A practical single photon source for fiber-based quantum information processing is still lacking. As a possible 1.55-㎛ quantum-dot single photon source, an InGaAsP/InP-air-aperture micropillar cavity is investigated in terms of fabrication tolerance. By properly modeling the processing uncertainty in layer thickness, layer diameter, surface roughness and the cavity shape distortion, the fabrication imperfection effects on the cavity quality are simulated using a finite-difference time-domain method. It turns out that, the cavity quality is not significantly changing with the processing precision, indicating the robustness against the imperfection of the fabrication processing. Under thickness error of ±2 nm, diameter uncertainty of ±2%, surface roughness of ±2.5 nm, and sidewall inclination of 0.5°, which are all readily available in current material and device fabrication techniques, the cavity quality remains good enough to form highly efficient and coherent 1.55-㎛ single photon sources. It is thus implied that a quantum dot contained InGaAsP/InP-air-aperture micropillar cavity is prospectively a practical candidate for single photon sources applied in a fiber-based quantum information network.

Leak detection is one of the most important challenges in condition monitoring of water pipelines. Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors offer an attractive technique to detect leak signals. In this paper, leak measurements were conducted on a water distribution pilot plant with a length of 270 m and a diameter of 100 mm. FBG sensors were installed on the pipeline surface and used to detect leak vibration signals. The leak was demonstrated with 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-mm diameter leak holes in four different pipe types. The frequency response of leak signals was analyzed by fast Fourier transform analysis in real time. In the experiment, the frequency range of leak signals was approximately 340-440 Hz. The frequency shifts of leak signals according to the pipe type and the size of the leak hole were demonstrated at a pressure of 1.8 bar and a flow rate of 25.51 m3/h. Results show that frequency shifts detected by FBG sensors can be used to detect leaks in pipelines.

In a split beam echo sounder, the transducer design needs to have minimal side lobes because the angular position and level of the side lobes establishes the usable signal level and phase angle limits for determining target strength. In order to suppress effectively the generation of unwanted side lobes in the directivity pattern of split beam transducer, the spacing and size of the transducer elements need to be controlled less than half of a wavelength. With this purpose, a 50 kHz tonpilz type transducer with a half-wavelength diameter in relation to the development of a split beam transducer was designed using the equivalent circuit model, and the underwater performance characteristics were measured and analyzed. From the in-air and in-water impedance responses, the measured value of the electro-acoustic conversion efficiency for the designed transducer was 51.6%. A maximum transmitting voltage response (TVR) value of 172.25dB re $1{\mu}Pa/V$ at 1m was achieved at 52.92kHz with a specially designed matching network and the quality factor was 10.3 with the transmitting bandwidth of 5.14kHz. A maximum receiving sensitivity (SRT) of -183.57dB re $1V/{\mu}Pa$ was measured at 51.45kHz and the receiving bandwidth at -3dB was 1.71kHz. These results suggest that the designed tonpilz type transducer can be effectively used in the development of a split beam transducer for a 50kHz fish sizing echo sounder.

In electric agricultural machine the gearbox is used to increase torque and lower the output speed of the motor shaft. The gearbox consists of several shafts, helical gears and spur gears works in series. Optimization plays an important role in gear design as reducing the weight or volume of a gear set will increase its service life and improve the bearing capacity. In this paper the basic design parameters for gear like shaft diameter and face width are considered as the input variables. The bending stress and material volume is considered as the objective function. ANSYS was used to investigate the bending stress when the variable was changed. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) was used to obtain the mathematical model of the system based on the bending stress behaviour. The ANN was used since the output system is nonlinear. The Genetic Algorithm (GA) technique of optimization is used to obtain the optimized values of shaft diameter and face width on the pinion based on the ANN mathematical model and the results are compared as that obtained using the traditional method. The ANN and GA were performed using MATLAB. The simulation results were shown that the proposed algorithm was successfully calculated the value of shaft diameter and face width to obtain the minimal bending stress and material volume of the gearbox.

