In this paper, the dynamic analysis of a dolphin system for mooring a floating structure such as barge mounted plant is studied. The characteristics of the soil-pile system are simplified by a set of equivalent spring elements at the mudline. To evaluate the equivalent spring constants, the finite difference method is used. Since the characteristics of the soil-pile system are nonlinear in case of soft foundation, the nonlinear dynamic analysis technique is needed. The Newmark $beta$ method incorporating the modified Newton-Raphson method(initial stiffness method) is used. A numerical analysis is performed on two mooring dolphin systems on soft foundation and rock foundation. In case of the rock foundation, the characteristics are found to be nearly linear, so the linear dynamic analysis may be sufficient to consider the foundation effect. But in case of soft foundation, the non-linearity of the foundation appears to be very signigicant, so the nonlinear dynamic analysis si needed.
Induction motors have wide applicability in many fields, both in industrial sectors and households, for their advantages of a high efficiency and robust structure. The introduction of power-source-containing harmonics into the induction motor winding lowers its efficiency and increases its temperature, greatly affecting its operation characteristics. In this study, we performed an electromagnetic field analysis using the time-difference finite-element method with the purpose of analyzing the steady-state current characteristics of an induction motor. Additionally, we calculated the steady-state current with a method combining an electromagnetic field equation and a circuit equation. In the electromagnetic field analysis, the nonlinearity was taken into account using the Newton-Raphson method, and a backward time-difference method was employed for the time derivative term. Then, we compared the steady-state current of the induction motor obtained by calculation with the experimentally measured values, thus validating the proposed algorithm. Furthermore, we analyzed the impacts of the shape and material of the rotor conductor bar of the induction motor on the steady-state current of the main winding.

This paper proposes a separation and feature extraction of image signals using the independent component analysis(ICA) based on neural networks of efficient learning rule. The proposed learning rule is a hybrid fixed-point(FP) algorithm based on secant method and momentum. Secant method is applied to improve the performance by simplifying the 1st-order derivative computation for optimizing the objective function, which is to minimize the mutual informations of the independent components. The momentum is applied for high-speed convergence by restraining the oscillation in the process of converging to the optimal solution. The proposed algorithm has been applied to the composite images generated by random mixing matrix from the 10 images of $512\times512$-pixel. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better performances of the separation speed and rate than those using the FP algorithm based on Newton and secant method. The proposed algorithm has been also applied to extract the features using a 3 set of 10,000 image patches from the 10 fingerprints of $256\times256$-pixel and the front and the rear paper money of $480\times225$-pixel, respectively, The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has also better extraction speed than those using the another methods. Especially, the 160 basis vectors(features) of $16\times16$-pixel show the local features which have the characteristics of spatial frequency and oriented edges in the images.

This paper proposes an efficient separation method of the composite images by using independent component analysis(ICA) based on neural networks of the approximate learning algorithm. The Proposed learning algorithm is the fixed point(FP) algorithm based on Secant method which can be approximately computed by only the values of function for estimating the root of objective function for optimizing entropy. The secant method is an alternative of the Newton method which is essential to differentiate the function for estimating the root. It can achieve a superior property of the FP algorithm for ICA due to simplify the composite computation of differential process. The proposed algorithm has been applied to the composite signals and image generated by random mixing matrix in the 4 signal of 500-sample and the 10 images of $512{\times}512-pixel$, respectively The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better performance of the learning speed and the separation than those using the conventional algorithm based method. It also solved the training performances depending on initial points setting and the nonrealistic learning time for separating the large size image by using the conventional algorithm.
Peak or near-peak metamorphic temperatures and pressures for Seosan area could be estimated from major element method. Temperatures calculated from garnet-biotite geothermoneter(Ferry and Spear, 1978; Ganguly and Saxena, 1984) are $620{\pm}40^{\circ}C$ and $520{\pm}20^{\circ}C$ for Seosan and Daesan Formation respectively. Presures derived from garnet-plagiciase-$Al_2Si_O_2$-quartz geobarometer(Newton and Haselton, 1981; Ganguly and Saxena, 1984)suggest 5-6kb for both of Seosan and Daesan Formation. These results suggest that under isobaric, Seosan Formation underwent relatively high temperature metamorphism compared with Daesan Formation. Chemical zonations of garnet for major elements such as Fe, Mg, and Mn in Seosan and Dasan Formation show different patterns each other probably caused by different thermal history.

