The Ni-SiC composite plating was performed in a Watt nickel solution and the wear resistance of the composite layer was studied on a pin-on-flat type wear tester. The volume losses and friction coefficients were measured. It was found that the quantity of SiC powder in the composite layers was affected by SiC concentration, pH, temperature, and agitation speed in the Watt nickel solution. The hardness and wear resistance of the coatings increased with SiC content. The quantity of SiC powder in the coating from a nickel sulfamate solution is larger than that of the Watt nickel solution, because the amount of nickel ions absorbed on the SiC powder in the nickel sulfamate solution is greater than that in the Watt's solution.
In this work, a nickel metal (Ni) electroplating on the activated carbon fiber (Ni/ACFs) surfaces was carried out to remove the toxic hydrogen chloride (HCl) gas. The surface properties of the treated ACFs were determined by using nitrogen adsorption isotherms at 77 K, SEM, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements. HCl removal efficiency was confirmed by a gas-detecting tube technique. As a result, the nickel metal contents on the ACF surfaces were increased with increasing the plating time. And, it was found that the specific surface area or the micropore volume of the ACFs studied was slightly decreased as increasing the plating time. Whereas, it was revealed that the HCl removal efficiency containing nickel metal showed higher efficiency values than that of untreated ACFs. These results indicated that the presence of nickel metal on the ACF surfaces played an important role in improving the HCl removal over the Ni/ACFs, due to the catalytic reactions between nickel and chlorine.
A study on thc recovcry oi nickel from waste pickling solutions removed li-ee nil~ica cid and hydmflnoric acid is carried out with pulsed column extractor for thc industrial application. The ~esults show that thc Iron and chromium arc efteclively elunmatcd from the waste solution by precipitalion as the form of hydraxidc with thc adjustment of pH with CaCO;, whlle the nickel is not prcc~pitatcd. Thc cxlraction eficicncy ol nickel with column cxtraclor generally improves 8s the pulse velosity (product of amplmde and frequency) incrcascs, optimum pcrfarmancc typically occuring slightly below an amplihldefrecluency product which results in flooding the column because of excessive emulsiIicalian And the nickel loaded in the organic is erfeclively conce~~trtratebdy ZM H2S0,, ~ I It he stlipping stage. The solubility of NiSO, in the H,SO, solution dccreaaes w~th thc higher H,SO, concentralion and appears to be 55 grL in the 2M HSO* solulian.
Nickel fine powders were prepared from aqueous nickel chloride solution containing organic solvents and the effect of the addition of the organic solvent on the formation of nickel powders were investigated. All products were spherical particles in the range of 0.1∼1.0 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and the agglomeration of particles did not appear. In case of containing 40 vol% of 1-propanol, the particle size reduction and homogeneity of the powders were remarkable. The average particle size and the specific surface area of the powders produced with 40 vol% of 1-propanol were 0.3 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and 16.4 m$^2$/g respectively. The reduction reaction time by hydrazine decreased with increasing of the content of 1-propanol, and was 5 min for 40 vol% of 1-propanol. The oxidation of synthesized nickel powders occurred at 320$^{\circ}C$ and weight loss at 300$^{\circ}C$ was due to dehydration of Ni(OH)$_2$.
Nickel ferrite $(Ni_{0.75}Fe_{2.25}O_4$ was synthesized by co-precipitation method in order to investigate its behavior under conditions of the reactor coolant system in pressurized light water nuclear power plants. Ammonia or potassium carbonate was used as a solution pH control agent, and aqueous ammonia or potassium carbonate solution or secondary distilled water was used as a co-precipitate washing agent. The effects of the pH control agent and the co-precipitate washing agent on the production yield on the basis of the Ni/Fe molar ratio and the particle characteristics of final products were investigated by XRD, SEM, EDX and XPS. The production yield was almost congruent with that of the initial aqueous mixture in case of using potassium carbonate as a pH control agent, while in case of using ammonia, it was quite changed. The difference seemed to be due to the effects of $Ni^{2+}{\leftarrow}NH_3$complexation in the aqueous solution and of the pH of co-precipitate washing agent.

