  • High strength steels such as transformation induced plastic steel, dual phase and solid solution Hardening have been developed and continuously improved due to the intensified needs in the automotive industry. But silicon and manganese in transformation induced plastic steels were known to exhibit harmful effects on galvannealing reaction by oxide film formed during heat treatment. Therefore, in this work, the applicability of Zn-Ni electrodeposition instead of hot dip galvannealed coating to transformation induced plastic steels was evaluated and optimum electroplating condition was investigated. Based on these investigations optimized electroplating conditions were proposed and Zn-Ni electrogalvanized steel sheet was produced by EGL (electrogalvanized line). Its perfomance properties for automotive steel was evaluated.

도재-금속보철물용(陶材-金屬補綴勿用) Ni-Cr계(系) 비귀금속합금(非貴金屬合金)의 주조성(鑄造性)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (A Study of castability of Nickel-Chromium Alloys for porcelain fused to meta system)

  • This study investigated the effect of burnout temperature on the castability of some nickelchromium alloys for porcelain fused to metal system and the effect of beryllium on the castability. Four alloys were evaluated: two contained beryllium(rexillium III, Super I) and two nonberyllium(Unibond, NNB). five burnout temperature, ranging form 100$^{\circ}F$ to 1800$^{\circ}F$, were aet at 200$^{\circ}F$ intervals for this study. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Beryllium-containing alloys were more castable than nonberyllium-containing alloys. 2. There was an optimal burnout temperature of range from 1400$^{\circ}F$ to 1600$^{\circ}F$ for the berylliumcontaining alloys studied. 3. An optimal burnout temperature for the nonberyllium alloys was not established.

Distinct properties of tungsten austenitic stainless alloy as a potential nuclear engineering material

  • In the present study, a series of tungsten austenitic stainless steel alloys have been developed by interchanging the molybdenum in standard SS316 by tungsten. This was done to minimize the long-life residual activation occurred in molybdenum and nickel after decommissioning of the power plant. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the prepared alloys are determined. For the sake of increasing multifunction property of such series of tungsten-based austenitic stainless steel alloys, gamma shielding properties were studied experimentally by means of NaI(Tl) detector and theoretically calculated by using the XCOM program. Moreover, fast neutrons macroscopic removal cross-section been calculated. The obtained combined mechanical, structural and shielding properties indicated that the modified austenitic stainless steel sample containing 1.79% tungsten and 0.64% molybdenum has preferable properties among all other investigated samples in comparison with the standard SS316. These properties nominate this new composition in several nuclear application domains such as, nuclear shielding domain.

Inverted structure perovskite solar cells: A theoretical study

  • We analysed perovskite $CH_3NH_3PbI_{3-x}Cl_x$ inverted planer structure solar cell with nickel oxide (NiO) and spiroMeOTAD as hole conductors. This structure is free from electron transport layer. The thickness is optimized for NiO and spiro-MeOTAD hole conducting materials and the devices do not exhibit any significant variation for both hole transport materials. The back metal contact work function is varied for NiO hole conductor and observed that Ni and Co metals may be suitable back contacts for efficient carrier dynamics. The solar photovoltaic response showed a linear decrease in efficiency with increasing temperature. The electron affinity and band gap of transparent conducting oxide and NiO layers are varied to understand their impact on conduction and valence band offsets. A range of suitable band gap and electron affinity values are found essential for efficient device performance.

  • Diamoncl/Mo/Ni multi-layers on SKH-51 steel substrate was prepared to improve the abrasive wear resistance of a tool and die by a commercial chemical vapor deposition unit and electro-plating. The diamond after 7 hour deposition had cuba-octahedral structure with 2~5$\mu\textrm{m}$ grains. The existence of non-ferrous metals such as chromium, nickel and molybdenum between diamond and SKH-51 substrate results in forming higher quality of diamond layer by retarding carbon diffusion in the diamond layer during deposition, and also improving hardness and wear resistance. Surface cracks on the film was sometimes observed by the difference of by the thermal expansion coefficients between the steel substrate and the deposited layers during cooling.

