현대한옥의 유형 분류 -2000년 이후 건축가의 디자인을 중심으로- (Type Classification of Contemporary Hanok -Focusing on Architects' Designs since 2000-)

  • Since the recent Hanok boom in Korea, Contemporary Hanok has been evolving in terms of structure, space, form, etc. To get a comprehensive understanding of the diversified Contemporary Hanok, this paper aims at its type classification by analyzing architects' designs since 2000. The criteria for the classification are two: (1) renovation [Re] or new construction [New]; and (2) degree of Contemporary Hanok's deviation from the traditional Hanok's standard - maintaining the traditional form [Main]; changing space within the traditional form [Space]; changing the traditional frame [Frame]; and juxtaposing the traditional and the modern [Combi]. From the two criteria, this paper deduced eight types of Contemporary Hanok, named respectively: Re-Main, New-Main, Re-Space, New-Space, Re-Frame, New-Frame, Re-Combi, and New-Combi, and studied their cases. It can be argued that various aspects of Contemporary Hanok and their critical meanings were well-investigated through this type classification and case-studies.

  • This study examined the image identity of the Celine fashion house, which went through a successful re-branding using its tradition and succession, a process that was heavily influenced by their new designer, Phoebe Philo. The purpose of this study is as follows: first, to encourage the use of the fashion house in a domestic fashion market. Second, to increase awareness about image identity. Third, to provide suggestions of maintaining sustainable brand by examining a fashion house, which does not follow fast-changing fashion trends but rather leads and creates fashion styles. The study extracted the characteristics of the Celine fashion house by analyzing data, which were collected from fashion literature, its designs, and its marketing. From the data, the study found ways that a brand could use to develop continually. Phoebe Philo re-branded the Celine by using minimalism to redesign its logo and create a new brand image. Her method included the use of diverse and vivid colors via color-blocking, a feature of modern minimalism. This is a modern minimalism, which differentiates itself from others with the elaborate tailoring and delicate detailing effectively. The modern minimalism like this has, caused the new mood beyond the flow of certain art trends and led the revolution, not the advent, of the minimalism in the 1990s. This study believes that the aspect of the fashion-house following and succeeding the tradition is not just in the fashion house. This study should be seen as a significant step forward at a time when we desperately need the continuation of the unique brand recognized as fashion house in the long-term domestically.

  • 이 글의 목적은 이란의 여성감독 사미라 마흐말바프(Samira Makhmalbaf)의 작품과 영화세계를 분석하는데 있다. 사미라 감독은 총 5편의 영화를 연출했으며, 자신의 여성정체성을 바탕으로 이란의 사회현실에 대한 비판의식을 사실주의 스타일로 재현하며 이란영화의 새로운 흐름을 대표하는 여성감독이다. 이 글에서는 대표작 <사과>, <칠판>, <오후 5시>를 중심으로 그녀의 작품세계와 영화철학을 분석하고 당대 이란 사회현실과의 사회맥락적 의미를 규명한다. 이 연구를 통해 사미라 감독은 여성의 인권, 반전과 평화, 소외받는 사람들에 대한 공감으로 이슬람 사회체제가 가진 모순과 억압을 서구의 민주주의와 휴머니즘의 시선에서 비판하고 있으며, 이란의 사실주의 전통을 계승하면서도 메타포와 리얼리티를 결합하는 독특한 사실주의 미학으로 예술영화의 전통을 초극하고 있는 21세기 이란영화사의 새로운 진보와 변화(progress and change)를 상징하는 여성감독임을 확인할 수 있다.

