A novel sensor material of Au nanoparticles (NPs) functionalized 1D ${\alpha}-MoO_3$ nanobelts (NBs) was fabricated by a facile lysine-assisted approach. The obtained $Au/{\alpha}-MoO_3$ product was characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), and X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS). Then, in order to investigate the gas sensing performances of our samples, a comparative gas sensing study was carried out on both the ${\alpha}-MoO_3$ NBs before and after Au NPs decoration by using ethanol vapor as the molecular probe. The results turned out that, after the functionalization of Au NPs, the sensor exhibited improved gas-sensing characteristics than the pure ${\alpha}-MoO_3$, such as response and recovery time, optimal operating temperature (OT) and excellent selectivity. Take for example 200 ppm of ethanol, the response/recovery times were 34 s/43 s and 5.7 s/10.5 s, respectively, while the optimal operating temperature (OT) was lower to $200^{\circ}C$ rather than $250^{\circ}C$. Besides, the functionalized sensor showed a higher response to ethanol at $200^{\circ}C$, and response was 1.6 times higher than the pure $MoO_3$. The mechanism of such improved sensing properties was interpreted, which might be attributed to the spillover effect of Au NPs and the electronic metal-support interaction.

An electrochemical sensor ($Cu^{2+}$-IIPs/GCE) was developed for detection of $Cu^{2+}$ in water. $Cu^{2+}$-IIPs/GCE was prepared by dispersing $Cu^{2+}$ imprinted polymers ($Cu^{2+}$-IIPs) on a preprocessed glassy carbon electrode. $Cu^{2+}$-IIPs were synthesized on the surface of modified carbon spheres by ion imprinting technology. The electrochemical performance of $Cu^{2+}$-IIPs/GCE was evaluated by differential pulse voltammetry method. The response of $Cu^{2+}$-IIPs/GCE to $Cu^{2+}$ was linear in $1.0{\times}10^{-5}mol/L$ to $1.0{\times}10^{-3}mol/L$. The detection limit was $5.99{\times}10^{-6}mol/L$ (S=N = 3). The current response value of $Cu^{2+}$-IIPs/GCE was 2.14 times that of the nonimprinted electrode. These results suggest that $Cu^{2+}$-IIPs/GCE can detect the concentration of $Cu^{2+}$ in water, providing a new way for heavy metal ions adsorption and testing.
In this work, water-soluble and blue-emitting carbon nanodots (CDs) were synthesized from apple peels for the first time via one-step hydrothermal method. The synthetic route is facile, green, economical and viable. The as-prepared CDs were characterized thoroughly by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron (XPS), fluorescence and UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy in terms of their morphology, surface functional groups and optical properties. The results show that these CDs possessed ultrasmall size, good dispersivity, and high tolerance to pH, ionic strength and continuous UV irradiation. Significantly, the CDs had fast and reversible response towards temperature, and the accurate linear relationship between fluorescence intensity and temperature was used to design a novel nanothermometer in a broad temperature range from 5 to $65^{\circ}C$ facilely. In addition, the fluorescence intensity of CDs was observed to be quenched immediately by Cr(VI) ions based on the inner filter effect. A low-cost Cr(VI) ions sensor was proposed employing CDs as fluorescent probe, and it displayed a wide linear range from 0.5 to $200{\mu}M$ with a detection limit of $0.73{\mu}M$. The practicability of the developed Cr(VI) sensor for real water sample assay was also validated with satisfactory recoveries.
Increasing active sites and enhancing electric conductivity are critical factors to improve sensing performance toward phenol. Herein, Ni nanoparticle was successfully anchored on acidified multiwalled carbon nanotube (a-MWCNT) surface by electroless plating technique to avoid Ni nanoparticle agglomeration and guarantee high conductivity. The crystal structure, phase composition and surface morphology were characterized by XRD, SEM and TEM measurement. The as-prepared Ni/a-MWCNT nanohybrid was immobilized onto glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surface for constructing phenol sensor. The phenol sensing performance indicated that Ni/a-MWCNT/GCE exhibited an amazing detection performance with rapid response time of 4 s, a relatively wide detection range from 0.01 mM to 0.48 mM, a detection limit of $7.07{\mu}M$ and high sensitivity of $566.2{\mu}A\;mM^{-1}\;cm^{-2}$. The superior selectivity, reproducibility, stability and applicability in real sample of Ni/a-MWCNT/GCE endowed it with potential application in discharged wastewater.

This work reports the tunneling effects of the lateral field emitters. Tunneling effect is applicable to the VMFS(vacuum magnetic field sensors). VMFS uses the fact that the trajectory of the emitted electrons are curved by the magnetic field due to Lorentz force. Polysilicon was used as field emitters and anode materials. Thickness of the emitter and the anode were $2\;{\mu}m$, respectively. PSG(phospho-silicate-glass) was used as a sacrificial layer and it was etched by HF at a releasing step. Cantilevers were doped with $POCl_3(10^{20}cm^{-3})$. $2{\mu}m$-thick cantilevers were fabricated onto PSG($2{\mu}m$-thick). Sublimation drying method was used at releasing step to avoid stiction. Then, device was vacuum sealed. Device was fixed to a sodalime-glass #1 with silver paste and it was wire bonded. Glass #1 has a predefined hole and a sputtered silicon-film at backside. The front-side of the device was sealed with sodalime-glass #2 using the glass frit. After getter insertion via the hole, backside of the glass #1 was bonded electrostatically with the sodalime-glass #3 at $10^{-6}\;torr$. After sealing, getter was activated. Sealing was successful to operate the tunneling device. The packaged VMFS showed very small reduced emission current compared with the chamber test prior to sealing. The emission currents were changed when the magnetic field was induced. The sensitivity of the device was about 3%/T at about 1 Tesla magnetic field.