In this paper, experiments were conducted on signal amplification of polymer capsules for application to Ground Penetrating Radar so as to enable real-time monitoring of polymer capsules inside concrete using the Morphology Dependent Resonance phenomenon. A TEM CELL and a vector network analyzer were used to analyze the difference in resonance frequency depending on the material of the sphere and the presence or absence of fracture. In order to manufacture a capsule of a size that can be measured using millimeter waves used in GPR, we manufactured a capsule with a 3D printer and analyzed the effects of the presence or absence of coating and the size of the capsule on the resonance frequency. Resonant frequency or signal amplification is more affected by diameter than coating. The capsule showing the highest amplification is the resin-coated 50 mm diameter capsule with a 316-fold increase and the lowest capsule is the uncoated 10 mm diameter capsule with a signal amplification of 11.9 times. These results demonstrate the potential of GPR to measure the position and state of self-healing capsules, which are small-sized polymers, in real time using millimeter waves.

This paper presents the identification of void diameters for a cast-resin transformer using an artificial neural network (ANN) model. A PD signal was measured by the Rogowski coil sensor which has the planar and thin structures fabricated on a printed circuit board (PCB), and the PD electrode system was fabricated to simulate a PD defect by a void. In addition, void samples with different diameters were fabricated by injecting air in a cylindrical aluminum frame using a syringe during the epoxy curing process. To identify the diameter of void defects, PD characteristics such as the discharge magnitude, pulse count, and phase angle were extracted and back propagation algorithm (BPA) was designed using virtual instrument (VI) based on the Labview program. From the experimental results, the BPA algorithm proposed in this paper has over 90% accurate rate to identify the diameter of void defects and is expected to use reference data of maintenance and replacement of insulation for cast-resin transformers in the on-site PD measurement.

Objective: To provide an automatic method for segmentation and diameter measurement of type B aortic dissection (TBAD). Materials and Methods: Aortic computed tomography angiographic images from 139 patients with TBAD were consecutively collected. We implemented a deep learning method based on a three-dimensional (3D) deep convolutional neural (CNN) network, which realizes automatic segmentation and measurement of the entire aorta (EA), true lumen (TL), and false lumen (FL). The accuracy, stability, and measurement time were compared between deep learning and manual methods. The intra- and inter-observer reproducibility of the manual method was also evaluated. Results: The mean dice coefficient scores were 0.958, 0.961, and 0.932 for EA, TL, and FL, respectively. There was a linear relationship between the reference standard and measurement by the manual and deep learning method (r = 0.964 and 0.991, respectively). The average measurement error of the deep learning method was less than that of the manual method (EA, 1.64% vs. 4.13%; TL, 2.46% vs. 11.67%; FL, 2.50% vs. 8.02%). Bland-Altman plots revealed that the deviations of the diameters between the deep learning method and the reference standard were -0.042 mm (-3.412 to 3.330 mm), -0.376 mm (-3.328 to 2.577 mm), and 0.026 mm (-3.040 to 3.092 mm) for EA, TL, and FL, respectively. For the manual method, the corresponding deviations were -0.166 mm (-1.419 to 1.086 mm), -0.050 mm (-0.970 to 1.070 mm), and -0.085 mm (-1.010 to 0.084 mm). Intra- and inter-observer differences were found in measurements with the manual method, but not with the deep learning method. The measurement time with the deep learning method was markedly shorter than with the manual method (21.7 ± 1.1 vs. 82.5 ± 16.1 minutes, p < 0.001). Conclusion: The performance of efficient segmentation and diameter measurement of TBADs based on the 3D deep CNN was both accurate and stable. This method is promising for evaluating aortic morphology automatically and alleviating the workload of radiologists in the near future.

