  • Camera calibration is a procedure which calculates internal and external parameters of a camera with the Down world coordinates of the control points. Accurate camera calibration is required for achieving accurate visual measurements. In this paper, we propose a simple and flexible camera calibration using neural networks which doesn't require a special knowledge of 3D geometry and camera optics. There are some applications which are not in need of the values of the internal and external parameters. The proposed method is very useful to these applications. Also, the proposed camera calibration has advantage that resolves the ill-condition as object plane is near parallel image plane. The ill-condition is frequently met in product inspection. For little more accurate calibration, acquired image is divided into two regions according to radial distortion of lens and neural network is applied to each region. Experimental results and comparison with Tsai's algorithm prove the validity of the proposed camera calibration.

  • The pyranometer for observing the solar radiation reaching the surface of the earth is manufactured by various companies around the world. The sensitivity of the pyranometer at the observatory is required to be properly controlled based on the reference value of the World Radiometric Center (WRC) and the observatory environment; otherwise, the observational data may be subject to a large error. Since the sensitivity of the pyranometer can be calibrated in an indoor or outdoor calibration, this study used a CSTMUSS-4000C Integrating Sphere by Labsphere Inc. (USA) to calibrate the sensitivity of CMP22 pyranometer by Kipp&Zonen Inc. (Netherlands). Consequently, the factory sensitivity of CMP22 was corrected from $8.68{\mu}V{\cdot}(Wm^{-2})^{-1}$ to $8.98{\mu}V{\cdot}(Wm^{-2})^{-1}$, and the result from the outdoor calibration according to the observatory environment was $8.90{\mu}V{\cdot}(Wm^{-2})^{-1}$. After the indoor calibration of the pyranometer sensitivity, the root mean square error (RMSE) of the observational data at the observatory on a clear day without clouds (July 13, 2017) was $7.11Wm^{-2}$ in comparison to the reference pyranometer. After the outdoor calibration of the pyranometer sensitivity based on these results, the RMSE of the observational data was $1.74Wm^{-2}$ on the same day. Periodic inspections are required because the decrease of sensitivity over time is inevitable in the pyranometer data produced at the observatory. The initial sensitivity after indoor calibration ($8.98{\mu}V{\cdot}(Wm^{-2})^{-1}$) is important, and the sensitivity after outdoor calibration ($8.90{\mu}V{\cdot}(Wm^{-2})^{-1})$ can be compared to the data at the Baseline Surface Radiation Network (BSRN) or can be used for various studies and daily applications.

  • In most shipyards, the measurement of 3-dimensional relative position of pipes should be connected in the block depends on the manual operation. It results a very tedious and inefficient procedure, thus the proper measurement system is needed to improve productivity and accuracy. This paper describes the development of pipe measurement system including system concepts, measuring procedures, system calibration, and its accuracy and productivity. And also, the possibility and things to be improved for application in shipyard are discussed in this paper.

  • In this paper, we propose a horizontal/vertical calibration kit for calibrating a vector network analyzer(VNA) to measure the vertical connector pin. If the conventional calibration kit is used, we should change the arm for a probe or need an assistant device and it takes a long time. In addition there is a risk of precision degradation caused by the position change of the probe tip sensitive to the surroundings. We suggest a 4-port vertical calibration kit to make up for the aforementioned shortcomings. The calibration kit was manufactured for the SOLT calibration method. 'Short', 'Open', and 'Load' are available in the horizontal plane, 'Thru' is available not only in the horizontal plane on the two planes of a PCB, but in the vertical plane between the two planes according to the positions of the probes. We complemented the conventional calibration kit to make a vertical calibration kit to be used for the vertical measurement method. We compared and analysed their reflection/transfer characteristics of the SOLT calibration standards of the proposed calibration kit and conventional one, we get a ${\pm}0.1$ dB differences of transfer characteristics in the range from 300 kHz to 8.5 GHz. In order to demonstrate usefulness, and we performed a case study for horizontal and vertical cases, and compared the results of the proposed calibration kit and conventional one.

  • In this paper, PSD(Position Sensitive Detector) sensor system that estimates position for moving objects in 2D plane is developed. PSD sensor is used to measure the position of an incidence light in real-time. To get the position of light source of moving target, a new parameter calibration algorithm and neural network technique are proposed and applied. Real-time position measurements of the mobile robot with light source is examined to validate the proposed method. It is shown that the proposed technique provides accurate position estimation of the moving object.

  • This paper presents calibration of flush air data sensing systems during ascent period of a satellite launch vehicle. Aerodynamic results are numerically computed by solving three-dimensional time dependent compressible Euler equations over a payload shroud of a satellite launch vehicle. The flush air data system consists of four pressure ports flushed on a blunt-cone section of the payload shroud and connected to on board differential pressure transducers. The inverse algorithm uses calibration charts which are based on computed and measured data. A controlled random search method coupled with neural network technique is employed to estimate pitch and yaw angles from measured transient differential pressure history. The algorithm predicts the flow direction stepwise with the function of flight Mach numbers and can be termed as an online method. Flow direction of the launch vehicle is compared with the reconstructed trajectory data. The estimated values of the flow direction are in good agreement with them.

  • In this paper, we evaluate the performance of a noncoherent OOK (On-Off Keying) UWB (Ultra Wide Band) system based on power detection with noise power calibration and noise power windowing for ubiquitous sensor network applications in typical indoor wireless channels. Utilizing noise power calibration and noise power windowing, the current noise information can be initially or adaptively provided to determine suitable detection threshold value for signal demodulation. Simulation results show that the noncoherent OOK UWB system using noise power calibration achieves good BER (Bit Error Rate) performance which is favorably comparable to that of the system using the ideal adaptive threshold, while maintaining simple receiver structure. However, despite the serious loss of the data transmission rate, the performance improvement by noise power windowing is not so remarkable. furthermore, these performance results are similarly maintained in BEE 802.15 Task Group 3a UWB indoor channel model, and it is also revealed that the BER performance can be significantly improved by increasing the pulse repetition rate.

  • Ths signal processing technqiue of FET type electrolyte sensors using the back propagation neural network was studied to reduce the interference effects of the different electrolytes. The FET-type electrolyte sensors, pH-ISFET, K-ISFET, and Ca-ISFET, were prepared to measure the pH, K, and Ca electrolytes. Neural network consisted of three layers was learned with 8 patterns and 9 patterns. The sensor output obtained with arbitrary concentrations was processed by the learned neural network. The errors obtained from calibration curve for pH, K, and Ca were .+-.0.039 pH, .+-.2.508 mmol/l, and .+-.1.807 mmol/l, respectively, without considering the interference effects. The errors of the network output for pH, K, and Ca were reduced to .+-.0.005 pH, .+-.0.436 mmol/l, and .+-.0.381 mmol/l in case of 9 patterns, respectively. the signal processing using the neural network can reduce the errors ofthe electrolyte sensor outputs caused by the interference effect, thereby providing effectiveness in the improvement of the sensor selectivity.

  • Particle Image Thermometry(PIT) with liquid crystal tracers is used for visualizing and analysis of the bubbly flow in a vertical temperature gradient. Quantitative data of the temperature were obtained by applying the color-image processing to a visualized image, and neural-network was applied to the color-to-temperature calibration. This paper describes the method, and presents the transient mixing temperature patterns of the bubbly flow.
