  • The possibility of manufacturing titanium hollow cylinder tank for ramjet engine was demonstrated with superplastic forming of subscale article. An innovative manufacturing method to produce complex configuration from titanium multi-sheets by low hydrostatic pressure was presented. Finite element analysis on superplastic blow forming process has been carried out in order to improve the forming process when manufacturing subscale hollow cylinder structure using Ti-6Al-4V multi-sheets. The simulation focused on the reduction of forming time and obtaining finally required shape throughout investigating the deformation mode of sheet according to the forming conditions and die geometry. From pre-sized titanium sheets, near net shape of hollow cylinder tank is obtained by superplastic blow forming conducted using gas pressure of 15bar at 1148K. The result shows that the manufacturing method with superplastic forming of multi-sheets of titanium alloy has been successful for near net shape forming of subscale hollow cylinder tank of ramjet engine.

  • Near net shape forming of 316L stainless steel powder was investigated under hot isostatic pressing. To simulate densification and deformation of a powder compact in a container during hot isostatic pressing, the constitutive model of Abouaf and co-workers was implemented into a finite element analysis. An optimal design technique based on the design sensitivity was applied to the container design during hot isostatic pressing. The optimal shape of the container was predicted from the desired final shape of a powder compact by iterative calculations. Experimental data of 316L stainless steel powder showed that the optimally designed container allowed precise forming of the desired powder compact during hot isostatic pressing.

  • Among powder metallurgy products, complex shaped parts are difficult to be produced. Even i9f it shall be compacted until pet shape, the parts are easily apt to crack. thus it causes inferior productivity. It is present condition that net ahaped parts are obtained by adding after treatment. Clutch hub, pulley, representative partawifh upper 2 steps, tower 3 steps parts are corresponded to the above case. In recent years. muired parts are get to be thinner and thinner, and therefore extremely high compacting techniaues are required. Definition of most preferable com~actingp arts are I) Uniform density 2) Non crack and 3) Realization of net shape or near net shape productlon. • This paper describes an overview of the thixoforming and thixomolding processes. Semi-solid metalworking (SSM), which is called the thixoforming process of aluminium materials, incorporates the elements of both casting and for the manufacture of near net shape parts. The SSM has some advantages such as net shape or near net shape manufacturing, the ability to form thin walls, excellent surface finish, tight tolerance, and excellent dimensional precision. The thixomolding process of Mg alloy (AZ9l) is a combination of two technologies both conventional die casting and plastic injection molding. The feed material used is a machined chip with a geometry of approximately 1 mm square and a length of 2~3 mm. The semi-solid forming (SSF) of high quality aluminium and magnesium parts will be established in the automotive and electronic industry, in the future. The hybrid method of casting/forging has been caused attention. This process uses a preformed material made by casting instead of the wrought material and finishes it by a single forging process. This process is expected to lower costs without sacrificing the mechanical and finishes it by a single forging process. The process is expected to lower costs without sacrificing the mechanical properties. The authors, intending that the casting/forging process contributes to a reduction in production cost of aluminum automotive parts in Korea, describes the feature of the casting/forging process, aluminum alloys suitable for the cast preform, microstructure and mechanical properties of the cast preform, application examples of cast/forging, and further study.

  • The hot forming process of a CAM for vessel engine was designed by finite element (FE) simulation and experimental analysis. An aim of process design was to achieve the near-net shaped CAM forgings by hot forging process. Based on the compression test results of the low alloy steel, deformation processing map was generated using the superposition approach between the dynamic materials model (DMM) and flow stability and/or instability criteria. From the processing map, the initial heating temperature was determined as $1200^{\circ}C$. FE analysis was simulated to predict the formation of rolling defects and deformed shape with different forging designs. Optimum process design suggested in this work was made by comparing with the CAM for vessel engine manufactured by actual forging process.

  • Hot precision forging with a back pressure was investigated for manufacturing of compressor parts made of Al-Si alloy. Disk-shaped blank made of Al-Si alloy was hot forged, and ribs were formed by loading back pressure on their top. The influence of the back pressure and die temperature on forgeability and properties of parts made of Al-Si alloy were examined. Using the F.E.M. simulation, we found the optimum vallue of back-pressure. The prototypes of scroll parts were forged into the near-net shape and satisfied the required properties.

  • In order to resolve the problems which appear after the clean large ingot production process, the impurities which are involved in the steel smelting process should be removed by developing cleaner materials. Through the rationalization of cogging process that is the first forging process of large ingot the quality is to be improved. For the sake of the optimization of an open die forging process and the improvement of the subject matter frequency ratio, a hazard precise die forging process must be developed and a Near Net Shape Forming accomplished. As a result, energy can be reduced by minimizing an after control process. In order to produce large axes and other forming parts, processing techniques are to be developed. In this context, this paper is a study about a reduction ratio, dies width ratio and rotary angles, the amount of overlap, and intends to analysis cogging processes, utilizing Deform-3D cogging module

  • An optimum blank design technology is required for near-net of net-shape cold forming using sheets. Originally, the backward tracing scheme has been developed for preform design in bulk forming, and applied to several forming processes successfully. Its key concept is to trace backward from the final desirable configuration to an intermediate preform of initial blocker. A program for initial blank design in sheet forming which contains the capabilities of forward loading simulation by the finite element method and backward tracing simulation, has been developed and proved the effectiveness by applying to a square cup stamping process. In the blank design of square cup stamping, the backward tracing program can produce an optimum blank configuration which forms a sound net-shape cup product without machining after forming. Another general application appears in the blank design of a cup stamping with protruding flanges, one of typical automobile components. The blank configurations derived by backward tracing simulation have been confirmed by a series of loading simulations. The approach or decision of an initial blank configuration presented in this study will be a milestone in fields of sheet forming process design.
