate) are investigated by using a passive Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. Double-peaked structure of phase conjugate signals due to the two-photon-absorption induced thermal effect is clearly is clearly observed and a simple method to remove the thermal effect from the overall phase-conjugate signals is demonstrated.

  • 비선형 Kerr 매질을 통과하는 Gaussian 빔에 대해 aberration-free approximation과 Huygens-Fresnel 회절 이론을 적용하여 Z-scan 투과율에 대한 해석해를 유도하였다. 비정질 $As_2S_3$ 박막에 대해 Z-scan 실험을 수행하였으며 이론과 비교하여 잘 일치함을 알았다. 633nm 파장에서 측정된 비선형 굴절률${\gamma}$의 크기와 기호 $+8.65{\times}10^{-6}\textrm{cm}^2/W$이며, 또한 먼 영역(far-field)에서 빔 세기분포를 측정하여 자기 집광(self-focusing)효과를 가시적으로 확인하였다.

원점 대칭 분산 맵과 OPC를 가진 광전송 링크 (Optical Transmission Link with Dispersion Map of Antipodal Symmetry and OPC)

  • 단일 모드 광섬유의 본질적인 색 분산과 비선형 Kerr 효과에 의해 왜곡되는 파장 분할 다중 신호의 보상을 위한 광 위상 공액기를 갖는 분산 제어 링크에서의 보상 효과 제고를 위한 원점 대칭 구조의 분산 맵을 제안하였다. 제안된 모든 형태의 원점 대칭 분산맵을 갖는 분산 제어 링크는 전통적인 균일 구조의 분산 제어 링크에 비해 파장 분할 다중 채널의 왜곡 보상에 효과적이라는 것을 확인하였다. 특히 알파벳 S자 형태의 분산 맵보다 알파벳 S자를 상하 반전시킨 형태인 분산 맵의 구조를 다양한 형태로 변형시켜도 왜곡 보상에 유리하다는 것을 확인하였다. 제안된 원점 대칭 구조의 분산 맵을 전송 링크에 적용하면 광 네트워크의 토폴로지를 보다 다양하게 구성할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Dispersion-Managed Link Configured with Repetitively Shaped Dispersion Maps and Embedded with Mid-span Spectral Inversion

  • A dispersion map was proposed to improve the compensation effect of a distorted WDM (wavelength division multiplexed) channel in a dispersion-managed link coupled with optical phase conjugation. The dispersion map is an origin-symmetric structure around the optical phase conjugator in the middle of the transmission path. In addition, the dispersion map has a form in which a constant dispersion accumulation pattern is repeated regularly. Through simulation, we confirmed that the application of the origin-symmetric dispersion map with a repetitively shaped configuration was more effective in compensating for the distorted WDM channel than in the dispersion-managed link with a conventional dispersion map. In addition, we confirmed that the compensation effect could be increased when the cumulative dispersion distribution of the origin-symmetric distribution map had a positive value in the first half section and a negative value in the second half section. Further, we observed that as the number of repeated dispersion accumulation patterns increased, the residual dispersion per span should also be increased.

주기적 구조의 분산 맵과 Non-midway 광 위상 공액기에 의한 왜곡된 WDM 신호의 보상 (Compensation for Distorted WDM Signals by Periodic-shaped Dispersion Map and Non-midway Optical Phase Conjugator)

  • 초광대역 장거리 전송 링크를 구현하기 위해서는 색 분산과 비선형 Kerr 현상에 의한 광 신호 왜곡을 보상해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 왜곡된 파장 분할 다중 채널을 보상하기 위한 분산 제어와 광 위상 공액을 결합한 링크를 제안하였다. 제안하는 분산 제어 링크에서의 분산 맵 프로파일은 일정한 주기로 반복하는 형태이고, 이러한 분산 제어 링크에서 광 위상 공액기는 전체 전송로 중간뿐만 아니라 여러 다양한 곳에 위치시켰다. 시뮬레이션 결과 제안하는 분산 제어 링크에서 중계 구간의 잉여 분산 (RDPS; residual dispersion per span)을 비교적 큰 값으로 선택하면 광 위상 공액기가 전체 전송로 중간이 아닌 non-midway OPC 시스템에서 왜곡된 파장 분할 다중 채널의 보상을 전통적인 구조의 분산 제어 링크에서 보다 개선시킬 수 있는 것을 확인하였다.
