Variation of GMR Properties with Ar Pressure and Co Interlayer Thickness in Ta/NiFe/Co/Cu/Co/NiFe/FeMn Spin Valve Structures (Ta/NiFe/Co/Cu/Co/NiFe/FeMn 스핀밸브구조에서 Ar 압력과 Co 사이층 두께에 따른 GMR 특성 변화)

  • We have studied changes of coercivity $(H_c)$, exchange anisotropy field $(H_{ex})$ and MR ration in glass/Ta/NiFeI/CoI(t)/Cu/CoII(3/4 t)/NiFeII/FeMn spin valve structures by changing Ar pressure and thicknesses of Co layers using DC, RF sputtering methods. We obtained minimum coercivity of 2.8 Oe at 4 mTorr of Ar pressure, exchange anisotropy field of 50.0 Oe at 6 mTorr and 5.3 % of MR ratio at 10 mTorr. Also, we obtained 3.0 Oe of coercivity at 40 $\AA$ of CoI layer, 65.9 Oe at 13 $\AA$ and 4.7 % of MR ratio at 27 $\AA$ and 34 $\AA$ by changing the thicknesses of Co layers.

The Characteristics of Hydrogen Permeation through Pd-coated $Nb_{56}Ti_{23}Ni_{21}$ Alloy Membranes (Pd 코팅된 $Nb_{56}Ti_{23}Ni_{21}$ 합금 분리막의 수소투과 특성)

  • We make a studyof the hydrogen permeability and chemical stability of $Nb_{56}Ti_{23}Ni_{21}$ metal alloy membrane. For this purpose, we produced the $Nb_{56}Ti_{23}Ni_{21}$ membrane which has 10 mm diameter and 0.5 mm thick, and experiment the hydrogen transport properties under two kinds of feed gas ($H_2$ 100%; $H_2$ 60% + $CO_2$ 40%) at $450^{\circ}C$C with variation of absolute pressure.The maximum hydrogen permeation flux was $5.58mL/min/cm^2$ in the absolute pressure 3 bar under pure hydrogen. And each case of feed gases about gas composition, the permeation fluxes were satisfied with Sievert's law, and the hydrogen permeation flux decreased with decrease of hydrogen partial pressure irrespective of temperature and pressure. After permeation test, we experiment the stability and durability of $Nb_{56}Ti_{23}Ni_{21}$ alloy membrane for carbon dioxide by XRD analysis.

Studies on the Treatment of Nickel ion Containing Wastewater by Manganese Nodule Bed Column Adsorption (니켈 함유(含有) 폐수(廢水)의 망간단괴(團塊) 고정층(園定層) 연속(連續) 흡착(吸着) 처리(處理))

  • Continuous column adsorption experiments have been conducted fur artificial and actual wastewater which containing $Ni^{2+}$ by using manganese nodule as an adsorbent for the purpose of wastewater treatment along with an increased $Ni^{2+}$ recovery in the refining of manganese nodule. The adsorption features of $Ni^{2+}$ artificial wastewater were examined by taking the height of fixed bed, influent flow rate, and the initial concentration of adsorbate as the influential parameters. The adsorption capacity of manganese nodule and the rate constant for $Ni^{2+}$ adsorption were estimated employing Bohart-Adams equation. In addition, the variation of the adsorbed amount of adsorbate for each column according to the influent flow rate and the initial concentration of adsorbate was investigated based on the breakthrough curves fur each column. For serially connected columns, the adsorbed amount of $Ni^{2+}$ for each column was observed to increase gradually as the adsorption proceeded from the initial column to the final column. The variation of the breakthrough curve for actual wastewater with the height of fixed bed was not so significant as that for artificial wastewater, which was considered to be due to the high concentration of $Ni^{2+}$ in actual wastewater. Regarding the effect of the particle size of manganese nodule on adsorption, the adsorbed amount of adsorbate was found to somewhat increase as the particle size became smaller.

A Study on the Cobalt Blue Spinel Stains (코발트 청색 채색료에 대한 연구)

  • The cobalt blue spinel stains (main composition; CoO:$Al_2O_3$=1 : 1) in CoO-NiO-$Al_2O_$3 and $CoO-Al_2O_3-Cr_2O_3$ system were prepared by the calcination of each component oxides to be adequate for the factory. The color development, the change of the lattice constnat of the spinel and its application to colored glazes were studied. The results were summarized as follows. 1) In CoO-Al_2O_3$ spinel, the excess addition of each component hardly made any variation in lattice constantand alumina-rich spinel specimens caused the brilliant blue color fade. 2) An increase of $Ni^{2+}$ in $CoO-NiO-Al_2O_3$ system, made the lattice constnat of the $CoO-Al_2O_3$ spinel smaller, and an increase of $Cr^{3+}$ in $CoO-Al_2O_3-Cr_2O_3$, larger. 3) Glazed stains under lead glaze were colored nearly same dark blue color fade.

