  • Small hydropower is one of the many types of new and renewable energy, which South Korea is planning to develop, as the country is abundant in endowed resources. In order to fully utilize small hydropower resources, there is a need for greater precision in quantifying small hydropower resources and establish an environment in which energy sources can be discovered using the small hydropower resource management system. This study has given greater precision to calculating annual electricity generation and installed capacity of small hydropower plants of Nakdong river system by inquiring into average annual rainfall, basin area and runoff coefficient, which is anticipated to promote small hydropower resources utilization. Small hydropower resource management system was also established by additionally providing base information on quantified small hydropower resources and analysis function and small hydropower generator status, rivers, basin, rainfall gauging station, water level gauging station etc.. Small hydropower resource management system can be used gather basic information for positive applications of small hydropower energy nationwide.

  • This paper presents the effect on application of the flywheel energy storage system (FESS) for load frequency control (LFC) of an interconnected 2 area power system. To do this, the control characteristics with the FESS were compared with that of the conventional governor controller. The controller for the FESS control and the governor control used a PID type controller. Both the FESS PID controller and the governor PID controller using genetic algorithm (GA) were designed to optimize the PID parameters. The frequency and generation output characteristics with the only FESS controller and with the only conventional governor controller were compared. To verify robust performance of the FESS controller, the computer simulations were performed under various disturbances. The simulation results showed that the FESS controller provided better dynamic responses in comparison with the conventional governor controller.

  • The generation of small hydropower as compared to other different developed environmental methods produces one of the clean energies. In such manner, various application system development through IT technique is being developed for an advanced small hydropower energy resources data mining. However, existing data analysis of New & Renewable Information System for small hydropower resources application is incomplete therefore it limits expressing these information on the Web. Thus for positive usage of small hydropower resources, a more systematic and precise analysis system should be built. This study seeks to develop a map of the domestic small hydropower resources problems to further improve small hydropower resources, developed through Package Tool which can accurately evaluate a wide range of small hydropower basin in a short period of time. Small hydropower Package Tool was calculated using existing Analysis System small hydropower resources which did not provide diverse capabilities resulting to 840 standard basin classified by A and facility capacity, etc., and to assume a 40% annual capacity, expected annual electricity production was calculated. Small hydropower for the national water system of small hydropower resources potential calculated in terms of resources for the development of small hydropower will be utilized as basic data.

  • This study aimed to verify the learning effectiveness of students who took courses in the field of new and renewable energy, which have been operated within a convergence university system. To achieve this, data were collected from 1,228 students who participated in 34 courses jointly developed and conducted by seven universities as part of standard curriculum offerings. The study analyzed learning effectiveness (course satisfaction, transfer motivation, learning transfer, creativity-convergence competency) using Excel 2018 and SPSS 25.0. It also examined inter-university differences in learning effectiveness and identified factors influencing creativity-convergence competency. The main findings are as follows: (a) Course satisfaction (M= 4.20), transfer motivation (M=3.62), learning transfer (M= 4.06), and creativity-convergence competency (M=3.92) were generally high. (b) Analysis of learning effectiveness differences between universities showed no significant differences among universities A, B, C, D, and E. University F was lower compared to other universities, while University G was significantly higher than others. (c) Sex, grade, number of courses taken, course satisfaction, transfer motivation, and learning transfer had effect on creativity-convergence competency. The results of this study provided implications for promoting activities to attract students, expanding transfer opportunities, and ensuring student agency.

  • In recent years, installation of the new and renewable energy system is rapidly increasing. Because the new and renewable energy system is a practical distributed generation system to save energy resources and to keep environments clean. Conventional single-phase utility interactive inverter controls output current by using PI current controller. However, this method is insufficient to suppress harmonic current resulted from nonlinear loads in grid line. In this paper, in order to suppress periodic waveform distortion and improve THD(Total Harmonic Distortion), new type current controller added a parallel repetitive controller is proposed and then performance of the proposed controller was verified with computer simulation.

  • The advantages of solar energy are that it is renewable, infinite supplied and environmentally safe energy source. However, solar energy related products have the problems such as the limitation for installation, problems in maintenance and insufficient reliability which have been the barrier to consumers to satisfy the purchase need for solar heat related products. In this regard, in order to support the solar energy related companies the necessity for various technical information required for the commercialization of new products such as various performance test necessary for the certification of solar energy system, standardization for facilities and products, performance evaluation method and the measurement of performance is suggested. The purpose of this paper is to design the monitoring system for positive tests of system linked household hot water system using solar heat out of various solar energy systems, to establish an analysis and monitoring system for performance maintenance and operation technique, and to configure the centralized detection network by utilizing remote monitoring system. This research also aims at conducting monitoring for operation and performance evaluation in relation to database establishment and analytical evaluation and at describing the method of enhancing the reliability of solar energy system through the development of performance evaluation program.

  • Paris Agreement signed in January 2015 is a new rule that will replace the existing Kyoto Protocol. The new agreement needs new demands and challenges to minimize carbon emissions. Especially, even though agricultural sector occupies only 1.8% in the national energy consumption, the portion of the energy being occupied in agricultural production costs very high. Although renewable energy and energy-saving facilities is being developed and disseminated for replacing fossil fuel energy and saving energy, the installation-rate is not enough high. Thus, this paper developed Korean-style smart farm system, and carried out the experiment to show the performance of energy savings through analyzing proper environment in domestic situation.

  • New and renewable energy systems(solar thermal system, photovoltaic system, geothermal system, wind power system) are environmentally friendly technologies and these in South Korea are very important measures to reduce greenhouse-gas(GHG) and to push ahead with Green Growth. The purpose of this paper is to analyze GHG mitigation potential by distribution of solar thermal system in housing sector with bottom-up model called 'Long-range Energy Alternative Planning system'. Business as usual(BAU) was based on energy consumption characteristic with the trend of social-economic prospects and the volume of housing. The total amount of GHG emission of BAU was expected to continuous increase from 66.0 million-ton $CO_{2e}$ in 2007 to 73.1 million-ton $CO_{2e}$ in 2030 because of the increase of energy consumption in housing. The alternative scenario, distribution of solar thermal system in housing sector had GHG mitigation potential 1.54 million-ton $CO_{2e}$ in 2030. The results of this study showed that new and renewable energy systems made a contribution of reducing the use of fossil fuel and the emission of greenhouse-gas in building.

  • This paper proposes central monitoring system(PVCMS) based on a TCP/IP network for effective integrating management about photovoltaic systems. We don't gain confidence the result of production simulation, because the output of PV system have many various environmental change factor. So if we can obtain real operated data about each sites and system types to use PVCMS, we can define the environment change factor to compare with simulation data. And this paper try to access about total management and data analysis methods of renewable energy through results analysis to synthesize of the operation.

  • This global case study pursues diversification and intensification for an application system of the national wind atlas which has been developed to support national strategy building and promotion of wind energy dissemination. We chose nine counties' national wind atlas and compared their map area, extraction height, temporal and spatial resolutions, download services, etc. to derive a best practice for the Korea wind atlas application system. Therefore, the web service content is designed to offer high-resolution height information of which covers wind turbine rotor sweeping area and time-series dataset which can be downloaded for further analysis by users. It is anticipated that the system and web service would contribute greatly to wind energy policy making, business and research sectors.
