Science Educational Interpretation of Exhibit Characteristics

  • The purpose of this study was to explore characteristics of natural history museum exhibits from the viewpoint of science education. A total of ninety exhibits for this study were examined in national science museums of Korea and Japan. Exhibits of Tokyo national science museum were again divided into two groups: the old and traditional types, and the new and renovated ones. Even though analyzing data was not undertaken through quantitative statistical process, the interpretation of the data was valid enough to fulfill the purpose of the research. While there were clear changes and differences between the old and the new types of exhibits in Tokyo national science museum, the old part of Tokyo museum was similar to one in Korea. Based on analyzing the new types of Tokyo museum, the current movement in the field of natural history museums of Korea explicitly has toward utilizing more science education concepts and ideas.

보건교사의 자연재난 관리에 대한 심각성인식과 관리핵심수행능력 (Awareness of Severity of Natural Disasters and Nursing Core Competencies in School Health Teachers)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to assess school health teachers' awareness of the severity of natural disasters and nursing core competencies related to disasters. Methods: This cross-sectional study asked 119 school health teachers to complete structured questionnaires sent by email and mobile phones from Feb to Aug, 2017. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression analysis with SPSS 21.0 statistical program. Results: The predictor that had a significant effect on school health teachers' core competency was the experience with natural disaster safety education. Its explanatory power was 14.3%. Conclusion: The finding of this study suggests a strong need for the implementation of disaster-related education targeting school health teachers in order to improve their disaster management ability.

학교 환경교육 강화를 통한 가정의 에너지 절감 효과 (The Effect of Environmental Education on Household Energy-Saving Behaviour)

  • 환경교육은 기후변화에 대처하는 가장 근본적이고 중요한 방안이라고 할 수 있다. 환경부가 지정하고 재정적으로 지원하는 환경교육시범학교 제도의 운영은 환경교육 강화의 효과를 검증하기 위한 자연실험(natural experiment) 환경을 제공한다. 2011년 14차 환경교육시범학교로 지정된 학교 학생들의 가구와 인근 지역의 비시범 학교 학생들의 가구에 대한 수도요금, 전기요금, 가스요금의 제 요금 설문자료를 활용하여, 환경교육시범학교 지정을 통한 학교 환경 교육의 강화가 학생들 가정에서의 에너지 절감에 단기적으로 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 difference-in-difference 추정을 통해 분석한다. 환경교육시범학교 지정을 통한 환경교육의 강화는 대상 가구의 전기요금과 가스요금을 비시범학교 대상 가구에 비해 유의한 수준으로 절감시키는 것으로 나타나, 학교 환경교육의 강화가 대상 가구에 파급효과를 가지고 있으며 이를 통해 단기적으로도 에너지 절감 행위를 강화시켜 줄 수 있는 것으로 분석되었다.

초등학교 옥외 환경학습공간 조성 (The Creation of Outdoor Environmental Education Space at an Elementary School)

  • As recognition and polices for plans to preserve natural resources and to develop environment-friendly space in school education is developed, not only organization of curriculums related to these is required but also facilities for the education are indispensable. Therefore, this study tries to suggest several standards on matters including kinds and scale of facilities and the introduction of species by facilities required for outdoor teaming spaces for environmental education in the elementary school system. The methods of this study include researching various records related to environmental education in elementary school, researching the present condition of outdoor learning space installed and operating in the existing schools by making an on-the-spot survey, and analyzing appearance frequencies of plants and animals displayed in the text. In addition, the actual conditions of the facility use and management were investigate through a questionnaire, We chose and diagrammed a model of the installed facilities by putting the results together. For analyses the investigated eight schools, were categorized as ‘facilities-arranged type’or ‘connection type with ecological park’. The first type distributed and arranged facilities, including meteorological observatory, rocky park, experience-learning area, ecological pond, animal-breeding farm and field-leaning area into appropriate locations according to the site conditions of the school while the second type created a natural learning place by integrating several facilities and arranging areas such as an animal-breeding farm and experience-learning area into appropriate sites. In this study, essential facilities for outdoor learning are classified into ecological park, experience-loaming area, field loaming area, and for natural learning, meteorological observatory, animal-breeding farm, and greenhouse.

중국, 미국, 독일의 생물전공자와 비교한 한국 생물예비교사의 자연선택개념 이해 수준 분석 (Analyzing Korean Pre-service Biology Teachers' Understanding of the Concept of Natural Selection in Comparison with Chinese, American, and German Biology Majors)

  • 자연선택개념은 진화론의 핵심개념으로 다양한 생물학적 문제를 해결하기 위해 이해해야 될 필수 개념이다. 이 연구는 한국예비생물 교사들의 자연선택개념의 이해 수준을 조사하기 위하여 중국, 미국, 독일의 생물전공자와 비교하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 특히 이 연구에서는 자연선택개념의 두 개념요소인 생태개념과 유전개념으로 구분하여 예비생물교사의 자연선택개념을 분석하였다. 우리나라 예비생물교사 376명을 포함하여 1226명의 한국, 중국, 미국, 독일의 생물전공 예비교사의 자료를 토대로 분석하였다. 검사도구는 생태개념과 유전개념문항 각 10개씩을 포함하고 있는 Conceptual Inventory of Natural Selection의 20문항을 라쉬모델, 다변량분산분석, 일변량분산 분석을 활용하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 우리나라 예비생물교사의 자연선택개념 수준은 중국과 비슷하고 미국, 독일에 비하여 낮았다. 생태개념과 유전개념으로 구분하여 살펴보면, 우리나라 예비생물교사 1학년의 경우 중국과 독일에 비하여 유전개념이 유의미하게 낮았으며, 4학년의 경우 미국과 독일에 비하여 생태개념이 유의미하게 낮았다. 3년간의 예비생물교사 교육과정 동안 유전개념에 대한 교육은 성공적이었으나, 생태개념의 교육은 성공적이지 못하였다. 이 연구결과를 토대로 자연선택개념의 이해를 위한 예비생물 교사교육에 대해서 논의한다.

Silage preparation and fermentation quality of natural grasses treated with lactic acid bacteria and cellulase in meadow steppe and typical steppe

  • Objective: In order to improve fermentation quality of natural grasses, their silage preparation and fermentation quality in meadow steppe (MS) and typical steppe (TS) were studied. Methods: The small-scale silages and round bale silages of mixed natural grasses in both steppes were prepared using the commercial lactic acid bacteria (LAB) inoculants Chikuso-1 (CH, Lactobacillus plantarum) and cellulase enzyme (AC, Acremonium cellulase) as additives. Results: MS and TS contained 33 and 9 species of natural grasses, respectively. Stipa baicalensis in MS and Stipa grandi in TS were the dominant grasses with the highest dry matter (DM) yield. The crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber and water-soluble carbohydrate of the mixed natural grasses in both steppes were 8.02% to 9.03%, 66.75% to 69.47%, and 2.02% to 2.20% on a DM basis, respectively. All silages treated with LAB and cellulase were well preserved with lower pH, butyric acid and ammonia-N content, and higher lactic acid and CP content than those of control in four kinds of silages. Compared with CH- or AC-treated silages, the CH+ AC-treated silages had higher lactic acid content. Conclusion: The results confirmed that combination with LAB and cellulase may result in beneficial effects by improving the natural grass silage fermentation in both grasslands.
