  • In this study, the field emission display with carbon nanotube emitter is developed for the large size HDTV application. Two structures for electron beam focusing are developed on the typical top-gate cathode. The metal grid and focusing gate structure are proved to be effective for the focusing. The data switching voltage for the double gate structure is lower than 30V which is competitive value in respect of the cost for driver electronics. The brightness and color gamut are comparable to those of the commercial product such as CRT.

  • Hollow copper oxide/multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CuO/MWCNT) composites were fabricated via an optimized infiltration-reduction-oxidation method, which is more facile and easy to control. The crystalline structure and morphology were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The as-prepared CuO/MWCNT composites deliver an initial capacity of 612.3 mAh·g-1 and with 80% capacity retention (488.2 mAh·g-1) after 100 cycles at a current rate of 0.2 A·g-1. The enhanced electrochemical performance is ascribed to the better electrical conductivity of MWCNT, the hollow structure of CuO particles, and the flexible structure of the CuO/MWCNT composites.

  • This paper introduces a new structural health monitoring using a nano sensor. The sensor is made of nano smart composite material based on carbon nanotubes. The nano sensor is fabricated as a thin and narrow polymer film sensor that is bonded or deposited onto a structure. The electrochemical impedance and dynamic strain response of the neuron change due to deterioration of the structure where the sensor is located. A network of the long nano sensorcan form a structural neural system to provide large area coverage and an assurance of the operational health of a structure without the need for actuators and complex wave propagation analyses that are used with other methods.

  • Ni nanoparticles-$TiO_2$ nanotube arrays (Ni/$TiO_2NTs$) composites were prepared by pulsed electrodeposition method and subsequently characterized by means of field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The FESEM results showed that highly dispersed Ni nanoparticles were not only loaded on the top of the $TiO_2NTs$ but also within the tubular structure, and the particle size of Ni prepared at different current amplitude (100, 200 and 300 $mA{\cdot}cm^{-2}$) was in the range of 15 to 70 nm. The electrochemical studies indicated that Ni nanoparticles loaded on the highly ordered $TiO_2NTs$ are readily accessible for electrochemical reactions, which improve the efficiency of the Ni nanoparticles and $TiO_2NTs$. A maximum specific capacitance (27.3 $mF.cm^{-2}$) was obtained on the Ni/$TiO_2NTs$ composite electrode that prepared at a current of 200 $mA.cm^{-2}$, and the electrode also exhibited excellent electrochemical stability.

  • Since the discovery of the carbon nanotube(CNTs), they have attracted much attention because of unique properties that may impact many fields of science and technology. The considerable properties of CNTs include high surface area, outstanding thermal, electrical conductivity and mechanical stability. However, uniform deposition of Pt nanoparticles on carbon surface remains inaccessible territory because of the inert carbon surface. In this study, we prepared directly oriented CNTs on carbon paper as a catalyst support in cathode electrode. carbon surface was functionalized using aryl diazonium salt for increasing adhesion of Ni particles which is precursor for growing CNTs. For fabricate electrode, CNTs on carbon paper were grown by chemical vapor deposition using Ni catalyst and Pt nanoparticles were deposited on CNTs oriented carbon paper by polyol method. The performance was measured using Proton electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell(PEMFC). The structure and morphology of the Pt nanoparticles on CNTs were characterized by Scanning electron Microscopy(SEM) and Transmission electron Microscopy (TEM). The average diameter of Pt nanoparticles was 3nm.

  • A carbon nanotube field emission display(CNT FED) panel with a 2 inch diagonal size was fabricated by using a screen printing of a prepared photo-sensitive CNT paste and vacuum in-line sealing technology. After a surface treatment of the patterned CNT, only the carbon nanotube tips are uniformly exposed on the surface. The diameter of the exposed CNTs are usually about 20nm. The sealing temperature of the panel was around 390 $^{\circ}C$ and the vacuum level was obtained with $1.4{\times}10^{-5}$torr at the sealing. The field emission properties of the diode type CNT FED panel were characterized Now, we are developing a triode type CNT FED with a self-aligned gate-emitter structure.

  • In this study, we demonstrate the photoelectrochromic devices composed of $TiO_2$ and $WO_3$ nanostructures prepared by anodization method. The morphology and the crystal structure of anodized $TiO_2$ nanotubes and $WO_3$ nanoporous layers are investigated by SEM and XRD. To fabricate a transparent photoelectrode on FTO substrate, a $TiO_2$ nanotube membrane, which has been detached from Ti substrate, is transferred to FTO substrate and annealed at $450^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr. The photoelectrode of $TiO_2$ nanotube and the counter electrode of $WO_3$ nanoporous layer are assembled and the inner space is filled with a liquid electrolyte containing 0.5 M LiI and 5 mM $I_2$ as a redox mediator. The properties of the photoelectrochromic devices is investigated and Pt-$WO_3$ electrode system shows better electrochromic performance compared to $WO_3$ electrode.

  • Flexible transparent conducting films (TCFs) were fabricated by dip-coating single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) onto a flexible polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film. The amount of coated SWCNTs was controlled simply by dipping number. Because the performance of SWCNT-based TCFs is influenced by both electrical conductance and optical transmittance, we evaluated the film performance by introducing a film property factor using both the number of interconnected SWCNT bundles at intersection points, and the coverage of SWCNTs on the PET substrate, in field emission scanning electron microscopic images. The microscopic film property factor was in an excellent agreement with the macroscopic one determined from electrical conductance and optical transmittance measurements, especially for a small number of dippings. Therefore, the most crucial factor governing the performance of the SWCNT-based TCFs is a SWCNT-network structure with a large number of intersection points for a minimum amount of deposited SWCNTs.

  • A diode structure of field emission lamps based upon carbon-nanotube is studied. The single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWNTs) were produced by arc discharge method. We made the 1-inch diode type flat lamp using CNTs. We applied anode voltage gradually to refine the field emission behavior of emitter in dynamic vacuum system to study the emission current. the brightness and efficiency, etc. The field emission properties was estimated by varying gaps between the cathode and anode, contents of the glass frit. The good luminous efficiency is showed in the gap $900{\mu}m$, $1200{\mu}m$ and contents of the proper glass frit. For the upper conditions, the luminous efficiencies were respectively 23.30, 11.12 1m/W.

  • Nondestructive damage sensing and mechanical properties for acid-treated carbon nanotube (CNT) and nanofiber (CNF)/epoxy composites were investigated using electro-micromechanical technique and acoustic emission (AE). Carbon black (CB) was used to compare to CNT and CNF. The results were compared to the untreated case. The fracture of carbon fiber was detected by nondestructive acoustic emission (AE) relating to electrical resistivity under double-matrix composites test. Sensing for fiber tension was performed by electro-pullout test under uniform cyclic strain. The sensitivity for fiber damage such as fiber fracture and fiber tension was the highest for CNT/epoxy composites. Reinforcing effect of CNT obtained from apparent modulus measurement was the highest in the same content. For surface treatment case, the damage sensitivity and reinforcing effect were higher than those of the untreated case. The results obtained from sensing fiber damage were correlated with the morphological observation of nano-scale structure using FE-SEM. The information on fiber damage and matrix deformation and reinforcing effect of carbon nanocomposites could be obtained from electrical resistivity measurement as a new concept of nondestructive evaluation.