This paper presented a low-cost thick film gas sensor module, which was based on simple PCB (Printed Circuit Board) process. The proposed sensor module included a $NO_2/H_2$ gas sensor, a relative humidity sensor, and a heating element. The $NO_2/H_2$ gas and relative humidity sensors were realized by screen-printing $SnO_2,\;BaTiO_3$ nano-powders on IDTS (Interdigital Transducer) of a PCB substrate, respectively. At first 1% $H_2$ gas flowed into the sensor chamber. After 4 min, air filled the chamber while $H_2$ gas flow stopped. This experiment was performed repeatedly. The Identical procedure was used for the $NO_2$ detection. The result for sensing $H_2$ gas showed the increase of voltage from 0.8V to 3.5V due to the conductance increase and its reaction response time by hydrogen flow was 65 sec. $NO_2$ sensing results showed 2.7 V voltage drop due to the conductance decrease and its response time was 3 sec through a voltage monitoring.

Carbon nanotubes (CNT) has the excellent physical characteristics in the sensor, medicine, manufacturing and energy fields, and it has been studied in those fields for the several years. We fabricated the NOx gas sensors of MOS-FET type using the MWCNT. The fabricated sensor was used to detect the NOx gas for the variation of $V_{gs}$ (gate-source voltage) with the ambient temperature. The gas sensor absorbed the NOx gas molecules showed the decrease of resistance, and the sensitivity of sensor was reduced by the NOx gas molecules accumulated on the MWCNT surface. Furthermore, when the voltage ($V_{gs}$) was applied to the gas sensor, the term of the decrease in resistance was increased. On the other hand, the sensor sensitivity for the injection of NOx gas was the highest value at the ambient temperature of $40^{\circ}C$. We also obtained the adsorption energy ($40^{\circ}C$) using the Arrhenius plots by the reduction of resistance due to the $V_{gs}$ voltage variations. As a result, we obtained that the adsorption energy also was increased with the increasement of the applied $V_{gs}$ voltages.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have excellent electrical, chemical stability, mechanical and thermal properties. In this paper, networks of Multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) materials were investigated as resistive gas sensors for ethanol ($C_2H_5OH$) detection. Sensor films were fabricated by air spray method for the multi-walled CNTs solution on glass substrates. Sensors were characterized by resistance measurements in the sensing system, in order to find the optimum detection properties for the ethanol gas molecular. The film that was sprayed with the MWCNT dispersion for 60 see, was 300 nm thick. And the electric resistivity is $2{\times}10^{-2}\;{\Omega\cdot}cm$. Also, the sensitivity and the linearity of MWVNT sensor for ethanol gas are 0.389 %/sec and 17.541 %/FS, respectively. The MWCNT film was excellent in the response for the ethanol gas molecules and its reaction speed was very fast, which could be using as ethanol gas sensor. The conductance of the fabricated sensors decreases when the sensors are exposed to ethanol gas.
Here, we review the various methods for the preparation of vanadium dioxide ($VO_2$) films and nanowires, and their potential applications to the sensors such as gas sensor, strain sensor, and temperature sensor. $VO_2$ is an interesting material on account of its easily accessible and sharp Mott metal-insulator transition (MIT) at ${\sim}68^{\circ}C$ in the bulk. The MIT is also triggered by the electric field, stress, magnetic field etc. This paper involves exceptionally sensitive hydrogen sensors based on the catalytic process between hydrogen molecules and Pd nanoparticles on the $VO_2$ surface, and fast responsive sensors based on the self-heating effects which leads to the phase changes of the $VO_2$. These features will be seen in this paper and can enable strategies for the integration of a $VO_2$ material in advanced and complex functional units such as logic gates, memory, FETs for micro/nano-systems as well as the sensors.

The application of radio frequency identification (RFID) sensor-tags in cold chain systems has recently received a great deal of attention. To design cold chain systems with RFID sensor-tags that minimize the initial investment and operational cost while fulfilling the functional and operational requirements, simulation study is one of the preferable and effective approaches. To simulate the possible design configurations, the individual components in a cold chain system can be extracted and implemented as a DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) model. Based on the proposed DEVS model, a new cold chain simulation model can be efficiently created by simply connecting each DEVS model around the RFID sensor-tag of interest in sequence according to the structure of the cold chain system, and then executed (or simulated) on Java programming environments by the DEVSJAVA simulator. As a result of simulation, some key performance indexes such as reliability, accuracy or timeliness can be calculated and used to choose better components or to compare different system configurations of cold chain systems.
