  • We studied the meaning of the term avant-garde in relation to clothing of the 1980s and 1990s by examining the media's perceptions of Martin Margiela, a Belgian deconstructionist designer who was often labeled as avant-garde by journalists, scholars, and fashion critics in the late 20th century. A five-step content analysis method described by Paoletti (1982) was used to conduct the research. Newspaper and magazine articles in the 1980s and 1990s were analyzed using a set of existing avant-garde characteristics developed by Crane (1987) to determine if those journalists' perceptions matched the characteristics described by Crane. Results indicated that the journalists' critiques and descriptions matched the avant-garde characteristics described by Crane (1987). Including a subjective element to the conceptualization of the term explains how journalists described Margiela's designs despite Japanese designers' use of similar techniques before him. We (re) conceptualize the term's latter 20th century meaning and shifting dialogue to include a subjective element.

  • Although the rapid development of technology has led to a swift increase in the number of companies using social networking services (SNS), it will not be accurate to say that they have fully "utilized" the functionality of SNS simply by "using" these services. Therefore, this study aims to increase the convenience of using digital technology and help SNS users in extending the functionality of these services beyond their regular use and thus, revitalize the field by increasing the service providers' efficiency. In this study, the Facebook usage status of a graduate school newspaper from an undisclosed university in Seoul was analyzed from February to December, 2021 using the participant observation method. The results of the study revealed the following: First, it is necessary to diversify the subject and type of content to ensure a continuous supply of quality content; Second, there is a need to examine the user categories and characteristics by utilizing SNS functionalities such as, the target reports and insights, and based on this, supply content that meets the needs of the users; Third, to resolve the problem of low levels of user participation and an inactive Facebook account, it is necessary to mobilize new marketing tools like online events. The significance of this study is that it confronts the real problems faced by some companies that cannot keep pace with market changes in a digital environment, identifies failure factors, and proposes solutions to them.

  • As Internet usage widely grows, online content services such as newspaper, magazine, music, game and movie are provided with a fee-based subscription. Many content services providers consider charging a usage fee into its service provisions as one of the Internet business models for increasing revenue. There are customer resistances to adopting the fee-based service provision on the Web. Previous research in information systems (IS)has focused on the analysis of adoption of information technology or systems in the individual ororganization level. No principle research has been carried out on the user adoption behavior of online content services provisions. As users actively access content services on the Web, it needs to explore user adoption behavior in different settings. Many IS researcher have employedquantitative approaches, even though they deal with the process of user behavior regarding the information technology or system. In this study, we attempt to discover how customers adopt the fee-based provision of online content services by employing grounded theory, one of the principal qualitative research methods.
