한국어 시각단어재인에서 나타나는 이웃효과 (The Neighborhood Effect in Korean Visual Word Recognition)

  • We investigated whether the first syllable plays an important role in lexical access in Korean visual word recognition. To do so, one lexical decision task (LDT) and two form primed LDT experiments examined the nature of the syllabic neighborhood effect. In Experiment 1, the syllabic neighborhood density and the syllabic neighborhood frequency was manipulated. The results showed that lexical decision latencies were only influenced by the syllabic neighborhood frequency. The purpose of experiment 2 was to confirm the results of experiment 1 with form-primed LDT task. The lexical decision latency was slower in form-related condition compared to form-unrelated condition. The effect of syllabic neighborhood density was significant only in form-related condition. This means that the first syllable plays an important role in the sub-lexical process. In Experiment 3, we conducted another form-primed LDT task manipulating the number of syllabic neighbors in words with higher frequency neighborhood. The interaction of syllabic neighborhood density and form relation was significant. This result confirmed that the words with higher frequency neighborhood are more inhibited by neighbors sharing the first syllable than words with no higher frequency neighborhood in the lexical level. These findings suggest that the first syllable is the unit of neighborhood and the unit of representation in sub-lexical representation is syllable in Korea.

  • This paper examined two hypotheses. Firstly, if the first syllable of word play an important role in visual word recognition, it may be the unit of word neighbor. Secondly, if the first syllable is the unit of lexical access, the neighborhood size effect and the neighborhood frequency effect would appear in a lexical decision task and a form primed lexical decision task. We conducted two experiments. Experiment 1 showed that words had large neighbors made a inhibitory effect in the LDT(lexical decision task). Experiment 2 showed the interaction between the neighborhood frequency effectand the word form similarity in the form primed LDT. We concluded that the first syllable in Korean words might be the unit of word neighborhood and play a central role in a lexical access.

  • A study was carried out to investigate the fluid-structure interaction phenomena of buried hydrophone system that exposed complex loads due to handling, transportation and installation. The buried hydrophone system has necessarily neighborhood structures for installation. Because of the neighborhood structure, acoustic field is deformed. We analyze the piezoelectric-structural-acoustic coupled problem and the results to use a finite element analysis software, ANSYS, which has an coupled field analysis capability. The effect of the component of hydrophone system is revealed altogether in pressure distribution. So, we classify and analyze the problem by four different compositions for decomposition.

불규칙 가진력을 받는 동흡진기의 내부공진효과 (Influence of Internal Resonance on Responses of an Autoparametric Vibration Absorber under Random Excitation)

  • The main objectives of this study are to examine the random response of a vibration absorber system with autoparametric coupling in the neighborhood of internal resonance by Gaussian closure and to compare the results with those obtained by Monte Carlo simulation. The numerical simulation is found to support the main features of the nonlinear modal interaction in the neighborhood of internal resonance conditions. While the Gaussian closure exhibits regions of multiple solutions in the neighborhood of internal resonance, the numerical simulation gives only one solution depending on the assigned initial conditions. The on-off intermittency phenomena of the cantilever mode is observed in the Monte Carlo simulation over a small range of parameter.

사회경제적 수준이 청소년 우울감에 미치는 영향: 다층잠재성장모형을 적용하여 (The Effect of Socioeconomic Status to Change in Adolescent Depression: A Multilevel Latent Growth Analysis)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine change in adolescent depression across time and to determine the relation between individual and neighborhood socioeconomic status (SES) and depression. Methods: This study employed multilevel latent growth analysis using longitudinal data from Korea Children and Youth Panel Survey. A sample of this study consists of 2,351 adolescents who were in first grade of middle school in 2010. Results: Results showed that both initial level and downward trajectory of depression varied significantly across individuals as well as across neighborhoods. On the individual level, self-rated economic condition(b=-0.203, p<.001) was related to the initial level of depression. Adolescents whose father had a high educational level(b=0.028, p<.001) or whose mother had a low educational level(b=-0.022, p=.011) had lower rates of decline in adolescent depression. On the neighborhood level, neighborhood deprivation index (b=0.003, p=.019) and gini coefficient(b=0.124, p=.040) were associated with lower rates of decline in depression. Conclusions: Low SES in adolescence is correlated with worse mental health, especially depression. Social disparities in depression likely originate before adulthood. The findings argue for the importance of understanding depression in adolescence from a multilevel or ecological framework.