The purpose of this study is to compare not only network influence of individual coauthor but also the types and properties of two coauthor networks of Communications for Statistical Applications and Methods and the Korean Journal of Applied Statistics which are published by the Korean Statistical Society using social network analysis. As the result of two network structure comparison, density, inclusiveness, reciprocity and clustering coefficient which represent the type of coauthor networks show almost similar values and the Korean Journal of Applied Statistics has bigger values in average degree, average distance and diameter because it has more nodes than Communications for Statistical Applications and Methods. Finally two journals have very similar type of coauthor network. In the comparison of network centrality of two coauthor networks, closeness centrality and betweenness centrality of the Korean Journal of Applied Statistics are bigger than those of Communications for Statistical Applications and Methods at the statistical significance level 0.05. The coauthor network of the Korean Journal of Applied Statistics has faster information delivery and stronger betweenness than that of Communications for Statistical Applications.
Epidemiological studies have shown the association between transportation of live animals and the potential transmission of infectious disease between premises. This finding was also observed in the 2014-2015 foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreak in Korea. Furthermore, slaughterhouses played a key role in the global spread of the FMD virus during the epidemic. In this context, in-depth knowledge of the structure of direct and indirect contact between slaughterhouses is paramount for understanding the dynamics of FMD transmission. But the social network structure of vehicle movements to slaughterhouses in Korea remains unclear. Hence, the aim of this study was to configure a social network topology of vehicle movements between slaughterhouses for a better understanding of how they are potentially connected, and to explore whether FMD outbreaks can be explained by the network properties constructed in the study. We created five monthly directed networks based on the frequency and chronology of on- and off-slaughterhouse vehicle movements. For the monthly network, a node represented a slaughterhouse, and an edge (or link) denoted vehicle movement between two slaughterhouses. Movement data were retrieved from the national Korean Animal Health Integrated System (KAHIS) database, which tracks the routes of individual vehicle movements using a global positioning system (GPS). Electronic registration of livestock movements has been a mandatory requirement since 2013 to ensure traceability of such movements. For each of the five studied networks, the network structures were characterized by small-world properties, with a short mean distance, a high clustering coefficient, and a short diameter. In addition, a strongly connected component was observed in each of the created networks, and this giant component included 94.4% to 100% of all network nodes. The characteristic hub-and-spoke type of structure was not identified. Such a structural vulnerability in the network suggests that once an infectious disease (such as FMD) is introduced in a random slaughterhouse within the cohesive component, it can spread to every other slaughterhouse in the component. From an epidemiological perspective, for disease management, empirically derived small-world networks could inform decision-makers on the higher potential for a large FMD epidemic within the livestock industry, and could provide insights into the rapid-transmission dynamics of the disease across long distances, despite a standstill of animal movements during the epidemic, given a single incursion of infection in any slaughterhouse in the country.

The structural state of a bridge is currently examined by visual inspection or by wired sensor techniques, which are relatively expensive, vulnerable to inclement conditions, and time consuming to undertake. In contrast, wireless sensor networks are easy to deploy and flexible in application so that the network can adjust to the individual structure. Different sensing techniques have been used with such networks, but the acoustic emission technique has rarely been utilized. With the use of acoustic emission (AE) techniques it is possible to detect internal structural damage, from cracks propagating during the routine use of a structure, e.g. breakage of prestressing wires. To date, AE data analysis techniques are not appropriate for the requirements of a wireless network due to the very exact time synchronization needed between multiple sensors, and power consumption issues. To unleash the power of the acoustic emission technique on large, extended structures, recording and local analysis techniques need better algorithms to handle and reduce the immense amount of data generated. Preliminary results from utilizing a new concept called Acoustic Emission Array Processing to locally reduce data to information are presented. Results show that the azimuthal location of a seismic source can be successfully identified, using an array of six to eight poor-quality AE sensors arranged in a circular array approximately 200 mm in diameter. AE beamforming only requires very fine time synchronization of the sensors within a single array, relative timing between sensors of $1{\mu}s$ can easily be performed by a single Mote servicing the array. The method concentrates the essence of six to eight extended waveforms into a single value to be sent through the wireless network, resulting in power savings by avoiding extended radio transmission.
