  • We developed nano-porous $TiO_2-SiO_2$ composites (commercial name : PTI, porous titania insulator) with low thermal conductivity as thermal insulating material as well as function of photocatalyst. The objectives of this paper are, firstly, to evaluate of the thermal conductivity of the PTI powder in the temperature range from -160 to $250^{\circ}C$, secondly to evaluate of thermal conductivities of insulation materials that is applied PTI powder. The structure of the PTI powder that has the pores size of 20-30 nm and the particle diameter of 2-10 nm. The PTI had a high surface area of $400m^2/g$ and a mean pore size of $45{\AA}$, which was fairly uniform. The thermal conductivity was measured by GHP(guarded hot plate) method and HFM(heat flux method). The PTI structure is a three-dimensional network nano-structures composed by a pearl-necklace that involved a precious stone in the center of the necklace. The thermal conductivities of PTI-PX powder by the GHP and HFM were 0.0366 W/m.K, 0.0314 W/m.K at $20^{\circ}C$, respectively. This is similar to values that are proportional to the square of the absolute temperature of the thermal conductivity of static air. The thermal conductivities of insulating sheets coated with PTI powder were similar results with that of the PTI powder.

  • In this study, AA1060/Alumina composites were fabricated by combined stir casting and accumulative press bonding (APB). The APB process was repeated up to six press bonding steps at 300Ċ. As the novelty, potential dynamic polarization in 3.5Wt% NaCl solution was used to study the corrosion properties of these composites. The corrosion behavior of these samples was compared and studied with that of the annealed aluminum alloy 1060 and versus the number of APB steps. So, as a result of enhancing influence on the number of APB process, this experimental investigation showed a significant enhancement in the main electrochemical parameters and the inert character of the Alumina particles. Together with Reducing the active zones of the material surfaces could delay the corrosion process. Also, at higher number of steps, the corrosion resistance of composites improved. The sample produced after six number of steps had a low corrosion density in comparison with high corrosion density of annealed specimens. Also, the scanning electron microscopy (SEM), was used to study the corrosion surface of samples.

  • Microstructures and mechanical properties of SPSed monolithic HAp, HAp-Ag, and HAp-ZrO$_2$sintered bodies were investigated by the XRD, SEM, and TEM techniques. The nano-sized HAp powders were successfully synthesized by precipitation of Ca(NO$_3$)$_2$4$H_2O$ and (NH$_4$)HPO$_4$solution. In the HAp-Ag composite, the shrinkage cavities were observed at the interfaces between HAp and large sized Ag particles due to the mismatch of their thermal expansion coefficients. However, no found the defect at the interfaces between HAp and fine-sized Ag particles. In the HAp-ZrO$_2$composite. nano-sized ZrO$_2$particles were almost dispersed at the grain boundaries of HAp phase. The fracture toughness of HAp-Ag and HAp-ZrO$_2$ composites were increased due to the plastic deformation and phase transformation mechanisms of the dispersed fine Ag and ZrO$_2$phase in the HAp matrix, respectively.

  • Nano-crystalline hydroxyapatite (HAp) films were formed at the Ti surface by a single-step microarc oxidation (MAO), and HAp-zirconia composite (HZC) films were obtained by subsequent chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of zirconia onto the HAp. Through the CVD process, zero- and one-dimensional zirconia nanostructures having tetragonal crystallinity (t-ZrO2) were uniformly distributed and well incorporated into the HAp crystal matrix to form nanoscale composites. In particular, (t-$ZrO_2$) was synthesized at a very low temperature. The HZC films did not show secondary phases such as tricalcium phosphate (TCP) and tetracalcium phosphate (TTCP) at relatively high temperatures. The most likely mechanism for the formation of the t-$ZrO_2$ and the pure HAp at the low processing temperature was proposed to be the diffusion of $Ca^{2+}$ ions. The HZC films showed increasing micro-Vickers hardness values with increases in the t-$ZrO_2$ content. The morphological features and phase compositions of the HZC films showed strong dependence on the time and temperature of the CVD process. Furthermore, they showed enhanced cell proliferation compared to the $TiO_2$ and HAp films most likely due to the surface structure change.

  • The activated carbon is a very good choice for using as supercapacitor electrode materials. Herein, the flower of Shorea robusta, a bio-waste material was successfully used to synthesize the activated carbons for application as supercapacitor electrode materials. The activated carbon was synthesized through chemical activation process followed by thermal treatment at 700℃ in presence of N2 atmosphere using KOH, ZnCl2 and H3PO4 as the activating agents. The physicochemical analyses demonstrate that the obtained activated carbons are graphitic in nature and the degree of disorder of the graphitic carbons is changed with the activating agents. The activated carbon obtained from Shorea robusta flower (ACSF-K) electrode shows the specific capacitance of ~610 F g-1 at 2 A g-1 current density, which is higher than ACSF-Z (560 F g-1) and ACSF-H (470 F g-1) electrode material under the identical current density. The synthesized graphitic carbons also demonstrated good rate capability and high electrochemical stability as supercapacitor electrode.