화학I 교과서에 나타난 중금속 용어와 개념의 고찰 (Studies of the Concept and Terminology of Heavy Metals Described in the Chemistry I Textbook)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 한국 중등학교 과학 교과서에 기술된 화학적으로 불분명한 ‘중금속' 용어에 대해 정의, 종류 및 의미의 항목으로 알아보았다. 예비 결과에 의하면 교과서중에서 ‘화학 I' 교과서 8종 중 6종에 서 비중을 근거로 중금속을 정의하고 있으며 또 인체에 유해하고 지속적으로 축적되는 금속으로 묘사하고 있 다. 특히 8종의 모든 교과서에서 중금속의 예로 카드뮴, 납 그리고 수은을 제시하고 있으나 비소와 같은 비금 속이나 크롬, 망간, 철, 코발트, 니켈 그리고 구리 같은 인체 필수 미량 금속도 들어 있었다. 금속의 독작용을 이해함에 있어서 금속의 산화상태, 생체 내 존재량, 생체 성분과의 반응성을 고려해야 하지만 교과서에서 이에 대한 단편적인 예만 제시하고 있었다. 화학적으로 정의되지 못한 용어는 학생들로 하여금 중금속은 독소와 동 일할 수 있다는 대안 개념을 유발시킬 수 있으므로 이러한 모호한 정의와 설명은 교과서에서 지양되어야 한다.

Hydro/solvothermal synthesis, crystal structure, and thermal behaviour of piperazine-templated nickel(II) and cobalt(II) sulfates

  • Two piperazine-templated metal sulfate complexes, $(C_4N_2H_{12})[Ni(H_2O)_6](SO_4)_2$, I and ($C_4N_2H_{12}$) $[Co(H_2O)_6](SO_4)_2$, II, have been synthesized by hydro/solvothermal reactions and their crystal structures analyzed by single crystal X-ray diffraction methods. Complex I crystallizes in the monoclinic system, $P2_1/n$ space group, a=12.920(3), b=10.616(2), $c=13.303(2){\AA}$, ${\beta}=114.09(1)^{\circ}$, Z=4, $R_1=0.030$ for 3683 reflections; II: monoclinic $P2_1/n$, a=12.906(3), b=10.711(2), $c=13.303(2){\AA}$, ${\beta}=114.10(2)^{\circ}$, Z=4, $R_1=0.032$ for 4010 reflections. The crystal structures of the piperazine-templated metal(II) sulfates demonstrate zero-dimensional compound constituted by diprotonated piperazine cations, metal(II) cations and sulfate anions. The structures of complex I and II are substantially isostructural to that of the previously reported our piperazine-templated copper(II) sulfate complex $(C_4N_2H_{12})[Cu(H_2O)_6](SO_4)_2$. The central metal(II) atoms are coordinated by six water molecules in the octahedral geometry. The crystal structures are stabilized by three-dimensional networks of the $O_{water}-H{\cdots}O_{sulfate}$ and $N_{pip}-H{\cdots}O_{sulfate}$ hydrogen bonds between the water molecules and sulfate anions and protonated piperazine cations. Based on the results of thermal analysis, the thermal decomposition reactions of the complex I was analyzed to have three distinctive stages whereas the complex II proceed through several stages.

Comparison of apical extrusion of intracanal bacteria by various glide-path establishing systems: an in vitro study

  • Objectives: This study compared the amount of apically extruded bacteria during the glide-path preparation by using multi-file and single-file glide-path establishing nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary systems. Materials and Methods: Sixty mandibular first molar teeth were used to prepare the test apparatus. They were decoronated, blocked into glass vials, sterilized in ethylene oxide gas, infected with a pure culture of Enterococcus faecalis, randomly assigned to 5 experimental groups, and then prepared using manual stainless-steel files (group KF) and glide-path establishing NiTi rotary files (group PF with PathFiles, group GF with G-Files, group PG with ProGlider, and group OG with One G). At the end of canal preparation, 0.01 mL NaCl solution was taken from the experimental vials. The suspension was plated on brain heart infusion agar and colonies of bacteria were counted, and the results were given as number of colony-forming units (CFU). Results: The manual instrumentation technique tested in group KF extruded the highest number of bacteria compared to the other 4 groups (p < 0.05). The 4 groups using rotary glide-path establishing instruments extruded similar amounts of bacteria. Conclusions: All glide-path establishment instrument systems tested caused a measurable apical extrusion of bacteria. The manual glide-path preparation showed the highest number of bacteria extruded compared to the other NiTi glide-path establishing instruments.

