And preferred showed that they did not care much about son preference. 5) Most new generation family showed strong sense of responsibility for taking care of their old parents. However, they showed independency of financial planning for later years. 6) In many ways of life, their recognitions and attitudes were progressive but their were conservative in practical life as the older generations did.

  • In the last thirty years, societal changes have affected Korean families at a fast pace. Some of these changes include the fall of childbirth rate, expansion of women in the workforce, delay of first marriages, and rise of divorces, remarriages, and international marriages. These new trends have created and diversified new contexts for family structures and parent-child relationships. Both parents and children are now confronted with a myriad of new challenges and in need of understanding the newly transformed-family environments in respond to new ecological pressures. Contemporary issues concerning parent-child relationships are discussed by analyzing the new trends and research issues on particular social issues and pressures. Future policy issues are discussed based on these analyses combined with the critical impact of the parent-child relationships on child development.

  • In this article, a new family of lifetime distributions by adding two additional parameters is introduced. The new family is called, the logarithmic Kumaraswamy family of distributions. For the proposed family, explicit expressions for some mathematical properties are derived. Maximum likelihood estimates of the model parameters are also obtained. This method is applied to develop a new lifetime model, called the logarithmic Kumaraswamy Weibull distribution. The proposed model is very flexible and capable of modeling data with increasing, decreasing, unimodal or modified unimodal shaped hazard rates. To access the behavior of the model parameters, a simulation study has been carried out. Finally, the potentiality of the new method is proved via analyzing two real data sets.

  • The puropse of the study is to investigate value consciousness and management behavior of the new-generation housewives' on the family life, that is to say, household work, time management, money management, human-relationship, reducing environ-mertal pollution. To achieve this purposes, reviewing literatures and emporical research have been conducted. The sample of this study was selected from the married women living in Seoul. The major findings of this study are summarized as follows. The mean score of new-generation housewives' value consciousness on the family life was relatively high(3,94 out of 5). The mean score of value consciousness on reducing environmental pollution was the highest, and that on household work was the lowest. The mean score of new-generation housewives' management behavior on the family life was a little high(3.47 out of 5). The mean score of management behavior on reducing environmental pollution was the highest, and that on money management was the lowest. The new-generation urban housewives' have responded positively concerning the relationship between value consciousness and management behavior on the family life.

  • Spongicola tropicanus, a new genus and species of the family Eunicicolidae, and Asterocheres brevisurculus, a new species of the family Asterocheridae, are described as copepods associated with the sponge Phyllospongia foliascens (Pallas) from the Moluccas. Spongicola is the second genus of the family and may be characterized by a two-segmented prosome, the absence of leg 3, and the presence of leg 5. Asterocheres brevisurculus may be charecterized by one-segmented mandibular palp, short oral siphon, and 19-segmented female antennule.

  • This study reviews and analyses the policy changes happened in Britain regarding the family and children. Traditionally Britain has employed non-interventionist policies for the family and child care assuming the family as a private domain. This policy had been reinforced during the Thatcher regime. However the traditional families that Beveridge had idealized have been rapidly disappearing and child poverty has become critical concern for Blair's New Labour government with the rising number of lone parent families. The New labour's child and family-friendly policies to enhance the family life have been examined on the basis of government reports on Child Benefit, WFTC, Child Support Agency and the plans to support parents and to implement the child and family-friendly practices.

  • The purpose of this ethnography is to describe and analyze the process of becoming a wild geese mother. Thirteen mothers from New York, California, and Texas of U.S.A. were interviewed with an unstructured questionnaire. There are several different patterns of the process; 'the short term', 're-departure after returning to Korea', 'a step to initiate their family's immigration', 'sudden and unintentional'. In the first stage of the family living rearrangement, the main issues are about the wider free world, proper time for leaving and proper period for staying, where to live and my husband's independent living. The wild geese mothers perform the concrete tasks about the everyday living for the new mother-child family in the foreign country. They report their subjective interpretation for their new life.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the relative influence of OCM and BSM's family functioning dimensions and develop a new family system model related to adolescent adjustment. The 443 subjects were selected randomly from the second grade of middle and high schools in the city of Taegu. The survey instruments were FACESⅢ, SFI-Ⅱ, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Depression Scale, Self-Esteem Scale, and Delinquency Scale, Factor Analysis, Cronbach's α, Multiple Regression, MANOVA, Scheffe test were conducted for the data analysis. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, OCM's and BSM's family functioning dimensions respectively had different relative influence that affected adolescent adjustment level. In anxiety and depression. BSM's family health/competence dimension had superior influence to any other family functioning dimensions and in self-esteem and delinquency, OCM's cohesion dimension was superior to any other family functions. Second, family system classification method by a new family system model using family cohesion(OCM's relationship dimension) and family health/competence(BSM's change dimension) was more useful than OCM in evaluating adolescent adjustment.

  • To compete global marketplace, many firms are adopting product families to increase variety, satisfy customer requirements, shorten lead-times and reduce costs. The key to a successful product family is the platform from which it is derived. When designing product families, it is important to resolve the tradeoff between product commonality and distinctiveness. To measure the commonality within a product family, it is necessary to develop the commonality index. It utilizes different parameters such as the number of common components, their cost, their manufacturing processes and so on. This paper present a new product family assessment index using the benchmarking method and considering environmental performance called green product family index(GPFI). Through the comparison analysis between some previous developed commonality indices and GPFI, we verify the suitability and effectiveness. Eventually, the proposed a new green product family assessment index can be helpful to design and develop the environmentally conscious product families.
