Carbon nanofibers (CNF) are widely used as active agents for electrodes in Li-ion secondary battery cells, supercapacitors, and fuel cells. Nanoscale coatings on CNF electrodes can increase the output and lifespan of battery devices. Atomic layer deposition (ALD) can control the coating thickness at the nanoscale regardless of the shape, suitable for coating CNFs. However, because the CNF surface comprises stable C-C bonds, initiating homogeneous nuclear formation is difficult because of the lack of initial nucleation sites. This study introduces uniform nucleation site formation on CNF surfaces to promote a uniform $SnO_2$ layer. We pretreat the CNF surface by introducing $H_2O$ or $Al_2O_3$ (trimethylaluminum + $H_2O$) before the $SnO_2$ ALD process to form active sites on the CNF surface. Transmission electron microscopy and energy-dispersive spectroscopy both identify the $SnO_2$ layer morphology on the CNF. The $Al_2O_3$-pretreated sample shows a uniform $SnO_2$ layer, while island-type $SnO_x$ layers grow sparsely on the $H_2O$-pretreated or untreated CNF.
Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were prepared by microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition (MPCVD) using various combination of binary catalysts and methane precursor. The maximum yield (10.3 %) of CNTs was obtained using a methane-hydrogen-nitrogen mixture with volume ratio of 1:1:2 at 1000 W of microwave power. As the microwave power increased up to 1000 W, the deposition yield of CNTs raised from 4.1 % to 10. 3 %. However, the prepared CNTs at 800 W showed the more crystalline structure than those prepared at 1000 W. The prepared CNTs over different binary catalysts had various structural conformations such as aligned cylinder, bamboo, and nanofibers. The Id/Ig value of CNTs over$Fe-Fe/Al_2O_3, $Co-Co/Al_2O_3, and $Co-Cu/Al_2O_3 were in the range of 0.89${\sim}$0.93. Among the various binary catalysts used, $Fe-Co./Al_2O_3 showed the highest yield.

The non-noble 1D nanofibers(NFs) prepared by electrospinning and calcination method were used as oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalyst for water electrolysis. The electrospinning process and rate of solution composition was optimized to prepare uniform and non-beaded PVP polymer electrospun NFs. The diameter and morphology of PVP NFs changed in accordance with the viscosity and ion conductivity. The clean metal precursor contained electrospun fibers were synthesized via the optimized electrospinning process and solution composition. The calcined $CuCo_2O_4$ NFs catalyst showed higher activity and long-term cycle stability for OER compared with other $Co_3O_4$, $NiCo_2O$ NF catalysts. Furthermore, the $CuCo_2O_4$ NFs maintained the OER activity during long-term cycle test compared with commercial $CuCo_2O_4$ nanoparticle catalyst due to unique physicochemical and electrochemical properties by1D nanostructure.
A biodegradable nanofiber scaffolds using electrospining provide fibrous guidance cues for controlling cell fate that mimic the native extracellular matrix (ECM). It can create a pattern using conventional electrospining method, but has a difficulty to generate one or more pattern structures. Femtosecond(fs) laser ablation has much interested in patterning on biomaterials in order to distinguish the fundamental or systemic interaction between cell and material surface. The ablated materials with a short pulse duration using femtosecond laser that allows for precise removal of materials without transition of the inherent material properties. In this study, linear grooves and circular craters were fabricated on electrospun nanofiber scaffolds (poly-L-lactide(PLLA)) by femtosecond laser patterning processes. As parametric studies, pulse energy and beam spot size were varied to determine the effects of the laser pulse on groove size. We confirmed controlling pulse energy to $5{\mu}J-20{\mu}J$ and variation of lens maginfication of 2X, 5X, 10X, 20X created grooves of width to approximately $5{\mu}m-50{\mu}m$. Our results demonstrate that femtosecond laser processing is an effective means for flexibly structuring the surface of electrospun PLLA nanofibers.
