  • As a part of basic investigation to Fishery Purge Project for the Special Administrative in Chollanamdo Province, the sedimentary environmental characteristics of Yoja Bay at 15 stations were studied. The analysis was carried out in July, 1998, through studies of Loss On Ignition (LOI) by depth, Total Sulfide (T-5), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) concentrations and Grain-size distribution. The LOI value was found to be 6.20-12.20% (mean of 8.89%), with the neighboring Sunhakri and Haksanri areas showing slightly higher values. These values were similar to the LOI values observed in the Hansan-Koje Bay and Jinju Bay areas on the southern coast of Korea. T-S and COD concentrations were found to be, respectively, 0.060-0.104 mg/gㆍd (mean of 0.052 mg/gㆍd) and 5.53-29.71 mg/gㆍd(mean of 13.24 mg/gㆍd), not exceeding eutrophication limits. T-S concentration was especially high at stations close to the central areas of the bay and inland areas, which caused by organic matter input from the nearby agricultural areas. COD concentration was very high at stations nearby the bay entrance and Doonbyungdo, but the mean value was lower than that of Hansan-Koje Bay. This leads us to believe that the level of pollution in Yoja Bay is not significant. The prevailing sediment composition was mud, consisting of 61.38% silt and 34.87% clay. • For the identifying of spatial distribution pattern, Moran's Index(I) which has the range of values from -1 to +1 is common method for the spatial autocorrelation measurement. When I is close to 1, all neighboring features have close to the same value, indicating clustered pattern. Conversely, if the spatial pattern is dispersed, I is close to -1. And I closing to 0 means spatially random pattern. However, this index equation is influenced by how defining the neighboring features for target feature. To compare and understand the difference of neighborhood definition methods, fixed distance neighboring method and Gabriel Network method were used for I. In this study, these two methods were applied to two marine environments with water quality data. One is Gwangyang Bay which has complex geometric coastal structure located in South Sea of Korea. Another is Uljin area adjacent to open sea located in east coast of Korea. The distances between water quality observed locations were relatively regular in Gwangyang Bay, however, irregular in Uljin area. And for the fixed distance method popular Arc GIS tool was used, but, for the Gabriel Network, Visual Basic program was developed to produce Gabriel Network and calculate Moran's I and its Z-score automatically. According to this experimental results, different spatial pattern was showed differently for some data with using of neighboring definition methods. Therefore there is need to choose neighboring definition method carefully for spatial pattern analysis.

  • If there are containers stacked upon the container to be fetched out of a container yard to vessel, rehandling which moves those containers to other places temporarily is needed. In order to avoid such rehandling, remarshalling which rearranges containers should be done before the vessel arrives. The remarshalling plan is commonly generated within a bay. It happens, however, that the generation of the intra-bay remarshalling plan within the permitted time is not possible because of bad stacking conditions. This paper presents the remarshalling algorithm which uses the empty slots of the neighboring bay as a temporary storage space. Simulation experiments have shown that the presented algorithm can generate the remarshalling plan within the permitted time under any staking conditions.

  • Purpose - Loading can decrease the productivity due to the possibility of carrying out with the opposite order of storage in container terminal. When the container is to be taken out, it is needed to move the container stacked upon the container to be carried out to other place temporarily. It is called as rehandling. Remarshalling, with the loading plan, is the arranging the containers before the ship arrives in order to avoid the rehandling during the carrying out. The present study tried to find out the factors affecting the efficiency when building the remarshalling plan with the utilization of neighboring storage space as a outer slot, and analyzed the efficiency of several remarshalling algorithms with the combination of those factors. Research design, data and methodology - The present study used, when the remarshalling plan is prepared for utilizing the outer slot, the simulation methods in order to compare the efficiency of the remarshalling algorithms which made with the factors affecting the efficiency. The factors affecting the efficiency are the method of making the child node, method of arrangement, and possibility of application of FIX. In order to analyze the affecting factors on the efficiency, several algorithms are prepared with the combination of production of the child node and the arrangement method with the availability of FIX application. With this algorithm, the effect of the factors on the efficiency after building up of remarshalling plan with the target on the bay with 10 rows, 8 columns, and 10 indices. Results - The method of rearrangement and making of a child node as the factor affecting the efficiency of remarshalling utilization of the outer bay were studied. It is efficient to combine the method of making a child node with MCS in order to reduce the number of moving the containers. For reducing the time in carrying out, it was found that all arrangement methods should be combined with RCS for the efficiency. The result of experiment shows the application of FIX with good result in case of succession ratio. In addition, when FIX was not applied, all of the most combinations resulted in short time in remarshalling. As a result, it can be concluded that the algorithm with proper combination of making the child node and the arrangement can increase the job efficiency based on the importance. Conclusion - The present study suggested and analyzed the algorithms with the combination of the arrangement method, the making of child node, and FIX. It is needed to develop the algorithm to judge the possibility whether the best remarshalling plan can be built or not within the bay in order to find a better method between the two cases such as within the bay and outer the bay. As a method for extending the study on the factors affecting the efficiency, it is possible to find out the way to build the remarshalling plan within the permitted time under any storage situation.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the structure and use change of the private space according to the balcony expansion and use it as the data of plan design. According to Bay, front length/width ratio and the change of balcony space before and after expansion of space organization of house units were analyzed. Common characteristics of Flat type and Tower type are an increase of the frontage length of house units in an apartment, an increase of the number of front bay, and an increase of integrated LDK focusing on living room. A difference is that Flat type shows high frontage ratio, Bay figure, and spatial arrangement favorable to front openness and lighting. Flat type shows higher area distribution than Tower type in LDK area distribution located in at the plane center. Spatial expandability and visual openness of Flat type are more beneficial than those of Tower type in the planning, and a balcony extension of house units has developed to direction to open more. Tower type creates various block images through a combination of house units focusing on the core. Uses after balcony expansion are area expansion of a balcony-neighboring room, storage space, expansion and function improvement of the variable range, and specialized space different from a neighboring room. In addition, there is no escapable space except for a shelter, so unit plan should be prepared to prevent using it other space of a shelter and to solve moving line of two-way horizontal refuge and vertical refuge.