  • The hybridization of carbon nano-materials enhances the efficiency of each function of the resulting structure or composites. Also, the addition of non-carbon elements to nanomaterials modifies the electrochemical properties. Electrodes combining porous carbon nanofibers (CNFs) and metal oxides benefit from the combination of the double-layer capacitance of the CNFs and the pseudocapacitive character associated with the surface redox-type reactions. Consequently, they demonstrate superior supercapacitor performance in terms of high capacitance, high energy/power efficiency and high rate capability. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the latest advances made in the development and application of various metal oxide/CNF composites (CNFCs) to supercapacitor electrodes.

  • Biocomposite was fabricated with biodegradable polymer and natural fiber that has potential to be used as replacement for glass fiber reinforced polymer composite with the benefits of low cost, low density, acceptable specific strength, biodegradability, etc. Until now, mostly natural cellulosic fibers on land have been used as reinforcement for biocomposite. The present study focused on investigating the fabrication and the characterization of biocomposite reinforced with red algae fibers from the sea. The bleached red algae fiber (BRAF) showed very similar crystallinity to the wood cellulose. It has high stability against thermal degradation (maximum thermal decomposition temperature of 359.3$^{\circ}C$) and thermal expansion. Biocomposites reinforced with BRAF have been fabricated by a compression molding method and their mechanical and thermal properties have been studied. The storage modulus and the thermomechanical stability of PBS (polybuthylenesuccinate) matrix are markedly improved by reinforcing with the BRAF. These results indicate that red algae fiber can be used as an excellent reinforcement of biocomposites, which are sometimes called as "green-composites" or "eco-composites".

  • One of the biggest challenges in the nano-field is how to effectively disperse nano-scale particles, especially CNTs, which are strongly agglomerated by intermolecular van der Waals forces. This study suggests a new method, discharge flocking, in order to disperse nano-scale particles effectively, which combines corona discharge phenomenon and a traditional electrostatic flocking process. In order to evaluate the discharge flocking process, composite specimens were fabricated by the process and RFI(resin film infusion) process, and then the mechanical and electrical properties of the specimens were measured and compared. Moreover, the evaluation of gas discharge effect on the CNTs and epoxy was performed to compare the mechanical and electrical properties of the composite specimens including the plasma treated CNTs. The experimental results showed that the electrical and mechanical properties of the specimens fabricated by the discharge flocking process were similar to those of the RFI process. In addition, plasma treated CNTs were not affected by gas discharge during the discharge flocking process.

  • In this study, the fabrication conditions of CFRP rebar were controlled to derive the correlation between flexural strength and pore characteristics. The fabrication conditions of CFRP rebar were adjusted for presence or absence of rib, resin temperature, and curing furnace temperature. Flexural strength and pore characteristics of fabricated CFRP rebar were analyzed. The flexural strength of CFRP rebar was changed depending on the fabrication condition, such as the presence or absence of rib, the resin temperature, and the curing furnace temperature. It was confirmed that the flexural strength of CFRP rebar was significantly lowered when the rib was not wound. As a result of Nano X-ray CT analysis, the max. pore diameter was shown in CFRP rebar prepared at a resin temperature of 60℃. According to optical microscopic analysis, the maximum porosity was 6.89% in No. 1, and the minimum porosity was 2.88% in No. 7. The correlation coefficient between porosity used optical microscopy and flexural strength was -0.64, which was higher than the correlation coefficient between porosity or pore size used Nano X-ray CT and flexural strength.

  • Nanocomposite blade for dicing semiconductor wafer is investigated for micro/nano-device and micro/nano-fabrication. While metal blade has been used for dicing of silicon wafer, polymer composite blades are used for machining of quartz wafer in semiconductor and cellular phone industry in these days. Organic-inorganic material selection is important to provide the blade with machinability, electrical conductivity, strength, ductility and wear resistance. Maintaining constant thickness with micro-dimension during shaping is one of the important technologies fer machining micro/nano fabrication. In this study the fabrication of blade by wet processing of mixing conducting nano ceramic powder, abrasive powder phenol resin and polyimide has been investigated using an experimental approach in which the thickness differential as the primary design criterion. The effect of drying conduction and post pressure are investigated. As a result wet processing techniques reveal that reliable results are achievable with improved dimension tolerance.
