  • In this paper, some of the issue about a group sequential method are considered in the Bayesian context. The continuous time optimal stopping boundary can be used to approximate the optimal stopping boundary for group sequential designs. The exact stopping boundary for group sequential design is obtained by using the backward induction method and is compared with the continuous optimal stopping boundary and the corrected continuous stopping boundary.

  • Semi-Solid Diecasters usually carry out the Semi-Solid diecasting experiments before producing new casts. At the Semi-Solid diecasting stages, the runner-gate part has been always repeatedly corrected, which leads to a tedious processing time and increased processing cost. A large amount of experience is essential in manual assessment and if the design is defective, much time and a great deal of efforts will be wasted in the modification of the die. In this study, design system has been developed based on design database. In addition, gate experiment for gating system design has been carried out to append the database. It is possible for engineers to make efficient gating system design of Semi-Solid diecasting and it will result in the reduction of expenses and time to be required. The detailed contents of the research are described in the followings.

  • In practice, the design of forging processes is performed based on an experience-oriented technology, that is designer's experience and expensive trial and errors. Using the finite element simulation and the artificial neural network, we propose an optimal die geometry satisfying the design conditions of final product. A three-layer neural network is used and the back propagation algorithm is employed to train the network. An optimal die geometry that satisfied the same between inner extruded rib and outer extruded one is determined by applying the ability of function approximation of neural network. The neural networks may reduce the number of finite element simulation for determine the optimal die geometry of forging products and further they are usefully applied to physical modelling for the forging design.

  • The purpose of this study was to find out relationships among mother-daughter dyads in clothing preferences and possesses. Subjects consisted of 75 female elementary school students, 64 female highschool students, and their mothers(139) who were currently residing in Daejeon, Korea. The research was an ex-post factor relational study and instruments for the study were 24 clothing stimuli and 6 questions for measuring clothing preferences and possesses. Results were as follows; In clothing preference for mother daughter dyads there was a tendency emerged that a mother's clothing preference affected on clothing evaluation of their daughter and there was more powerful dyads relationship between mother and daughter highschool students group than elementary school students group. The clothing preferences of the 3 age group showed significant differences. In clothing category, daughters preferred skirt style while mothers preferred pants style. In masculinity and feminity of clothing design the elementary school students and mother group preferred more feminine design than high school students, however complex and simple dimension of clothing no significant differences existed and all the their age group preferred simpler design.

  • Criticality alarm systems (CASs) are mandatory in nuclear plants for prompt alarm in the event of any criticality incident. False criticality alarms are not desirable as they create a panic environment for radiation workers. The present article describes the design enhancement of the CAS at each stage and provides maximum availability, preventing false criticality alarms. The failure mode and effect analysis are carried out on each element of a CAS. Based on the analysis, additional hardware circuits are developed for early fault detection. Two different methods are developed, one method for channel loop functionality test and another method for dose alarm test using electronic transient pulse. The design enhancement made for the external systems that are integrated with a CAS includes the power supply, criticality evacuation hooter circuit, radiation data acquisition system along with selection of different soft alarm set points, and centralized electronic test facility. The CAS incorporating all improvements are assembled, installed, tested, and validated along with rigorous surveillance procedures in a nuclear plant for a period of 18,000 h.

  • Purpose: Current research aimed at exploring whether group entitativity and satisfaction to becoming the member of group have positive effects on group identification, and whether group identification has positive effects on within-in-group domain consumption. This research focused on the mediation role of group identification in the effects of the group entitativity and the satisfaction to becoming the member of group on the within-in-group domain consumption. Research design, data, and methodology: We selected Shandong Province as our experimental target group and people living in Shandong province as our respondents. 316 questionnaire data were collected. The structural equation model in AMOS 26 were used to verify hypotheses. Results: First, group entitativity affected group identification positively. Second, satisfaction to becoming the member of group affected group identification positively. Third, group identification positively influenced on the within-in-group domain consumption. Fourth, the group identification played the full mediation roles in the effects of both the group entitativity and the satisfaction on the within-in-group domain consumption. Conclusions: marketers should highlight the group identification with their target group by stimulating the perception of the consumer's group entitativity and satisfied feelings about the group to induce the intent to purchase their brand as within-in-group domain consumption object.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop improved strength of an arm and a boom on over-load environment, which causes damage in the initial design statement. To develop improved strength of an excavator front group, we calculated load conditions using the MATLAB program, and using these conditions, we performed a structural analysis of an excavator front group for the maximum digging force condition. Finally we performed a topology optimization to reduce weights of an arm and a boom, and we re-modeled an arm and a boom based on the topology design results and re-performed the structural analysis. The strength of the re-design is higher than the initial design but its weight is almost the same as the initial design.

  • The electrical insulation design and withstanding test of mini-model coils for 600 kJ class conduction cooled high temperature superconducting magnetic energy storage (HTS SMES) have been studied in this paper. The high voltage is generated to both ends of magnet of HTS SMES by quench or energy discharge. Therefore, the insulation design of the high voltage needs for commercialization, stability, reliability and so on. In this study, we analyzed the insulation composition of a HTS SMES, and investigated about the insulation characteristics of the materials such as Kapton, AIN and vacuum in cryogenic temperature. Base on these results, the insulation design for 600 kJ conduction cooled HTS SMES was performed. The mini-model was manufactured by the insulation design, and the insulation test was carried out using the mini-model.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a program for elementary school students' scientific experimental design knowledge generation. This study also investigated the effects of their experimental design ability, as well as the change in the type and elaborateness of their experimental design by applying the program. The subjects of this study was 4 classes in 6th grade of an elementary school located in Seoul, KOREA. The classes were divided into experimental and comparative groups. While the treatment was applied to the experimental group, the comparative group was taught using conventional methods. The pre-test and post-test for students' capability of building scientific experimental design knowledge were conducted to compare the ability of experimental design, the change in the type and elaborateness of experimental design. The findings in this study are as follows: First, the program appeared to be effective in improving experimental design ability. Furthermore, the program appeared to be more effective in generating a higher level of the experimental design type and elaborateness. Therefore, in order to improve experimental design knowledge generation ability, the program can be utilized as effective learning model in elementary school.
