Network function virtualization can significantly improve the flexibility and effectiveness of network appliances via a mapping process called service function chaining. However, the failure of any single virtualized network function causes the breakdown of the entire chain, which results in resource wastage, delays, and significant data loss. Redundancy can be used to protect network appliances; however, when failures occur, it may significantly degrade network efficiency. In addition, it is difficult to efficiently map the primary and backups to optimize the management cost and service reliability without violating the capacity, delay, and reliability constraints, which is referred to as the reliability-aware service chaining mapping problem. In this paper, a mixed integer linear programming formulation is provided to address this problem along with a novel online algorithm that adopts the joint protection redundancy model and novel backup selection scheme. The results show that the proposed algorithm can significantly improve the request acceptance ratio and reduce the consumption of physical resources compared to existing backup algorithms.

Network virtualization has been regarded as a core attribute of the Future Internet. In a network virtualization environment (NVE), multiple heterogeneous virtual networks can coexist on a shared substrate network. Thus, a substrate network failure may affect multiple virtual networks. In this case, it is increasingly critical to provide survivability for the virtual networks against the substrate network failures. Previous research focused on mechanisms that ensure the resilience of the virtual network. However, the resource efficiency is still important to make the mapping scheme practical. In this paper, we study the survivable virtual network embedding mechanisms against substrate link and node failure from the perspective of improving the resource efficiency. For substrate link survivability, we propose a load-balancing and re-configuration strategy to improve the acceptance ratio and bandwidth utilization ratio. For substrate node survivability, we develop a minimum cost heuristic based on a divided network model and a backup resource cost model, which can both satisfy the location constraints of virtual node and increase the sharing degree of the backup resources. Simulations are conducted to evaluate the performance of the solutions. The proposed load balancing and re-configuration strategy for substrate link survivability outperforms other approaches in terms of acceptance ratio and bandwidth utilization ratio. And the proposed minimum cost heuristic for substrate node survivability gets a good performance in term of acceptance ratio.

The number and size of resource constituting the web page has been increasing steadily, and this circumstance leads to rapidly falling quality of web service in mobile network that offer relatively higher delay. Moreover, Improving the quality of a web services protocol is difficult to provide network function because the current network architecture has closed structure. In this paper, we suggest schemes to enhance web performance in mobile network, which are Check Coded DOM scheme and Functional JavaScript Transmission scheme, and then try to seek idea which can be provided suggested schemes as a network function using NFV(Network Function Virtualization). For the performance evaluation and analysis about the suggested schemes, we perform network simulation using SMPL library. We confirm that suggested schemes offer better performance in term of page loading time, the number of message and the amount of traffic in the network than HTTP Protocol.

Recently virtualization becomes one of the most popular research topics. and a lot of software products which is related to virtualization have been released accordingly. Server virtualization, which virtualize physical servers to supply many virtual servers, provides very efficient way to build network-based servers. In this paper, we design and implement virtual desktop service which is based on server virtualization. We also propose load balancing scheme for the virtual desktop service. The proposed virtual desktop service and its load balancing scheme provides a cost-effective way to build high-performance remote desktop service.
To reduce management costs and improve performance, the European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI) introduced the concept of network function virtualization (NFV), which can implement network functions (NFs) on cloud/datacenters. Within the NFV architecture, NFs can share physical resources by hosting NFs on physical nodes (commodity servers). For network service providers who support NFV architectures, an efficient resource allocation method finds utility in being able to reduce operating expenses (OPEX) and capital expenses (CAPEX). Thus, in this paper, we analyzed the network service chain embedding problem via an optimization formulation and found a close-optimal solution based on the Markov approximation framework. Our simulation results show that our approach could increases on average CPU utilization by up to 73% and link utilization up to 53%.
Now, virtualization is no more emerging research area, and we can easily find its application in our circumstance. Nevertheless, I/O workloads are reluctant to be applied in virtual environment since they still suffer from unacceptable performance degradation due to virtualization latency. Many previous papers identified that virtual I/O overhead is mainly caused by exits and redundant I/O stack, and proposed several techniques to reduce them. However, they still have some limitations. In this paper, we introduce a novel I/O virtualization framework which improves I/O performance by exploiting multicore architecture. We applied our framework to the virtual network, and it improves TCP throughput up to 169%, and decreases UDP latency up to 38% on the network with the 10Gbps NIC.
In this paper, we focus on a novel Internet architecture, based on the urbanization of virtual machines. In this approach, virtual networks are built linking specific virtual elements (router, switch, firewall, box, access point, etc.). A virtual network represents a network with an independent protocol stack that shares resources from the underlying network infrastructure. Virtualization divides a real computational environment into virtual computational environments that are isolated from each other, and interact with the upper computational layer, as would be expected from a real, non-virtualized environment. Metamorphic networks enhance several concepts related to future networks, and mainly the urbanization of virtual machines. We present this new paradigm, and the methodology, based on the worldwide metamorphic network platform "M-Net". The metamorphic approach could solve many complex problems, especially related to Cloud computing services.

Tactical networks are evolving into an All-IP based network for network centric warfare(NCW). Owing to the flexibility of IP based network, various military data applications including real-time and multi-media services are being integrated in tactical networks. Because each application has diverse Quality-of-service(QoS) requirements, it is crucial to develop a QoS provisioning method for guaranteeing QoS requirements efficiently. Conventionally, differentiated services(DiffServ) have been used to provide a different level of QoS for traffic flows. However, DiffServ is not designed to guarantee a specific requirement of QoS such as delay, loss, and bandwidth. Therefore, it is not suitable for military applications with a tight bound of QoS requirements. In this paper, we propose a multi-layer network virtualization scheme that allocates traffic flows having different QoS requirements to multiple virtual networks, which are constructed to support different QoS policies such as virtual network functions(VNFs), routing, queueing/active queue management(AQM), and physical layer policy. The experiment results indicate that the proposed scheme achieves lower delays and losses through multiple virtual networks having differentiated QoS policies in comparison with conventional networks.

Cloud computing is a form which provides IT resources through network and pays the cost as much as you used. And it has advantages that it doesn't need to construct infrastructure and can be offered a variety of environments. The main core of these computing is virtualization technology. Security mechanism about attacks using vulnerabilities of virtualization technology isn't provided right and existing security tools can't be applied as it is. In this paper, we proposed honeyVM structure that can cope actively by collecting the information about attacks using virtualization vulnerability. Mamdani fuzzy inference is used to adjust dynamically the number of formed honeyVM depending on the load of system. Security structure to protect actual virtual machine from attacks and threats is proposed. The performance of the proposed structure in this paper measured occurred attack detection rate and resource utilization rate.

Currently, advanced national research network groups are continuously conducting R&D for the requirement to provide SDN/NFV-based network automation and intelligence technology for R&E users. In addition, the requirement for providing large-scale data transmission with the high performance networking facility, compared to general network environments, is gradually increasing in the advanced national research networks. Accordingly, in this paper, we propose an open API-based virtual network provisioning automation platform for large data transmission researched and developed to respond to the networking requirements of the national research network and present the implementation results. The platform includes the KREONET-S VDN system that provides SDN-based network virtualization technology, and the Kubernetes system that provides container-oriented server virtualization technology, and the Globus Online, a high-performance data transmission system. In this paper, the environment configurations, the system implemetation results for the interworking between the heterogeneous systems, and the automated virtual network provisioning implementation results are presented.