  • The reared fries of black sea bream, Acanthopagrus schlegeli were released in Gamak Bay and initial adaptation to the environment was evaluated. Thirty thousand fries were marked with magnetic tag, released and recaptured and its stomach content were analysed; the neighboring zooplankton, beuthic algae and other young fishes were investigated. The fries were released on July 30, 2001 in summer season. Water temperature of surface and bottom were $24^{\circ}C\;and\;21^{\circ}C,$ respectively. $Chlorophyll\;\alpha$ content was 4.5 ${\mu}g/L$ with high primary production. Salinity was $32.0-32.5\%_{\circ}.$ Water depth of releasing site was about 30 m. The sea jungle was formed at the first point of releasing and it kept the fries for about 3 days in the bay with plenty of food organisms within 5 m depth. Stomach analysis of the fries revealed that real feeding started from the 15 days after releasing and full feeding took place after the tenth day.

  • A study has been made on the hydrodynamic forces on and the motion response of a sliding block in a bay within the framework of linear potential theory. To simplify the problem, following assumptions are made : The configuration of the bay is a long channel with narrow width, constant depth and straight coastline. Incident waves are long compared to the depth. We applied matched asymptotic expansion techniques. The flued domain is subdivided into three regions ; ocean, bay entrance, bay regions. Boundary-vague problems are solved first in each region. Then unknown coefficients are determined by matching individual solutions at the intermediate region between two neighboring legions. It is found that the motion of the block is greatly amplified at the resonant frequencies, in particular at the quarter wavelength mode. We examined the mechanism of negative added mass, which results from the localized hydrodynamic resonance.

  • Development and distribution of larval Dungeness crab, Cancer magister Dana, 1852 were investigated in southeastern Alaska from late May to mid-September in 2004. Larvae were collected during daylight hours at three inner and two outer Glacier Bay stations at the two different depths in the water column, above and below the thermocline. Larval density decreased dramatically for three larval stages, zoeae I(ZI), zoeae IV, and zoeae V(ZV), but relatively little for zoeae II and zoeae III. ZI predominated at all stations in late May and were collected until late July. Larval stages progressed seasonally from ZI to ZV and density decreased from ZI through ZV. The densities of each zoeal stage at the inner and outer bay stations and at the shallow and deep depths were similar. The density of each larval stage above(shallow) and below(deep) the thermocline and between inner and outer bay stations were not significantly different. The occurrence of larval Dungeness crab is dramatically later than in other parts of the species range, in that larvae appear in abundance beginning in late May. The pattern of spatial distribution of larval stages for the inland waters of Alaska was also markedly different than the patterns reported for Dungeness crab larvae from other parts of the species range, in that the early and intermediate stages occurred within inland waters; from British Columbia to California these larval stages increase in abundance with distance offshore.

  • The present study examines how to construct a transport system for tourism in the marine city area of Yeosu. An effective tourism transport system is needed in Yeosu to promote ocean tourism in Korea's southern coastal region. The problems in Yeosu's transport system for ocean tourism were identified by comparing it with the Bay Area in the United States; future improvement methods were deduced accordingly. The transport support system for ocean tourism in Yeosu area was insufficient in many aspects compared with the Bay Area, such as intercity transportation, urban transport systems, and transport information systems. Thus, this study suggests various approaches to building a new ocean tourism transport support system in Yeosu. Connecting transport modes and ocean tourism resources, such as linking intercity and urban transport modes with ocean tourism transport modes, is suggested. It is also recommended that a cooperative transport support system be established for ocean tourism in the neighboring regions of Yeosu. Furthermore, an integrated transport information system for ocean tourism needs to be provided to connect the system efficiently with ocean tourists. This integrated transport support system could lead to a decrease in the cost and time needed for travel.

  • Chlorophyll a content in marine phytoplankton and nutrient in seawater were determined to study the influence of eutrophication of Jinhae Bay area on primary production. Sampels were taken in the surface layer and bottom of 21 stations in Jinhae Bay including Masan Bay and Hengam Bay, ana adjacent waters such as Geoje Bay and the estuary of Naktong River for refrence during summer Period in 1974. Chlorophyll a content was ranged from $0.52\;mg/m^3\;to\;25.16\;mg/m^3$ in whole area. Mean value of chlorophyll a was the highest in Masan Bay and the lowest in GeojeBay. It was noteworthy that chlorophyll a content of Hengam Bay was not much higher than that of neighboring ares and rather lower than that of the estuary of Naktong River in spite of high phosphate content. Linear relationship between increase of nutrients and chlorophyll a was found in Masan Bay and the estuary of Naktong River where N/P ratio of nutrients was over 12. This relationship however could not be found in most area of Jinhae Bay where N/P ratio of nutrients was lower than 2 which might due to the wastewater from the Chemical Fertilizer plant. Red tide and low dissolved oxygen waters due to eutrophication were observed during summer period in Masan Bay.