CRF-Based Figure/Ground Segmentation with Pixel-Level Sparse Coding and Neighborhood Interactions

  • In this paper, we propose a new approach to learning a discriminative model for figure/ground segmentation by incorporating the bag-of-features and conditional random field (CRF) techniques. We advocate the use of image patches instead of superpixels as the basic processing unit. The latter has a homogeneous appearance and adheres to object boundaries, while an image patch often contains more discriminative information (e.g., local image structure) to distinguish its categories. We use pixel-level sparse coding to represent an image patch. With the proposed feature representation, the unary classifier achieves a considerable binary segmentation performance. Further, we integrate unary and pairwise potentials into the CRF model to refine the segmentation results. The pairwise potentials include color and texture potentials with neighborhood interactions, and an edge potential. High segmentation accuracy is demonstrated on three benchmark datasets: the Weizmann horse dataset, the VOC2006 cow dataset, and the MSRC multiclass dataset. Extensive experiments show that the proposed approach performs favorably against the state-of-the-art approaches.

Modal Interactions in an Autoparametric Vibration Absorber to Narrow Band Random Excitation

  • The main objectives of this study are to examine the random responses of a vibration absorber system with autoparametric coupling in the neighborhood of internal resonance subjected to narrow band random excitation by Gaussian closure scheme and to compare the results with those obtained by Monte Carlo simulation. The Monte Carlo simulation is found to support the main features of the nonlinear modal interaction in the neighborhood of internal resonance conditions. The jump phenomenon of the cantilever mode and saturation phenomenon of the main system are shown to occur if the excitation bandwidth is sufficiently small.

The Role of Social Support and the Neighborhood Environment on Physical Activity in Low-income, Mexican-American Women in South Texas

  • Objectives: To determine the relationships between physical activity (PA), the neighborhood environment support for PA, and social support for PA among Mexican-American women living in South Texas. The Enlace study was a randomized controlled trial that tested the effectiveness of a promotora-led PA intervention among low-income Mexican origin women (n=614) living in colonias. Methods: The dependent measures included accelerometer-measured average moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and sedentary breaks and the Community Health Activities Model Program for Seniors PA 41-item questionnaire. The independent measures included the Physical Activity and Neighborhood Environment Scale (PANES) and the 13-item Physical Activity Social Support (PASS) scale. Results: Enlace participants were on average 40.4 (standard deviation, 10.3) years old, born in Mexico (86.1%), and uninsured (83.1%). Adjusted linear regression results indicated that each 1-point increment in the PANES overall score was associated with 0.050 (p<0.001) unit increase in sedentary break and a -0.043 (p=0.001) unit decrease in sedentary break duration. Both PANES (${\beta}=0.296$; p=0.002) and PASS scores (${\beta}=0.076$; p<0.001) were associated with weekly average self-reported MVPA. Interaction effects were observed between PASS scores and accelerometer-measured frequency of sedentary breaks and sedentary time duration. Conclusions: The findings of this study indicate that the relationships between PA and built environment and social support are measure-dependent and suggest that reducing sedentary time in this population may require a closer assessment of social support for PA.

보완된 카이-제곱 기법을 이용한 단백질 기능 예측 기법 (Fucntional Prediction Method for Proteins by using Modified Chi-square Measure)

  • 유전체 분석에서 중요한 부분 중 하나는 기능이 알려지지 않은 미지 단백질에 대한 기능 예측이다. 단백질-단백질 상호작용 네트워크를 분석하는 것은 미지 단백질에 대한 기능을 보다 쉽게 예측할 수 있게 한다. 단백질-단백질 상호작용 네트워크로부터 미지 단백질의 기능을 예측하기 위한 다양한 연구들이 시도되어 왔다. 카이-제곱(Chi-square) 방식은 단백질-단백질 상호작용 네트워크를 통해 기능을 예측하고자 하는 연구 중 대표적인 방식이다. 하지만 카이-제곱 방식은 네트워크의 토폴로지를 반영하지 않아 네트워크 크기에 따라 예측의 정확성이 떨어지는 문제점이 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 카이-제곱 방식을 보완하여 정확성을 높인 새로운 기능 예측 방법을 제안한다 이를 위해 MIPS, DIP 그리고 SGD와 같은 공개된 단백질 상호작용 데이터베이스들로부터 데이터를 수집하여 분석하였다. 그리고 제안된 방식의 우수성을 입증하기 위해 각 데이터베이스들에 대해 카이-제곱방식과 제안하는 보완된 카이-제곱(Modified Chi-square)방식으로 예측해보고 이들의 정확성을 평가하였다.