한국에서 백의호상(白衣好尙) 현상이 고착된 배경에 관한 논의 - 유창선(劉昌宣)의 백의고(白衣考)를 중심으로 - (Discussion on the Background of the Baekeuihosang Phenomenon in Korea - Focusing on Baekeuigo written by Yoo, Changseon -)

  • Korean people have revered the white color and enjoyed wearing white clothes. Various kinds of white clothes have been worn by the Korean people, ranging from everyday wear(便服), and scholar's robe(深衣) for the upper class, to religious costumes like Buddhist monk's robe(僧服), shaman costumes(巫服) and costumes for ancestral rites(祭服), or mourning(喪服). There have been many differing opinions by historians regarding the background of this Baekeuihosang(白衣好尙, the preference for white clothing) tradition and even now, it is frequently being discussed. This study aims to consider and discuss the background of this Baekeuihosang tradition, focusing on Chang-seon Yoo's Baekeuigo(白衣考, the consideration of white clothing), which was published in Dong-A Ilbo in 1934. The purposes of studying literature such as the Baekeuigo is to analyze the arguments on the origin of Baekeuihosang, to analyze Chang-seon Yoo's claim of its origin, and to discuss the culture of Baekeuihosang. Chang-seon Yoo claimed that the existing discussions on the background of Baekeuihosang based on the lack of dyes, or undeveloped technique, economic privation and national control strayed from historical facts, according to literature review. It is not worth discussing the farfetched arguments such as the use of costumes for ancestral rites as everyday wears, or the nation of sorrow. Baekeuihosang tradition mostly originated from the effects of many religions and the taste for innocence, or naturalness. White clothes were infused with the sorrow and emotion of Korean people and were also worn to show resistance to foreign power as symbols of ethnicity. Therefore, there should be a new view of the discussion of white clothes and Korean aesthetic sense, away from the logic distorted by the Japanese colonial view of history.

공간(空間)과 천지(天地) - 동서양 건축에서의 공간관 - (Space(空問) and Sky-Earth(天地) - View of Space in the Architectures of the East and the West -)

  • We are so used to the concept of the term 'space' that we do not question its conceptual validity. However, this paper argues that the notion of space prevailing all over the world, is not a universal concept that can be applicable to all architectures of the world, but is a particular concept that is generated from the Western way of thinking. This paper alms to identify the conceptual structure of the idea of space as it is originated in the tradition of the West, and, as an alternative view of space, tries to identify the nature of the view of space perceived in the tradition of the Eastern architecture. Comparison of the two views, that of the East and the West, and their meaning in the future of architecture, is another task to discuss in this paper. To be able to clarify the meaning of space in East Asian tradition, a set of new perspective of understanding of space was invited. They are ; 1. sky-earth(天地); insisting that the notion of space should be replaced within the context of sky, which is one half of sky-earth totality 2. energy of the air (空氣), space is not empty part inside of a building, but is a dynamic condition of air that is a part of the sky which always exist in form of energy 3. place(자리): instead of space, which, basically. is a man-made concept, idea of place is necessary, which include not only space but also earth Such concept of space which is different from the notion of space of the West, is meaningful not only to identify the idea of space in the East, but also to be able to contribute for more dynamic, varied, and balanced understanding of space.

대장금(大長今)' 관련 기록의 현대적 수용 - 문화콘텐츠로의 생성과 전개 양상 분석 - (The related record about 'Daejanggeum' and its modern acceptance)

  • 2003년 텔레비전 사극(史劇)으로 방영된 드라마 <대장금(大長今)>은 원래 조선조 "중종실록(中宗實錄)"에 등장하는 궁중 여의(女醫)에 관한 단편적 역사기록을 토대로 만들어낸 이야기이다. 허구와 역사적 사실을 결합해 만들어낸 사극 <대장금>은 엄청난 인기를 끌면서 방송 드라마로만 끝나지 않고, 소설과 뮤지컬, 그리고 어린이용 애니메이션으로 재탄생하였다. 또한 드라마 촬영 장소는 테마파크로 만들어져 관광객을 유치하였고, '대장금'이란 이름은 각종 상품명으로 쓰이며 엄청난 부가가치를 창출해내었다. 무엇보다 이 드라마는 해외에도 수출되어 한류(韓流) 드라마의 대표작이 되었다. 이렇듯 <대장금>은 과거의 고전 자료가 다양한 현대적 문화콘텐츠로 활용되어 성공할 수 있음을 증명한 대표적인 작품이라 할 수 있다. <대장금>의 성공 원인을 분석해보면 현대적인 새로운 여성인물을 창조해내었고, 웰빙을 추구하는 시대 흐름에 맞는 소재의 선택, 기존 사극과는 스토리 전개로 드라마 시나리오가 매우 탄탄했다는 점을 들 수 있다. 또한 드라마 방영 전부터 '원소스멀티뉴즈(one source multi use)'의 방식을 활용하여 다양한 문화콘텐츠들을 제작해낼 준비를 함께 했다는 점이 주목된다. 이러한 대장금의 성공은 우리 고전 연구자에게 '고전의 현대적 수용'이라는 측면에서 시사하는 바 크다.