Due to the superior properties of nanoparticles, using them has been increased in concrete production technology. In this study, the effect of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles on the mechanical and smart properties of concrete was studied. At the first, the ZnO nanoparticles are dispersed in water using shaker, magnetic stirrer and ultrasonic devices. The nanoparticles with 3.5, 0.25, 0.75, and 1.0 volume percent are added to the concrete mixture and replaced by the appropriate amount of cement to compare with the control sample without any additives. In order to study the mechanical and smart properties of the concrete, the cubic samples for determining the compressive strength and cylindrical samples for determining tensile strength with different amounts of ZnO nanoparticles are produced and tested. The most important finding of this paper is about the smartness of the concrete due to the piezoelectric properties of the ZnO nanoparticles. In other words, the concrete in this study can produce the voltage when subjected to mechanical load and vice versa it can induce the mechanical displacement when subjected to external voltage. The experimental results show that the best volume percent for ZnO nanoparticles in 28-day samples is 0.5%. In other words, adding 0.5% ZnO nanoparticles to the concrete instead of cement leads to increases of 18.70% and 3.77% in the compressive and tensile strengths, respectively. In addition, it shows the best direct and reverse piezoelectric properties. It is also worth to mention that adding 3.5% zinc oxide nanoparticles, the setting of cement is stopped in the concrete mixture.
This work describes the hydriding chemical vapor synthesis (HCVS) of the $MgH_2$ in a hydrogen atmosphere and the product's hydriding-dehydridng properties. Mg powder was used as a starting material to synthesize $MgH_2$ and uniformly heated to a temperature of $600^{\circ}C$ for Mg vaporization. The effects of hydrogen pressure on the morphology and the composition of HCVS-$MgH_2$ were examined by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It is clearly seen that after the HCVS process, the particle size of synthesized $MgH_2$ was drastically reduced to the submicron or micrometer-scale and these showed different shapes (needle-like nanofibers and angulated plate) depending on the hydrogen pressure. It was found that after the HCVS process, the $H_2$ desorption temperature of HCVS-$MgH_2$ decreased from 380 to $410^{\circ}C$, and the minimum hydrogen desorption tempreature of HCVS-$MgH_2$ powder with needle-like shape can be obtained. In addition, the enhanced hydrogen storage performance for needle-like $MgH_2$ was achieved during subsequent hydriding-dehydriding cycles.
In this study, the optimum conditions for manufacturing PVDF nano web according to various electrospinning conditions such as solution concentration and applied voltage conditions were confirmed. The optimum spinning conditions were studied by analyzing the changes in the radioactivity of PVDF/TiO2 nano web according to the TiO2 content and the content of β-phase closely related to the piezoelectric properties under established conditions. As a result, it was confirmed that the concentration of the spinning solution was 20 wt%, the applied voltage was 25 kV, and the TiO2 content was 5 phr. PVDF nano web and PVDF/TiO2 nano web were observed morphologies through Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) analysis. Formation of β-phase by electrospinning was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) and X-ray Diffractometer(XRD), and the effect of the trapped nano web structure on the piezoelectric properties was investigated.
Hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) was studied over $Ni_4Cr$ nanofibers(NFs) prepared by electrospinning method and oxidation/reduction heat treatment for alkaline water electrolysis. The physicochemical and electrochemical properties such as average diameter, lattice parameter, HER activity of synthesized $Ni_4Cr$ NFs could be modified by proper electrospinning process condition and reduction temperature. It was shown that $Ni_4Cr$ NFs had average diameter from 151 to 273 nm. Also, it exhibited the overpotential between 0.419 V and 0.526 V at $1mA/cm^2$ and Tafel slope of -334.75 mV to -444.55 mV per decade in 1 M KOH solution. These results indicate that $Ni_4Cr$ NFs with reduction heat treatment at $600^{\circ}C$ show thinnest diameter and highest HER activity among the other catalysts.
