Modeling of the random effects covariance matrix in generalized linear mixed models (GLMMs) is an issue in analysis of longitudinal categorical data because the covariance matrix can be high-dimensional and its estimate must satisfy positive-definiteness. To satisfy these constraints, we consider the autoregressive and moving average Cholesky decomposition (ARMACD) to model the covariance matrix. The ARMACD creates a more flexible decomposition of the covariance matrix that provides generalized autoregressive parameters, generalized moving average parameters, and innovation variances. In this paper, we analyze longitudinal count data with overdispersion using GLMMs. We propose negative binomial loglinear mixed models to analyze longitudinal count data and we also present modeling of the random effects covariance matrix using the ARMACD. Epilepsy data are analyzed using our proposed model.
Purpose: This study was conducted to identify risk factors that influence the probability and severity of elder abuse in community-dwelling older adults. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional descriptive study. Self-report questionnaires were used to collect data from community-dwelling Koreans, 65 and older (N=416). Logistic regression, negative binomial regression and zero-inflated negative binomial regression model for abuse count data were utilized to determine risk factors for elder abuse. Results: The rate of older adults who experienced any one category of abuse was 32.5%. By zero-inflated negative binomial regression analysis, the experience of verbal-psychological abuse was associated with marital status and family support, while the experience of physical abuse was associated with self-esteem, perceived economic stress and family support. Family support was found to be a salient risk factor of probability of abuse in both verbal-psychological and physical abuse. Self-esteem was found to be a salient risk factor of probability and severity of abuse in physical abuse alone. Conclusion: The findings suggest that tailored prevention and intervention considering both types of elder abuse and target populations might be beneficial for preventative efficiency of elder abuse.
This study deals with the pedestrian accidents of intersections in case of Cheongju. The objective is to develop the pedestrian accident models using Tobit regression model. In pursuing the above, the pedestrian accident data from 2007 to 2011 were collected from TAAS data set of Road Traffic Authority. To analyze the accident, Poisson, negative binomial and Tobit regression models were utilized in this study. The dependent variable were the number of accident by intersection. Independent variables are traffic volume, intersection geometric structure and the transportation facility. The main results were as follows. First, Tobit model was judged to be more appropriate model than other models. Also, these models were analyzed to be statistically significant. Second, such the main variables related to accidents as traffic volume, pedestrian volume, number of traffic island, crossing length and the pedestrian countdown signal systems were adopted in the above model.
In this paper, we use Bayesian method for model selection of poisson vs. negative binomial distribution, and normal, double exponential vs. cauchy distribution. The fractional Bayes factor of O'Hagan (1995) was applied to Bayesian model selection under the assumption of noninformative improper priors for all parameters in the models. Through the analyses of real data and simulation data, we examine the usefulness of the fractional Bayes factor in comparison with intrinsic Bayes factors of Berger and Pericchi (1996, 1998).
This study dealt with developing an accident model for rural signalized intersections with random parameter negative binomial method. The limitation of previous count models(especially, Poisson/Negative Binomial model) is not to explain the integrated variations in terms of time and the distinctive characters a specific point/segment has. This drawback of the traditional count models results in the underestimation of the standard error(t-value inflation) of the derived coefficient and finally affects the low-reliability of the whole model. To solve this problem, this study improves the limitation of traditional count models by suggesting the use of random parameter which takes account of heterogeneity of each point/segment. Through the analyses, it was found that the increase of traffic flow and pedestrian facilities on minor streets had positive effects on the increase of traffic accidents. Left turning lanes and median on major streets reduced the number of accidents. The analysis results show that the random parameter modeling is an effective method for investigating the influence on traffic accident from road geometries. However, this study could not analyze the effects of sequential changes of driving conditions including geometries and safety facilities.
PURPOSES : This study deals with Rotary by Accident Occurrence Location. The purpose of this study is to develop the accident models of rotary by location. METHODS : In pursuing the above, this study gives particular attentions to developing the appropriate models using multiple linear, Poisson and negative binomial regression models and statistical analysis tools. RESULTS : First, four multiple linear regression models which are statistically significant(their $R^2$ values are 0.781, 0.300, 0.784 and 0.644 respectively) are developed, and four Poisson regression models which are statistically significant(their ${\rho}^2$ values are 0.407, 0.306, 0.378 and 0.366 respectively) are developed. Second, the test results of fitness using RMSE, %RMSE, MPB and MAD show that Poisson regression model in the case of circulatory roadway, pedestrian crossing and others and multiple linear regression model in the case of entry/exit sections are appropriate to the given data. Finally, the common variable that affects to the accident is adopted to be traffic volume. CONCLUSIONS : 8 models which are all statistically significant are developed, and the common and specific variables that are related to the models are derived.

In this paper, the negative Polya-Eggenberger distribution has been introduced by compounding negative binomial distribution with beta distribution of I-kind which generates a number of univariate contagious or compound (or mixture of) distributions as its particular cases. The distribution is unimode, over dispersed and all of its positive and negative integer moments exist. The difference equation of the proposed model shows that it is a member of the Ord's family of distribution. Some of its interesting properties have been explored besides different methods of estimation been discussed. Finally, the parameters of the proposed model have been estimated by using a computer programme in R-software. Application of the proposed model to some data, available in the literature, has been given and its goodness of fit demonstrated.
When the observations can take only the non-negative integer values, it is called the count data such as the numbers of car accidents, earthquakes, or insurance coverage. In general, the Poisson regression model has been used to model these count data; however, this model has a weakness in that it is restricted by the equality of the mean and the variance. On the other hand, the count data often tend to be too dispersed to allow the use of the Poisson model in practice because the variance of data is significantly larger than its mean due to heterogeneity within groups. When overdispersion is not taken into account, it is expected that the resulting parameter estimates or standard errors will be inefficient. Since coverage is the main issue for insurance, some accidents may not be covered by insurance, and the number covered by insurance may be zero. This paper considers the zero-inflated model for the count data including many zeros. The performance of this model has been investigated by using of real data with overdispersion and many zeros. The results indicate that the Zero-Inflated Negative Binomial Regression Model performs the best for model evaluation.

Technology innovation is a competitive weapon of sustainable economic growth at the urban and regional level and the growth of firms. In this study, we empirically investigate the effects of collaborative R&D activity on product innovative outputs and process innovative outputs in manufacturing firms in Korea. We analyze the links between collaborative R&D activity and two types of innovative outputs using an alternative negative binomial regression model. The major finding is that collaborative R&D activity has significant positive effects on both product and process innovation. The results also identify a positive link between all types of innovative outputs and other R&D activities including internal R&D activity, patent activity, external technology and capital goods acquisitions. To induce corporate growth that enhances the productivity of individual firms and produces prolonged economic growth, policy makers should place greater emphasis on creating effective arrangements to promote establishing collaborative R&D strategies for manufacturing firms.

In this paper, we proposed a generalized bivariate negative binomial distribution allowing heterogeneous dispersions on two dependent variables based on a trivariate reduction technique. In this model, we propose the score and LR tests for testing the equality of dispersions and compare the efficiencies of the proposed tests using a Monte Carlo study. The Monte Carlo study shows that the proposed score and LR tests prove to be an efficient test for the equality of dispersions in the view of the significance level and power. However, the score test is easier to compute than the LR test and it shows a slightly better performance than the LR test from the Monte Carlo study, we suggest the use of score tests for testing the equality of dispersions on two dependent variables. In addition, an empirical example is provided to illustrate the results.
