  • A service restoration is one of the most important missions in distribution system operation. This paper proposes a multi-agent system approach to distribution system restoration. Every relay is developed as an agent by adding its own intelligent, self-tuning and communication ability. Relay agent calculates and corrects its restoration index by itself through communication with neighboring agents and its own intelligence. The proposed algorithm is applied to a simple network to show how to calculate restoration index. Keywords Multi-Agent System, Service Restoration, Distribution Networks

  • This study examines the consequent impact which Cheonggyechoen restoration project of Seoul makes on pedestrian network structure around the inner city, especially in terms of sustainable developments and the city's balanced development. It identifies variation of Global Integration and Local Integration of the pedestrian networks which is compared by before and after conditions with east-west and south-north walking axis by using Space Syntax. The results show respectively different set of Global and Local Integration. First, Global Integration shows high performance along the east-west axis, while pedestrian spatial networking is balancing through Donhwamunno and Samillo. Second, Local Integration illustrates both performance along both the east-west axis and the south-north axis after restoration of network. It is primarily concentrated in Taepyeongno$\sim$Samillo section(business and commercial-centered) before the restoration. In addition, total integration is holistically improved while the networking in Samillo$\sim$Baeogaegil section(the instrument shopping streets) if almost same as one another Moreover, in Baeogaegil$\sim$Dongdaemun Stadium section(market-centered), the connectivity of Cheonggyechoenro is improved after the restoration. All in all, Cheonggyechoen restoration project of Seoul allows traffics to be equally accessible from the east-west axis and the south-north axis and contributes to the connectivity improvement of the east-west axis as well as the south-north axis.

Abstract A cost evaluation of protection scheme for VP-based ATM network is presented here and its related characteristics are evaluated. The proposed and evaluated scheme is a state-independent restoration scheme using a disjoint path group. For fast and simple restoration of failed connections, link disjoint or node disjoint VP groups (DVPG) were utilized in this paper. A VP assignment and capacity planning problem is formulated. When failure occurs, the failed working VPs are switched to the protection VPs of disjoint path groups with a simple restoration scheme. And, cost evaluation and restoration characteristics are presented. The consideration of multiple QoS (Quality of Service) levels and disjoint path group protection scheme require additional network cost but acquire fit and fast restoration.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the restoration effect in the restored Yangjae stream and to draw up an adaptive management plan based on the results. As the result of evaluation on the restoration effect, the restored Yangjae stream was evaluated with low naturalness in both terms of the morphology of the stream and the composition and spatial distribution of vegetation. The diverse functional groups were introduced in the vegetation restoration, but the flooding regime, which is significant in the spatial distribution of riparian vegetation, were not correctly reflected. Exotic species or species that were not ecologically suitable for the location were introduced on the embankment and thus a measure to improve those problems is required. As the ecological principle was not reflected in the restoration plan, the stream was constructed as the double terrace structure. Therefore, the width of the waterway was narrowed further, and the waterfront was not designed to accommodate changes from flooding disturbance, making the micro-topography of the stream simpler and the naturalness lower. The adaptive management plan was prepared to improve those problems, and a plan for creating an ecological network was recommended to enhance the restoration effect.

  • We propose a new MPLS restoration scheme that uses network resources more efficiently and minimizes the backup path cost effectively. Contrary to other restoration strategies, the proposed restoration scheme starts the recovery action at the selected node of a working LSP. At LSP setup, the working and backup path cost is evaluated and the starting node of restoration is designated. By doing so, the restoration speed could be further increased and resource utilization could be maximized. We simulated the proposed scheme and compared with other restoration and protection schemes. The result shows that our scheme can provide fast restoration with acceptable delay and loss characteristics.

  • Given the structure of Korean mountains, it is more appropriate to apply the relative elevation method than the absolute elevation method. However, so far there were not suitable quantitative methodologies to analyze relative elevation, these analytical concepts were difficult to be utilized in urban environmental planning. This study suggested three methods for analyzing relative elevation, and one method for setting the analytical scope of relative elevation by calculating terrain relief. The results showed that the procedure considering 500m radius of each point and standardizing to 30% of the 7th height ridge was the most effective method to extract the local topography. This methodology is the quantitative tool to be able to conserve local important hills and ridges, and apply to fields of urban environmental planning and ecological restoration, especially urban ecological network.

  • Earthquake disaster frequently happens in Shizuoka Prefecture and it is commonly predicted that a giant earthquake(Tokai Earthquake) could occur in the near future. When a giant earthquake happens, extensive damage of lifelines will be expected. It is considered that the collection of damage information and the establishment of a communication network system are very important in order to restore lifelines quickly. And geographic information system(GIS) might playa very important role to grasp the spatial information of lifeline damage in a natural disaster. The authors' group had a research project to study a lifeline restoration support system with image processing and ad hoc networking in a natural disaster. The objectives of this presentation are to introduce our project and to show some results of our study. The authors finally constructed the GIS for the integration of damage information acquired by image processing and ad hoc networking.

  • Although image compression is one of the essential technologies to transmit image data on a variety of surveillance and mobile healthcare applications, it causes unnecessary compression artifacts such as blocking and ringing artifacts by the lossy compression in the limited network bandwidth. Recently, image restoration methods using convolutional neural network (CNN) show the significant improvement of image quality from the compressed images. In this paper, we propose Image Denoising Convolutional Neural Networks (IDCNN) to reduce the compression artifacts for the purpose of improving the performance of object classification. In order to evaluate the classification accuracy, we used the ImageNet test dataset consisting of 50,000 natural images and measured the classification performance in terms of Top-1 and Top-5 accuracy. Experimental results show that the proposed IDCNN can improve Top-1 and Top-5 accuracy as high as 2.46% and 2.42%, respectively.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient reference-based compression artifact reduction network for 360-degree images in an equi-rectangular projection (ERP) domain. In our insight, conventional image restoration methods cannot be applied straightforwardly to 360-degree images due to the spherical distortion. To address this problem, we propose an adaptive disparity estimator using a deformable convolution to exploit correlation among 360-degree images. With the help of the proposed convolution, the disparity estimator establishes the spatial correspondence successfully between the ERPs and extract matched textures to be used for image restoration. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides reliable high-quality textures from the reference and improves the quality of the restored image as compared to the state-of-the-art single image restoration methods.

  • This paper proposes a method of restoring corrupted depth image captured by depth camera through unsupervised learning using generative adversarial network (GAN). The proposed method generates restored face depth images using 3D morphable model convolutional neural network (3DMM CNN) with large-scale CelebFaces Attribute (CelebA) and FaceWarehouse dataset for training deep convolutional generative adversarial network (DCGAN). The generator and discriminator equip with Wasserstein distance for loss function by utilizing minimax game. Then the DCGAN restore the loss of captured facial depth images by performing another learning procedure using trained generator and new loss function.
