Investigation into the sources of firms' ideas for new product development is very important because the capabilities of developing new products determine the competitiveness of a firm. This study aims at drawing the managerial implications for new product development in terms of the autonomy and the size of firms. To do this, this study analyzes how the capabilities of developing new products and the sources of ideas are different by the types of firms. More concretely, it compares differences in the capabilities of developing new products between types of firms, and in the sources of ideas for new product development between internal sources and external sources.
High-tech industries in Taiwan exist in an environment with diverse product requirements and intense cost reduction and information integration stress. They must develop new operational directions to increase industry competitiveness. Therefore, Taiwan's high-tech industries must continue R&D and creativity, establish knowledge sharing mechanisms and improve new product development (NPD) performance. This research analyzed and explored the influences of knowledge management (KM) and knowledge sharing mechanisms introduced by Taiwan's high-tech industries on new product development performance. The relationship between knowledge management capabilities and NPD performance is studied. This research considers the intervening industry and corporate position variables. Taiwan's high-tech industries have gradually entered the era of IT region integration and application with competitive advantage creation based upon core techniques. The in-depth study of knowledge management and knowledge sharing introduced by the high-tech industry revealed double meanings in academic and practical applications. The research results showed the following: (1) the stronger the knowledge management capabilities of Taiwan's high-tech industries, the more significant the NPD performance. (2) The better the knowledge sharing mechanism in Taiwan's high-tech industries, the more significant the NPD performance. (3) Corporate scale is not necessarily the critical factor in NPD success and the influence of corporate scale on NPD performance did not show significant differences. (4) The stronger the degree of leading corporate techniques, the more significant the NPD performance.

As competition among companies has intensified and the life cycle of products has been shortened, strong innovation is needed to meet consumers' needs. In addition, it is necessary to shorten the life cycle of the product and reduce the time required for technology development for the competitive advantage of the product. In particular, venture companies where new technologies and ideas are important require more innovative capabilities than others companies. Therefore, this study analyzed the impact of technology innovation capabilities (product development process capability, human resource capability and financial capability) on sales by technology development for small and medium venture companies and analyzed moderating effect of technology development period on the relationship between technology innovation capabilities and sales by technology development. The data of 'Small and Medium Business Technology Statistics' collected by the government every year were used for analysis. Technology-intensive ventures were extracted from this data. In addition, the moderating effect was analyzed through hierarchical regression analysis. This study shows that product planning capability, test capability, and R&D expenditure have a positive impact on sales by technology development. In this study, the product development period showed a positive moderating effect on product development capability and sales performance. On the other hand, the product development period showed a negative moderating effect on R&D expenditure and sales by technology development.
Purpose: This study is about Lean-NPD (New Product Development). Lean-NPD is Pulip Line's New Product Development type. This study introduced Lean-NPD Definition, Case Study, and Research Model of Lean-NPD. Empirical results of this survey will be provide suggestions to workers. Methods: Researcher developed research model about Lean-NPD activities. And researched Lean-NPD. This study analyzed model fitness and path significant with SEM(Structural Equation Model). Results: Fitness of the research model was satisfactory level. Leadership capabilities and production operations were significantly influence marketing capabilities(t> ${\pm}1.96$). Organizational culture significantly affected marketing capabilities(t> ${\pm}1.96$). R&D capabilities and marketing competencies had significant influence on business performance(t> ${\pm}1.96$). Purpose: This study's purpose is to explore the relationship between entrepreneurial marketing orientation on new product development performance via marketing and innovation capabilities. Research design, data, and methodology: This research has applied a survey method which involved 159 respondents from food retailers among Michelin Guide Restaurants in Thailand. The literature's existing measurement scales were used to operationalize the constructs proposed in this study. The analyses were conducted using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the hypotheses. Results: The results have shown that new product development performance received positive and direct impacts from entrepreneurial marketing orientation, particularly in three dimensions: customer value orientation, opportunity-driven initiatives, and leveraged resources. Likewise, new product development performance received a positive, indirect impact from opportunity-driven initiatives, risk management, customer value orientation, and innovation that is focused on marketing and innovation capabilities. Conclusions: The results are useful for Thai food retailers as to strategy formulation in order to attract tourists from all over the world to tourist destinations in Thailand. Therefore, this empirical study is extremely important for domestic economic development and the international economy. These findings provide theoretical and managerial contributions for developing competitive strategies which will lead to sustainable business practices, as well as for providing future research directions.
Purpose This study examines the influence of product development competence and IT competence on new product development (NPD) performance in the context of Korean companies. To achieve this goal, this study presents and empirically tests a model of how NPD competence and IT competence can be exploited to positively influence NPD performance through convergence capabilities. Design/methodology/approach The NPD competence are based on the research construct developed by Zhang et al. (2013). IT competence is based on the research construct developed by Lu and Ramamurthy(2011) and the NPD performance are based on the performance construct developed by Sivadas and Dwyer (2000). To complete the investigation, we conducted a survey from Korean 1000 big companies, which enrolled in Korean stock market. Randomly contacted 171 Korean companies, including firms of all sizes and types. To test our hypotheses, structured equation model (SEM) with partial least squares (PLS) method was employed. Findings The findings indicate that NPD competence and IT competence are antecedent to convergence capabilities, while IT competence is higher influence than NPD competence. Also, convergence capabilities has very significant relationship with NPD performance. This study provides a better understanding of the relationship between NPD competence, IT competence, convergence capabilities, and NPD performance. So companies should focus on improving NPD and IT competence on NPD performance through convergence capabilities.
This study is designed to explore whether the integration of product development and quality management have influence on the success of localization of weapon system. To that end, empirical analysis has been conducted on a total of 110 systematic major defense contractors, their subcontractors and small-and-medium sized defense contractors. The result shows that success of the localization of weapons system, as well as the price of localization, manufacturing time, and quality turn out to have significantly influenced by factors of quality management capabilities including human resources development capability, organizational capability and process capability and R&D development factors including human resources capabilities, capability to accumulate technology and internal/external collaborative capabilities. To sum up, this study suggests that integration of quality management and product development continuously provides a competitive strength in developing new product by a non-defense company as well as localization of core parts of weapon system.
Amid the growing importance and growth potential of venture firms worldwide, this study aimed to figure out the effect of new product development capabilities (NPDC) on the internationalization of Korean venture firms and the moderating impact of founders' human capital. NPDC is a core competency that can cope with the rapidly changing market environment and is required when entering multinational markets. Therefore, we subdivided founders' human capital into professional experience, startup experience, education level, and marketing capacity and examined each moderating effect on a venture firm's internationalization. As a result of empirical analysis of 1,362 Korean venture firms using the Tobit model, this study found that venture firms with excellent NPDC tend to achieve a higher level of internationalization. In addition, among the founder's human capitals, professional experience, education level, and marketing competency moderated the positive relationship between NPDC and internationalization. In contrast, the founder's startup experience was insignificant. The results of this empirical analysis explain the factors that trigger the internationalization performance of venture firms from the perspective of dynamic capabilities and suggest that the founder's human capital played an essential role in the internationalization.