A dense palladium-nikel (Pd-Ni) alloy composite membrane has been fabricated on microporous nickel support mixed with submicron/micron nickel powder instead of mesoporous stainless steel support. Plasma treatment process is introduced as pre-treatment process instead of HCI activation. Pd-Ni alloy composite membrane prepared by electro plating was fairly a uniform and dense surface morphology. The membrane was characterized by permeation experiments with hydrogen and nitrogen gases at temperature 773 K and pressure 2.2 psi. The results showed that hydrogen ($H_2$) permeance was 27 ml/$\textrm{cm}^2$ㆍatmㆍmin and hydrogen/ nitrogen ($_H2$$N_2$) selectivity was 8 at 773 K.

Lithiated cobalt and nickel oxides are becoming very attractive as active cathode materials for secondary lithium ion secondary battery. $LiCoO_2$ is easily synthesized from lithium cobalt salts, but has a relatively high oxidizing potential on charge. LiNiOz is synthesized by a more complex procedure and its nonstoichiometry significantly degraded the charge-discharge characteristics. But $LiNiO_2$ has a lower charge potential which increases the system stability. Lithiated cobalt and nickel oxides are iso-structure which make the preparation of solid solutions of $LiNi_{1-x}Co_xO_2$ for O$LiCoO_2 and LiNiO_2$ electrode. The aim of the presentb paper is to study the electrochemical behaviour, as weU as the possibilities for practical application of layered Iithiated nickel oxide stabilized by $Co^{3+}$ substitution as active cathode materials in lithium ion secondary battery.

The pseudocapacitor has a high energy density characteristic because it accumulates charges through a paradic redox reaction. However, due to its strong insulation properties, metal hydroxides should be designed as structural systems optimized for charge transfer to support fast electron transport. Also, Nickel material is weak to heat and is easily deformed when used as a cathode material, so stability must be secured. In this study, nickel hydroxide was produced by electrodeposition to secure the stability of nickel. Electrodeposition is a synthetic method suitable for growing optimized nickel hydroxide because it allows fine control. Nickel hydroxide (Ni(OH)2) is a metal hydroxide used as a pseudocapacitor anode due to its high capacitance, electrical conductivity and resistance. Therefore, in order to determine how Ni(OH)2 nanosheets are formed and what are the optimization conditions, various measurement methods were used to focus on structural growth of nanosheets produced by electrodeposition.
Thermal evaporated 10 nm-$Ni_{50}Co_{50}$/(70 nm-poly)Si films were deposited to examine the energy saving properties of silicides formed by rapid thermal annealing at temperature ranging from 500 to $1,100^{\circ}C$ for 40 seconds. Thermal evaporated 10 nm-Ni/(70 nm-poly)Si films were also deposited as a reference using the same method for depositing the 10 nm-$Ni_{50}Co_{50}$/(70 nm-poly)Si films. A four-point probe was used to examine the sheet resistance. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction XRD were used to determine cross sectional microstructure and phase changes, respectively. UV-VIS-NIR and FT-IR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) were used to examine the near-infrared (NIR) and middle-infrared (MIR) absorbance. TEM analysis confirmed that the uniform nickel-cobalt composite silicide layers approximately 21 to 55 nm in thickness had formed on the single and polycrystalline silicon substrates as well as on the 25 to 100 nm thick nickel silicide layers. In particular, nickel-cobalt composite silicides showed a low sheet resistance, even after rapid annealing at $1,100^{\circ}C$. Nickel-cobalt composite silicide and nickel silicide films on the single silicon substrates showed similar absorbance in the near-IR region, while those on the polycrystalline silicon substrates showed excellent absorbance until the 1,750 nm region. Silicides on polycrystalline substrates showed high absorbance in the middle IR region. Nickel-cobalt composite silicides on the poly-Si substrates annealed at $1,000^{\circ}C$ superior IR absorption on both NIR and MIR region. These results suggest that the newly proposed $Ni_{50}Co_{50}$ composite silicides may be suitable for applications of IR absorption coatings.
