  • Purpose: This review aimed to provide a new perspective on School Heath Promotion (SHP) in the context of Korea's school system. Methods: Relevant literature and reports on SHP were investigated. On the basis of the analysis, this review closely examined how SHP had been developed, and what has been happening in the recent years of SHP in advanced nations. Results: Major findings from this review in terms of finding a new perspective on SHP in Korea were to: 1) share awareness of the fundamentals of SHP; 2) establish a national framework for school-based SHP; 3) build a cooperative SHP governance; 4) strengthen a SHP monitoring and evaluation system; 5) integrate health and education. Conclusion: Recently, serious student health threats have been putting pressure on schools in Korea. This review will serve as a critical implication of how to effectively implement SHP in Korea.

  • In this paper, we introduce the definition and concept of trusted reality (TR) technology, which is a new paradigm that is required as human communication methods change into "see-thru communication." The trends related to a TR-see-direct interface, TR-privacy, a TR-physical/cyber object/service connection, and TR-open platform technology as core technologies for realizing TR are also introduced. In addition, we present a new ICT stream that can be used to build a new ICT ecosystem for the post-smartphone era.

  • This study presents a new dead-time measurement method using the gamma attenuation law and generalized dead-time models for nuclear gamma-ray detectors. The dead-time of the NaI(Tl) detection system was obtained to validate the new dead-time determination method using very thin lead and polyethylene absorbers. Non-paralyzing dead-time was found to be 8.39 ㎲, and paralyzing dead-time was found to be 8.35 ㎲ using lead absorber for NaI(Tl) scintillator detection system. These dead-time values are consistent with the previously reported dead-time values for scintillator detection systems. The gamma build-up factor's contribution to the dead-time was neglected because a very thin material was used.

  • New renewable energy information becomes one of the greatest issues all over the world because of serious environment problems and limited fossil resources. The new renewable energy source information system is treated seriously for efficient management and distribution as dealing with these energy problems. However, it is difficult to manage and utilize new renewable energy information because gathering and surveying information is progressed individually in each research field. Therefore this paper will establish ISP(Information Strategy Planning) and propose the basic management system based-on GIS to analyze new renewable energy such as solar energy, wind power, small hydro, biomass, geothermal etc. and build the integration management system. The proposed integration management system can provide spatial analysis using thematic map, data search, data import/export and interpolation about users' queries.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the problems and relevant variables for effective Organizational Socialization of new nurses, to produce a causal map, to build up a simulation model and to test its validity. Method: The basic data was collected from Sep. 2002 to July 2003. The Organizational Socialization process of new nurses was analyzed through a model simulation. The VENSIM 5.0b DSS program was used to develop the study model. Result: This Model shows interrelation of these result variables: organizational commitment, job satisfaction, job performance, intention of leaving the work setting, decision making ability, and general results of Organizational Socialization. The model's factors are characteristic of organization and individual values, task-related knowledge and skills, and emotion and communication that affects new nurses' socialization process. These elements go through processes of anticipatory socialization, encounter, change and acquisition. The Model was devised to induce effective Organizational Socialization results within 24 months of its implementation. The basic model is the most efficient and will also contribute to the development of knowledge in the body of nursing. Conclusion: This study will provide proper direction for new Nurse's Organizational Socialization. Therefore, developing an Organizational Socialization Process Model is meaningful in a sense that it could provide a framework that could create effective Organizational Socialization for new nurses.

  • The number of international passengers at Gimhae International Airport, the fourth-largest airport in Korea, is gradually increasing. This raised the need for a new airport in southeastern region, and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport decided to build a new runway for Gimhae International Airport. In this study, to predict the noise generated by a new runway, the noise analysis using the aviation environmental design tool (AEDT) of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was performed. In this paper, when a new runway was built at the Gimhae International Airport, an area of noise damage that is increasing than the present was predicted using arrival and departure data of airlines in a day.

  • The purpose of this study is to look at the concept of Gaebyeok as used by Kang Jeungsan (姜甑山) from a civilizational perspective. The combination of East Asian civilization during the period of Korea's port-opening and the subsequent inflow of Western powers with material civilization all at the forefront in the late Joseon Korea, served as the driving force for a new civilizational transition. Unlike the Chuk-sa Party and the Gae-hwa Party, modern Korean religions that emphasized Gaebyeok also responded to Western civilization and suggested a new view of civilization. Kang Jeung-san, resisting discrimination and oppression, presented a civilization built upon mutual beneficence while criticizing Western civilizations which centered on reason. Amid this process of the spread of modern Western civilization, Jeungsan declared the construction of a new civilization to the people who were negatively impacted by various social factions, such as class and gender discrimination, political corruption, exploitation via political corruption, and the inflow of Western powers. Jeungsanist Thought developed criticisms of materialism and human alienation, and this resulted in the claim of Gaebyeok. This was an expression of efforts to build a new civilization that aimed to harmonize, integrate, and thrive. The new civilization envisioned by Jeungsan was that of a society run according to mutual beneficence, and it can be summarized as a 'Civilization of Harmonious Union' that integrates philosophical thought and civilizational models of both East and West. This could also be referred to a 'Civilization of Public-commons and Harmony between Divine Beings and Human Beings (神人公共).' The life of Jeungsan was a life spent in the service of curing the world to save the lives of humanity. Since then, his 'movement of mutual beneficence' as observed in Mugeuk-do and Taegeuk-do were also efforts to build the new civilization envisioned by Jeungsan.

  • A new tri-aural ultrasonic sensor system is suggested to build more accurate world maps for mobile robots with less scanning. In ordinary single sensor systems, the inherent beam-width of sonar transmitter causes ambiguity in sensing direction. Dual sensors may be used to discriminate plane and corner with several scans. However, the proposed method uses triple sensors, and achieves more accuracy with less scanning.

  • This chapter presents an overview of Korean intonational structure and proposes a revised version of K -ToBI (Korean TOnes and Break Indices), a prosodic transcription convention for Seoul Korean. In the new version of K-ToBI, a tone tier is separated into two tiers: a phonological tone tier and a phonetic tone tier. A phonological tone tier labels tones marking the prosodic structure of an utterance, and a phonetic tone tier labels individual tones of an AP and an IP conforming to the surface pitch contour. Labelling surface tonal patterns will provide us data to test the underlying tonal patterns and to build phonetic implementation rules.

  • In modern applications of response data analysis, it has been found that there are stimuli which are independent for some com-binations of levels antagonistic for other and synergistic for some other combinations of levels. Obviously the classical models of stimuli re-sponse function fail to portray such inconsistent behaviour of the stim-uli. The classical model also fail to represent response functions of increasingly synergistic stimuli. Thus it has become necessary to build another type of models to represent relations of both synergistic and an-tagonistc for some combination of levels. This paper will propose a new model that can well explain such inconsistent behaviour of two jointly acting stimuli.