고속전단시험의 표준화를 위한 Sn3.0Ag0.5Cu 솔더볼의 전단특성 (Shearing Characteristics of Sn3.0AgO.5Cu Solder Ball for Standardization of High Speed Shear Test)

  • 고속전단시힘의 표준화를 위한 기초 연구의 일부로 Sn-3.0wt%Ag-0.5wt%Cu 솔더 볼의 고속전단특성에 대한 연구를 수행 하였다. 고속전단 시험편 제작을 위해 직경 450 ${\mu}m$의 솔더 볼을 FR4 PCB (Printed Circuit Board) 위에 장착한 후 $245^{\circ}C$ 온도에서 리플로 솔더링을 행하였다. PCB 상의 금속 패드로는 ENIG (Electroless Nickel/mmersion Gold, i.e Cu/Ni/Au)와 OSP (Organic Solderability Preservative, Cu 패드)를 사용하였다. 고속전단 속도는 0.5~3.0 m/s 범위, 전단 팁의 높이는 10~135 ${\mu}m$ 범위에서 변화시켰다. 실험결과로서, OSP 패드의 경우 전단 팁 높이 증가에 따라 연성 파괴가 증가하였으며, 전단속도 증가에 따라 연성파괴는 감소되었다. ENIG 패드의 경우에도 전단 팁 높이 증가에 따라 연성 파괴가 증가하였다. 전단 팁 높이 10 ${\mu}m$(볼 직경의 2%)는 패드 박리 파괴가 대부분이어서 전단파면 관찰에는 부적절한 높이였다. 고속전단에너지는 OSP 및 ENIG 패드 모두 전단 팁 높이 증가에 따라 증가하는 경향을 보였다.

무에서 니켈 독성검정을 위한 생육 및 생리반응 비교 -I. 무의 생육 및 니켈 흡수이행- (Comparison of Growth and Physiological Responses in Radish for Assay of Nickel Toxicity -I. Growth of Radish and Absorption and Translocation of Nikel-)

  • 니켈 독성의 생물검정에 있어서 지표식물로서 무를 이용하였고 토양중 니켈의 농도, 토양 pH, 공존 이온의 첨가, 복토, 유기물, 석회처리의 요인을 변수로 하여 무의 생육 상태 및 니켈의 흡수축적량 차이를 비교하였다. 무종자의 발아율은 대조구에 비하여 니켈 처리농도 150 mg/kg에서 40%의 낮은 발아율을 나타내었다. 토양 중에 처리된 니켈 농도가 증가할수록 무의 초장, 근장, 건물량이 감소하는 경향이었으며, 니켈 처리농도 100 mg/kg에서 약 65%의 생육저해를 보였으며 150 mg/kg부터는 무의 정상적인 생육이 불가능하였다. 토양 pH가 증가함에 따라 무로 흡수 이행되는 니켈의 함량이 감소하는 역의 상관을 나타내었다. 토양에 니켈을 50 mg/kg으로 처리한 후 Fe의 농도를 10, 50, 100 mg/kg으로 증가시켰을 때 무로 이행되는 니켈의 흡수축적량간에 유의성이 인정되지 않았다(p>0.1). 토양에 니켈을 50mg/kg으로 처리한 후 Zn의 농도를 10, 50, 100mg/kg으로 증가시켰을 때 무로 흡수 이행되는 니켈의 흡수축적량간에 유의성이 인정되었다(줄기, 뿌리 p<0.05). 복토, 유기물과 석회처리시 모두 대조구에 비하여 니켈 흡수축적량이 감소하는 경향이었다(p<0.01). 각 처리구간의 니켈 흡수축적량 차이는 인정할 수 없었으나(줄기, 뿌리 p>0.5), 유기물>복토>석회처리의 순서대로 니켈 흡수량 감소의 효과가 나타났다.