In this paper we propose a new pre-processing algorithm applied to multi-view video coding using color compensation algorithm based on image features. Multi-view images have a difference between neighboring frames according to illumination and different camera characteristics. To compensate this color difference, first we model the characteristics of cameras based on frame's feature from each camera and then correct the color difference. To extract corresponding features from each frame, we use Harris corner detection algorithm and characteristic coefficients used in the model is estimated by using Gauss-Newton algorithm. In this algorithm, we compensate RGB components of target images, separately from the reference image. The experimental results with many test images show that the proposed algorithm peformed better than the histogram based algorithm as much as 14 % of bit reduction and 0.5 dB ~ 0.8dB of PSNR enhancement.

This paper investigates the output powers of PV modules by predicting three unknown parameters: reverse saturation current, and series and shunt resistances. A theoretical model using the non-uniform physical parameters of solar cells, including the temperature coefficients, voltage, current, series and shunt resistances, is proposed to obtain the I-V characteristics of PV modules. The solar irradiation effect is included in the model to improve the accuracy of the output power. Analytical and Newton methods are implemented in MATLAB to calculate a module output. Experimental data of the non-uniform solar cells for both serial and parallel connections are used to extend the implementation of the model based on the I-V equation of the equivalent circuit of the cells and to extend the application of the model to m by n modules configuration. Moreover, the theoretical model incorporates, for the first time, the variations of series and shunt resistances, reverse saturation current and irradiation for easy implementation in real power generation. Finally, this model can be useful in predicting the degradation of a PV system because of evaluating the variations of series and shunt resistances, which are critical in the reliability analysis of PV power generation.
A method for dynamic analysis and design calculation of a Powertrain Mounting System(PMS) including Hydraulic Engine Mounts(HEM) is developed with the aim of controlling powertrain motion and reducing low-frequency vibration in pitch and bounce modes. Here the pitch mode of the powertrain is defined as the mode rotating around the crankshaft of an engine for a transversely mounted powertrain. The powertrain is modeled as a rigid body connected to rigid ground by rubber mounts and/or HEMs. A mount is simplified as a three-dimensional spring with damping elements in its Local Coordinate System(LCS). The relation between force and displacement of each mount in its LCS is usually nonlinear and is simplified as piecewise linear in five ranges in this paper. An equation for estimating displacements of the powertrain center of gravity(C.G.) under static or quasi-static load is developed using Newton's second law, and an iterative algorithm is presented to calculate the displacements. Also an equation for analyzing the dynamic response of the powertrain under ground and engine shake excitations is derived using Newton's second law. Formulae for calculating reaction forces and displacements at each mount are presented. A generic PMS with four rubber mounts or two rubber mounts and two HEMs are used to validate the dynamic analysis and design calculation methods. Calculated displacements of the powertrain C.G. under static or quasi-static loads show that a powertrain motion can meet the displacement limits by properly selecting the stiffness and coordinates of the tuning points of each mount in its LCS using the calculation methods developed in this paper. Simulation results of the dynamic responses of a powertrain C.G. and the reaction forces at mounts demonstrate that resonance peaks can be reduced effectively with HEMs designed on the basis of the proposed methods.

This paper presents development and verification of the progressive failure analysis upon the composite laminates. Strength and stiffness of the fiber-reinforced composite are analyzed by property degradation approach with emphasis on the material nonlinearity and continuum damage mechanics (CDM). Longitudinal and transverse tensile modes derived from Hashin's failure criterion are used to predict the thresholds for damage initiation and growth. The modified Newton-Raphson iterative procedure is implemented for determining nonlinear elastic and viscoelastic constitutive relations. Laminar properties of the composite are obtained by experiments. Prediction on the un-notched tensile (UNT) specimen is performed under the laminate level. Stress-strain curves and strength results are compared with the experimental measurement. It is concluded that the present nonlinear CDM approach is capable of predicting the strength and stiffness more accurately than the corresponding linear CDM one does.
This study deals with thegeometrical nonlinear dynamic behavior of laminated plates made of advanced composite materials (ACMs), which contain central cutouts. Based on the first-order shear deformation plate theory (FSDT), the Newmark method and Newton-Raphson iteration wereused for the nonlinear dynamic solution. The effects of the cutout sizes and lay-up sequences on the nonlinear dynamic response for various parameters werestudied using a nonlinear dynamic finite element program that was developed for this study. The several numerical results agreed well with those reported by other investigators for square composite plates with or without central cutouts, and the new results reported in this paper showed significant interactions between the cutout and the layup sequence in the laminate. Key observation points are discussed and a brief design guide for laminates with central cutouts is given.
