  • The response statistics of a hinged-clamped beam under broad-band random excitation is investigated. The random excitation is applied at the nodal point of the second mode. By using Galerkin's method the governing equation is reduced to a system of nonautonomous nonlinear ordinary differential equations. A method based upon the Markov vector approach is used to generate a general first-order differential equation in the dynamic moment of response coordinates. By means of the Gaussian and non-Gaussian closure methods the dynamic moment equations for the random responses of the system are reduced to a system of autonomous ordinary differential equations. The case of two mode interaction is considered in order to compare it with the case of three mode interaction. The analytical results for two and three mode interactions are also compared with results obtained by Monte Carlo simulation.

  • The process of solidification of metal is accompanied by liquid-solid change and known as Stefan's heat conduction problem on the moving boundary. In this study the temperature distribution in ingot and metallic mould during casting was analyzed by the two dimensional heat conduction theory. The transient temperature distribution was numerically calculated using a finite element method on the nodal point of mesh screen representing ingot and mould cross section. The theory was applied on the casting of aluminum(purity ; 99%) in flat ingot mould of GC25. The analysis will make it possible to calculate an optimum mould shape of which temperature gradient becomes minimum.

  • For CSLDV, the Chebyshev demodulation (or polynomial) technique and Hilbert transform approach have been used for mode shape reconstruction with harmonic excitation. In this paper, the Hilbert-Huang transform approach was applied as an alternative to impact excitation cases in terms of a numerical approach. The vibration of the tested structure is modeled using impulse response functions. In order to verify this technique, a simply supported beam was chosen as the test rig. With additional innovative steps which are the ideal-band pass filter and the nodal point determination, Hilbert-Huang transformation can be used for a good mode shape reconstruction even in the impact excitation case.

  • In single-layer latticed domes with two-way grid, if we use the cross-membered junction's method for the advantage in fabrication and construction, the eccentricity is occurred in the nodal point of crossing members. This paper is aimed at investigating the buckling characteristics for the effect of eccentricity. Analysis method is based on FEM dealing with the geometically nonlinear deflection problems. As a result of the study, in the case of having eccentricity, the values of buckling strength are about 0.7 times than or not but the characteristics of buckling and deflection except buckling strength have a similar tendency each other.

  • A moment-curvature relationship to simulate the behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) columns under cyclic loading is introduced. Unlike previous moment4curvature models and the layered section approach, the proposed model takes into account the bond-slip effect by using a monotonic moment-curvature relationship constructed on the basis of the bond-slip relation and corresponding equilibrium equation at each nodal point. In addition, the use of curved unloading and reloading branches inferred from the stress-strain relation of steel gives more exact numerical result. The pinching effect caused by axial force is considered with an assumption that the absorbing energy corresponding to any deformation level maintains constant regardless of the magnitude of applied axial lone. The advantages of the proposed model, comparing to layered section approach, may be on the reduction in calculation time and memory space in case of its application to large structures. Finally, correlation studies between analytical result and experimental studies are conducted to establish the validity of the proposed model.

  • A computer program, MSSLL, was developed for the analysis of the "Multiple Shell Subjected to Lateral Loads" by utilizing 2-dimensional finite elements in a 3-dimensional global assemblage with 6 DOF at each nodal point. In this program, substructuring procedure with frontal solver was introduced in the solution procedure to save both human and computer resource when the whole structure consists of repeated identical substructures. Some of the results obtained by MSSLL were compared with the existing solutions by other methods. The effect of rise to span-length ratio was investigated for the behavior of the multiple conical shell with 8 substructures subjected to seismic loads by performing a parametric study.

  • The finite element analysis of metal forming processes often fails because of severe mesh distortion at large deformation. As the concept of meshless methods, only nodal point data are used for modeling and solving. As the main feature of these methods, the domain of the problem is represented by a set of nodes, and a finite element mesh is unnecessary. This computational methods reduces time-consuming model generation and refinement effort. It provides a higher rate of convergence than the conventional finite element methods. The displacement shape functions are constructed by the reproducing kernel approximation that satisfies consistency conditions. In this research, A meshless method approach based on the reproducing kernel particle method (RKPM) is applied with metal forming analysis. Numerical examples are analyzed to verify the performance of meshless method for metal forming analysis.

  • Praseodymium-based ZnO varistor containing 2.0mol% and 4.0mol% $Y_2$O$_3$ were fabricated, respectively and its microstructure and electrical properties were investigated. Yttrium distributed nearly in the grain boundaries and cluster phase at nodal point but more in cluster phase. The average grain size of the 2.0%mol% and 4.0mol% $Y_2$O$_3$-added samples was 14.8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 8.6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, respectively. Compared to 2.0mol% $Y_2$O$_3$, 4.0mol% $Y_2$O$_3$-added varistors showed very good I-V characteristics exhibiting highly nonlinear exponent(87.4) and low leakage current(46.7nA). These results are the important experimental fact in this paper.