  • This study was to evaluate the effect of carbon content on metallic change and fatigue characteristics with Fe-29% Ni-17% Co, low heat expansion alloy, widely using electronic components, precision machines, and sealing with glass and metal etc. The steels were fabricated with variation of carbon content, 0, 0.03, 0.06, 0.1, and 0.20% with VIM and tensile test and fatigue test were performed to achieve the above purpose. The more carbon content, the higher hardness value and yield strength. But elongation of 0.03%C, 0.06%C, and 0.10%C specimen decreased about 2.2%, 1.5% and 0.8% respectively mote than that of the base metal. Especially the strength and elongation of 0.20%C specimen increased simultaneously about 14.4% and 7.5%. Fatigue life of 0.03%C specimen decreased but the more carbon content, the higher fatigue life over 0.06% carbon content more than that of base metal.

  • Lithium ferrites are a low-cost material which have been prominent in the high frequency core industry because of their excellent temperature performance and high squareness ratio. In order to develope the lithium ferrites with the high squareness and low coercive force, the ferrites of $Li_{0.48}Bi_{0.02}Ni_{0.04}Fe_{2.46-x}O_4$ were investigated the by varying composition, temperature and frequency. Electric loss of the Li-ferrite was lowered with the substitution of $Mn_{2}O_3$. The addition of $Mn_{2}O_3$ increased the magnetic induction (Bm&Br) but decreased the coercive force (Hc) and the squareness ratio (R=Br/Bm). Also, the Br value was stable at environmental temperature variation.

Effects by Variation of Raw Materials on Physical Properties of Ni-Zn Ferrite (원료 변화에 따른 Ni-Zn Ferrite의 물리적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • We studied the physical properties of Ni-Zn ferrites by adding different chemicals such as $SO_4$, Cl, and $NO_3$. Specimens were prepared by the coprecipitation method and sintered at temperatures $950^{\circ}C,\;1,150^{\circ}C,\;and\;1,350^{\circ}C$, respectively. X-ray diffractions showed a spinel structure and the optical microscopy revealed grain size of 0.3 to 0.6 ${\mu}m$. The optimum sintering temperature to obtain fine, sintered microstructure depended on the additive : Cl and $NO_3\;at\;950^{\circ}C\;and\;SO_4\;at\;1,150^{\circ}C$. According to particle size analysis, higher magnetic permeability and magnetization value were observed with Cl and $NO_3\;than\;SO_4$. As sintering temperature was raised from $950^{\circ}C$ to $1,350^{\circ}C$, the average grain diameter, initial permeability and the magnetic moment also increased.

  • Preparation and characteristics of electroless Ni-P and Ni-B systems for semiconducting ceramics have been investigated as a function of deposit rate, reducing agent and pH variation. The effect of DMAB as ruducing agent is greater than that of sodium hypophosphite. The nickel electrode prepared from the nickel-phosphorus system with sodium hypophosphite shows low contact resistance of 0.99ohm compared with the resistance of 10chm in the electrode prepared from the nickel-boron system with DMAB. The contact resistance increases with increasing pH valuein the nickel-phosphorus system with sodium hypophosphite. The ratio of Ni to P is about 76.0/24.0 for the contact resistance of 0.99ohm in the above system.

  • The effects of electrolysis conditions on the composition and preferred orientation of Ni-Fe alloy were studied using the sulfate-chloride baths paddle agitated. Cathode current efficiency is higher in the deposits from bath 2 than that of deposits from bath 1. The Fe content of alloy deposits from bath 2 is nearly constant(19∼21wt.%) in the wide range of current density, while it decreases noticeably with current density in the deposits from bath 1. The variation of Fe content at the edge of specimen is lower in deposits from bath 2 than those from bath 1. The alloy deposits show (111) & (200) preferred orientation for the deposits from bath 1 and bath 2 respectively.

Multifunctionality in Ceramic/Metal Nanocomposites

  • Several fabrication processes, corresponding nanostructural features and multifunctionality as well has been investigated for oxide ceramic based nanocomposites with metal nanodispersion (i.e., ceramic/metal nanocomposites). Transition metal (Ni, Co, etc) dispersed alumina and zirconia based nanocomposites have been synthesized by reducing and hot-press sintering of ceramic and metal oxide mixtures prepared by several method. Improved fracture strength (1.1 and 1.9 GPa for $Al_2O_3/Ni$ and $ZrO_2/Ni$ nanocomposites, respectively) of these composites have been achieved according to their nanostructures. In addition, ferromagnetic characteristic has been kept. The variation of magnetization with an applied stress has found to be more sensitive as smaller as the magnetic metal dispersion is. This result thus suggests the possibility of fracture and/or stress sensing of the composites by simple magnetic measurement.