  • This paper proposes a new Interior Point Method algorithm to improve the computation speed and solution stability, which have been challenging problems for employing the nonlinear Optimal Power Flow. The proposed algorithm is different from the tradition Interior Point Methods in that it adopts the Predictor-Corrector Method. It also accommodates the five minute dispatch, which is highly recommenced in modern electricity market. Finally, the efficiency and applicability of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated with a case study.

  • The purpose of this study is to explicate the contemporary concept of the term 'sportswear' by studying the history of sportswear tradition in America where sportswear was first established and developed. American sportswear originated from some functional clothes made for specific sports during the 19th century. Early in 20th century, there occurred many significant events in America while Americans were undergoing two successive world wars. First of all, due to the wars, women's role in labor force became so significant that their social status was enhanced remarkably. With economy growing every decade, the amount of leisure time for American people substantially increased and, therefore they could develop their leisure activity culture. All these changes made Americans demand the need for comfortable and functional clothes suitable for their changed way of life. In response to this demand, the sportswear tradition became mature due to the contribution by many creative All-American designers, most of whom have made their active contributions since 1970s. Now the sportswear, which used to be designed for specific sports, developed into casual wear in general with its extended definition. The contemporary concept of sportswear is no longer limited to those clothes for specific sports. Sportswear has now become more like a casual activity wear which all classes of people can enjoy in their life. Since the concept and scope of sportswear is extended to a great degree today, we need a new professional term to correctly express the extended nature of these contemporary clothes.

소반의 구조를 적용한 Outdoor Table 디자인 연구 (Outdoor Table Design Study of Applying the Structure of Soban)

  • The approach of using the structure of the Joseon Dynasty Zen tradition we design a piece of table for outdoor camping is a necessity in modern culture as continuing to develop this research. Analyzing outdoor and camping equipment according to the time change, we focus on the study table for outdoor camping can apply the structure of the elbow. Outdoor supply is also overlaid with the change, while changing in the picnic and camping camp sensibility that was taking advantage of the individuality of each of the general camp. However, it is a surface camp that Korean culture is not to build up the camp culture that has been fixed camp culture of the world in the only development, following the camp trend of European and American. In an attempt to adhere to the trend of Korea currently camped, camping outdoor products that apply the beauty of Korea with a combination of new modern representation tradition and our culture has designed research. I have designed the camp outdoor table based on the contents mentioned above. For the design of this time, it is now possible to use appropriately in accordance with the outdoor environment conditions that are designed to upright seat sharing table in the market tables for camping and to be divided into the seat and upright.

  • A city is a type of culture as living styles people have accumulated, In Particular, urban streets are integrated bodies of culture based on regional history and tradition which are easily accessible by people. However, due to insensible expansion policy of current cities, decline of old downtowns which have kept cultural characteristics of each region, hollowing out of the downtowns, expansion of new downtowns which have uniformed characteristics are weakening identities of each region. To overcome such problems, a culture-oriented approach as one of the urban regeneration strategies which have been appeared since 1980s is effective. Life style which has been formed by human activities can be considered as the culture of comprehensive concept and peculiar resources of each region are distinctive culture of each region. Cultural streets in which people can share each other's feeling may influence regional activation through cultural influence while preserving regional tradition and history. Therefore, this study aims to discover spatial characteristics of cultural streets through theoretical examinations on formation of streets in as aspect of urban regeneration and identify their characteristics by analyzed cases of domestic cultural streets.
