  • In a robot/vision system, the vision sensor, typically a CCD array sensor, is mounted on the robot hand. The problem of determining the relationship between the camera frame and the robot hand frame is refered to as the hand-eye calibration. In the literature, various methods have been suggested to calibrate camera and for sensor registration. Recently, one-step approach which combines camera calibration and sensor registration is suggested by Horaud & Dornaika. In this approach, camera extrinsic parameters are not need to be determined at all configurations of robot. In this paper, by modifying the camera model and including the lens distortion effect in the perspective transformation matrix, a new one-step approach is proposed in the hand-eye calibration.

  • This paper presents a new approach for the evaluation of location marginal prices (LMPs) considering demand-side bidding (DSB) in a competitive electricity market. The stabilization of the electric power supply and demand balance is one of the major important activities in electric power industry. In this paper, we present an analytical method for calculation of LMPs considering DSB, which has opportunity to compete with generating units, as England & Wales Pool's DSB scheme[1]. Also, we propose a new approach that LMP considering DSB is divided into three components. The proposed approach can be used for the evaluation of demand-side bidding into the electricity market and the assessment of the influence of DSB on total production costs and LMPs as well as three components.

  • Excessive wavy surfaces formed by a cold or hot-rolling process in a thin plate degrade the value of the plate significantly, which is called flatness problem in the industry. It is a result of post-buckling due to the residual stress caused by the rolling process. A unique difficulty of the problem as a buckling problem is that the buckling length is not given but has to be found. a new approach is developed to solve the flatness problem by extending a classic post-buckling analysis method based on the energy principle. The approach determines the buckling length and amplitude. The new solution approach can be used to determine the condition for the maximum rolling production that does not cause the flatness problem.

  • This paper shows a new effective approach to measure crystallization temperature of soft magnetic underlayer (SUL) for next generation of heat assisted perpendicular recording media. This approach uses temperature dependent reflectivity, which shows a clear jump when samples are crystallized. To achieve this measurement, an optical system is set up using hot plate and infrared laser. Reflectivity of SUL $(Co_{70}Fe_{30})_{92}Ta_3Zr_5$ shows a clear jump at its amorphous-crystalline transition temperature. Experiment results show this effect is clear in infrared region, and is weak for visible light.

  • In this paper, we propose a new color interpolation method based on trilateral filter approach, which not only preserve the high-frequency components(image edge) while interpolating the missing raw data of color image(bayer data pattern), but also immune to the image noise components and better preserve the detail of the low-frequency components. The method is the trilateral filter approach applying a gradient to the low frequency components of the image signal in order to preserve the high-frequency components and the detail of the low-frequency components through the measure of the freedom of similarity among adjacent pixels. And also we perform Gaussian smoothing to the interpolated image data in order to robust to the noise. In this paper, we compare the conventional demosaicing algorithm and the proposed algorithm using 10 test images in terms of hue MAD, saturation MAD and CPSNR for the objective evaluation, and verify the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper proposes a new method to handle transmission line losses using loss distribution factors (LDF) rather than marginal loss factors (MLF) in electricity market operation. Under a competitive electricity market, the bidding data are adjusted to reflect transmission line losses. To date the most proposed approach is using MLFs. The MLFs are reflected to bidding prices and market clearing price during the trading and settlement of the electricity market. In the proposed algorithm, the LDFs are reflected to bidding quantities and actual generations/ loads. Computer simulations on a 9-bus sample system will verify the effectiveness of the algorithm proposed. Moreover, the proposed approach using LDFs does not make any payments residual while the approach using MLFs induces payments residual.

  • The superior hypogastric plexus block (SHPB) is used for treating pelvic pain, especially in patients with gynecological malignancies. Various approaches to this procedure have been reported due to the anatomic obstacles of a high iliac crest or large transverse process of the $5^{th}$ lumbar vertebra. Here, we report a new technique of superior hypogastric plexus block using a unilateral single-needle approach to block the bilateral superior hypogastric plexus with a Tuohy needle and epidural catheter. We have confidence that this new technique can be another option in performing the SHPB when the conventional bilateral approach is difficult to perform.

  • An approach has been developed to generate parametric models with Boolean operations. The approach combines Boolean operations and graph manipulation on the constraints imposed on primitives. A Boolean operation is first performed on two primitives and new geometric elements such as vertices and edges are computed. Then to generate the constraint graph of the polygon the each constraints graph of two primitives are merged by adding the new geometric elements with its corresponding constraints. In the merging process, some of the geometric elements belonging to the primitives may be eliminated based on its contribution to the polygon. A computer implementation in a 2D space is described to illustrate the approach with examples.

  • We present an alternative approach for satellite formation reconfiguration by an optimal impulsive-thrust strategy to minimize the total characteristic velocity in a near-circular-orbit. Linear transformation decouples the Hill-Clohessy-Wiltshire(HCW) dynamics into a new block-diagonal system matrix consisting of 1-dimensional harmonic oscillator and 2-dimensional subsystem. In contrast to a solution based on the conventional primer vector theory, the optimal solution and the necessary conditions are represented as times and directions of impulses. New analytical expression of the total characteristic velocity is found for each sub systems under general boundary conditions including transfer time constraint. To minimize the total characteristic velocity, necessary conditions for times and directions of impulses are analytically solved. While the solution to the 1-dimensional harmonic oscillator has been found, the solution to the 2-dimensional subsystem is currently under construction. Our approach is expected to be applicable to more challenging problems.
