An Analysis of Driving Property of a Reflective Electronic Display Fabricated by Using Filtering Method of Non-moving Particles

  • The driving properties of a particle-insertion method that filters non-moving particles are analyzed, by measuring its optical and electrical properties. An area that is occupied by the moved particles is proposed, as a desirable evaluation method for a reflective display. To compare the driving property of the particle-moving method with that of the reported simple particle-loading method, two panels are fabricated, according to the different particle-insertion methods, in the same panel condition, of which the width of ribs is $30{\mu}m$, the cell size is $220{\mu}m{\times}220{\mu}m$, the cell gap is $116-120{\mu}m$, the q/m value of the black particles is $+1.8{\mu}C/g$ and that for the white particles is $-4.3{\mu}C/g$. The particle-moving method has a filtering effect which excludes the non-moving particles, inserting only movable particles into the respective cell, so that a panel fabricated by the particle-moving method can drive most of the particles in a cell. Also, most of the particles move at the threshold voltage of 40 V, with enhanced reflectivity. The driving property is also verified by measurement of the occupation rate of the moved particles.

  • Video based object tracking normally deals with non-stationary image streams that change over time. Robust and real time moving object tracking is considered to be a problematic issue in computer vision. Multiple object tracking has many practical applications in scene analysis for automated surveillance. In this paper, we introduce a specified object tracking based particle filter used in an environment of multiple moving objects. A differential image region based tracking method for the detection of multiple moving objects is used. In order to ensure accurate object detection in an unconstrained environment, a background image update method is used. In addition, there exist problems in tracking a particular object through a video sequence, which cannot rely only on image processing techniques. For this, a probabilistic framework is used. Our proposed particle filter has been proved to be robust in dealing with nonlinear and non-Gaussian problems. The particle filter provides a robust object tracking framework under ambiguity conditions and greatly improves the estimation accuracy for complicated tracking problems.

  • A particle method, recognized as one of gridless methods, has been developed to investigate non-linear free-surface motions interacting with structures. This method is more feasible and effective than conventional grid methods for solving flow fieldswith complicated boundary shapes. The method consists of particle interaction models representing pressure gradient, diffusion, incompressibility, and the free-surface boundary conditions without grids. In the present study, broken dam problems with various viscosity values are simulated to validate the developed method.

The right-handed side of the governing equations for incompressible fluid, which includes gradient, viscous and external force terms, can be replaced by the particle interaction models. In the present study, the developed method is applied to the dam-broken problem on dried- and wet-floor and its adequacy will be discussed by the comparison with the experimental results.

  • We present a robust localization algorithm using particle filter for mobile robots in a dynamic environment. It is difficult to describe moving obstacles like people or other robots on the map and the environment is changed after mapping. A mobile robot cannot estimate its pose robustly with this incomplete map because sensor observations are corrupted by un-modeled obstacles. The proposed algorithms provide robustness in such a dynamic environment by suppressing the effect of corrupted sensor observations with a selective update or a sampling from non-corrupted window. A selective update method makes some particles keep track of the robot, not affected by the corrupted observation. In a sampling from non-corrupted window method, particles are always sampled from several particle sets which use only non-corrupted observation. The robustness of proposed algorithm is validated with experiments and simulations.

  • The impact of a single wave generated by a dam break with a tall structure is modeled with a three-dimensional version of the Moving particle semi-implicit (MPS) method. The particle method is more feasible and effective than methods based on grid connection problems involving violent free surface motions. In the present study, the Tsunami impact load and the change of longitudinal velocity component around the structure, which are obtained from the numerical simulation, are compared to those from experiments.

낮은 프레임률 영상에서 파티클 필터의 추적 성능 개선 (Improvement of Tracking Performance of Particle Filter in Low Frame Rate Video)

  • 파티클 필터는 비선형 비가우시안 추정 문제에 매우 효과적인 수단으로 비디오 영상에서 객체를 추적하는 경우에 널리 이용되어왔다. 하지만 객체의 이동이 심한 경우 객체의 추적을 위해서는 매우 많은 개수의 파티클이 있어야 하므로 계산량이 크게 증가하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 프레임간의 객체 이동이 상당히 크게 이루어지는 low frame rate(LPR) 비디오에서 차량의 추적을 위하여 모션 벡터를 이용한 개선된 파티클 필터 추적 방법을 제안하고 실험을 통하여 성능을 평가하였다. 제안한 파티클 필터에서는 selection 단계와 observe 단계의 두 단계에서 모션 벡터를 적용하였다. 실험 결과 제안한 방법은 LPR 영상에서 기존의 파티클 필터가 객체의 추적에 실패하는 경우에도 성공적 추적이 가능하며, 추적의 정확도 또한 향상되었음을 보여주었다.

  • 하나의 시스템 내에 2개 이상의 상이 다른 유체가 존재할 시에는 다상유동에 의한 복장성이 존재하며, 이는 해석의 어려움이 따른다. 두 개 이상의 상이 다른 다상유동은 유동 및 경계면에 영향을 끼치지 때문에, 불안정성과 같은 비선형 유동이 나타나게 된다. 여러 종류의 불안정성 중 레일리히-테일러 불안정성은 대표적인 예로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 밀도차가 레일리히-테일러 불안정성에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위해 다양한 Atwood 수를 선정하였으며, 초기 경계면 형상 역시 다양한 형태를 설정하고 시뮬레이션 하였다. 본 연구에서 사용된 입자법인 MPS(Moving particle simulation)은 이러한 다상유동에서 널리 쓰이지는 않았으나, 다상유동을 위한 입자간 상호 연성 모델인 자가-부력 항, 표면 장력 항과 경계면 경계 조건 항을 추가로 사용하여 수치해석이 가능하게 하였다. 본 연구에서 새로이 개발된 다상유동형 입자법을 이용하여 고려된 경우들에 대해 수치해석을 수행하였으며, 각각의 결과들을 비교 분석하였다. 또한 레일리히-테일러 불안정성에 기인한 유동의 속도를 측정하여 포텐셜 기반의 이론값과의 비교를 통해 경향성이 일치함을 알 수 있었다. 이론값과의 크기의 차는 포텐셜 기반의 이론값에서는 고려가 힘든 비선형성에 기인한다고 사료된다.

Coupling Particles Swarm Optimization for Multimodal Electromagnetic Problems

  • This paper proposes a novel multimodal optimization method, Coupling particles swarm optimization (PSO), to find all optima in design space. This method based on the conventional Particle Swarm Optimization with modifications. The Coupling method is applied to make a couple from main particle and then each couple of particles searches its own optimum by using non-stop-moving PSO. We tested out our method and other one, such as ClusteringParticle Swarm Optimization and Niche Particle Swarm Optimization, on three analytic functions. The Coupling Particle Swarm Optimization is also applied to solve a significant benchmark problem, the TEAM workshop benchmark problem 22
