  • This paper presents an analytical evaluation of a hybrid direct-sequence/slow frequencyhopped code division multiple-access (DS/SFH-CDMA) system employing noncoherent M-ary frequency shift keying(MFSK) modulation in a multiple Nakagami fading (m) environment. Multipath interference (MPI) and multi-access interference (MAI) is taken into account and the spectral efficiency is calculated for uncoded as well as channel coding systems. Predetection multipath maximal ratio combining (MRC) diversity in conjunction with interleaved channel coding (Hamming(7,4) code, BCH(15, 7) code and RS (7, 4), (15, 9)) code ) is employed for improving the bit error rate (BER) performance. The BER of noncoherent hybrid system is obtained using a Gaussian interference approximation.

  • The outage probability (OP) performance of multiple-relay-based incremental hybrid decode-amplify-forward (IHDAF) relaying mobile-to-mobile (M2M) networks with transmit antenna selection (TAS) over N-Nakagami fading channels is investigated in this paper. The closed-form expressions for approximate OP of the optimal and suboptimal TAS schemes are derived. The power allocation problem is formulated for performance optimization. Then the OP performance under different conditions is evaluated through numerical simulations to verify the analysis. The simulation results showed that optimal TAS scheme has a better OP performance than suboptimal TAS scheme; the power-allocation parameter has an important influence on the OP performance.

  • The performances of M-ary signals using L-branch maximum ratio combining (MRC) diversity reception in correlated Nakagami fading channels are derived theoretically. The coherent reception of M-ary differential phase shift keying (MDPSK), phase shift keying (MPSK), and quadrature amplitude modulation (MQAM) is considered. It is assumed that the fading parameters in each diversity branch are identical. The general formula for evaluating symbol error rate (SER) of M-ary signals in the independent branch diversity system is presented using the integral-form expressions. Until now, results did not extend to the various M-ary case for a coherent reception. The numerical results presented in this paper are expected to provide information for the design of radio system using M-ary modulation method for above mentioned channel environment.

  • We examine the DS/SSMA system which is employing coherent BPSK with RAKE receiver. We adop Nakagami m-distribution as a multipath fading model. First, we analyze the performances of the system in the single cell environment and obtain the other-cell interference according to power control error. And considering the other-cell interference into the analysis of single cell system, we examine the cellular CDMA network. The average BER and outage probability are the figures of merit that characterize the system performance. The required BER, 1E-3, and required outage probability are the figures of merit that characterize the system performance. The requeired BER, 1E-3, and required outage probability, 1% for the voice transmission is considered to acquire the capacity of system.

  • In this paper, the performance of a hybrid DS/SFH-SS(direct-sequence/slow-frequency-hopped spread-spectrum) system with coherent BPSK modulation over Nakagami fading channel in the presence of multiple tone jamming is analyzed. Because the Nakagami m-distribution can describe not only Rayleigh fading but also more general fluctuations involving a specular component by adjusting the value of the fading index m. It is known that for m=1 corresponds to Rayleigh fading, for $1/2{\le}m{\le}1$ corresponds to the worst case fading condition, for m>1 corresponds to Rician fading, and for $m{\to}{\infty}$ corresponds to the nonfading condition. The bit error probability is derived over Nakagami model and numerical evaluations are presented for some combinations of system parameters. The results show that as m increases, the bit error probability is better. Also, at a low JSR(jamming-to-signal power ratio), a pure DS-SS system can achieve lower bit error probability than a hybrid DS/SFH-SS system. But at a high JSR, a hybrid DS/SFH-SS system is shown to be superior to a pure DS-SS system. Therefore, it is demonstrated that without increasing the total system bandwidth, the performance of a hybrid DS/SFH-SS is superior to that of a pure DS-SS system in the presence of multiple tone jamming.

  • In this paper, the system performance with the selection diversity, which is applied to the FH/MFSK system in Nakagami fading channel, is analyzed. The deletion probability is derived from the received signal to noise ratio(SNR) after selection combining and the parameters such as the number of users(M), SNR, Nakagami fading figure(m), and the number of diversity branches(D) is used for the performance analysis of the FH/MFSK system. Assuming that m set 1, it is observed that the bit error rate(BER) is 1.0$\times$$10^{-3}$ and 1.0$\times$$10^{-4}$ at D =1(no diversity) and D=2, respectively, and then is decreased by 10 times. Assuming that m set 2, it is also shown that the BER has a constant value although D is increased. In the case of D=2, the system capacity is more 75% and 20% than that considering no diversity at SNR=15 dB and 25 dB, respectively.

  • Recently, efficient partial relay selection (e-PRS) was proposed as an enhanced version of PRS. In comparing e-PRS, PRS, and the best relay selection (BRS), there is a tradeoff between complexity and performance; that is, the complexity for PRS, e-PRS, and BRS is low to high, respectively, but vice versa for performance. In this paper, we study the outage probability for e-PRS in decode-and-forward (DF) relaying systems over non-identical Nakagami-m fading channels, where the fading parameter m is an integer. In particular, we provide closed-form expressions of the exact outage probability and asymptotic outage probability for e-PRS in DF relaying systems. Numerical results show that e-PRS achieves similar outage performance to that of BRS for a low or medium signal-to-noise ratio, a high fading parameter, a small number of relays, and a large difference between the average channel powers for the first and the second hops.

  • In this paper, the throughput performance of an ARQ scheme is analyzed with noisy feedback channel, in order to exactly analysis for performance of an ARQ scheme. An ARQ mechanism is presented by state diagram, and the throughput of an ARQ scheme is mathematically derived using generation function for a signal flow graph. The channel is modeled by the Nakagami-m fading channel which is distributed over far and wide, and the throughput performance of an ARQ scheme, which is applied in BPSK and BFSK systems, according to feedback gain and fading index m is analyzed through computer simulation. In the results, It is shown conformed that the throughput of an ARQ scheme decreased according to the increase of the noise for feedback channel, but it increased according to the increase of the feedback gain and fading index m. Also, it is shown that the throughput of an ARQ scheme using BPSK system is superior to BFSK system because of the difference of bit error probability between BPSK and BFSK systems.

  • Spectrum sensing is a key technical challenge for cognitive radio (CR). It is well known that multi-cycle cyclostationarity (MC) detector is a powerful method for spectrum sensing. However, conventional MC detector is difficult to implement due to its high computational complexity. This paper pays attention to the fact that the computation complexity can be reduced by simplifying the test statistic of conventional MC detector. Based on this simplification process, an improved MC detector is proposed. Compared with the conventional one, the proposed detector has the low-computational complexity and sufficient-accuracy on sensing performance. Subsequently, the sensing performances are further investigated for the cases of Rayleigh, Nakagami-m, Rician, composite Rayleigh fading-lognormal shadowing and composite Nakagami fading-lognormal shadowing channels, respectively. Furthermore, the square-law combining (SLC) is introduced to improve the detection capability over fading-shadowing channels. The corresponding closed-form expressions of average detection probability are derived for each case by the moment generation function (MGF) approach. Finally, illustrative and analytical results show that the efficiency and reliability of proposed detector and the improvement on sensing performance by SLC over composite fading-shadowing channels.

  • We derive and analyze the exact closed-form expression for the average bit error probability (BEP) of M-ary square quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) for diversity reception in frequency-nonselective Nakagami fading. A maximal ratio combining (MRC) diversity technique with independent or correlated fading cases are considered. Numerical results demonstrate error performance improvement with the use of MRC diversity reception. The presented new expressions offer a convenient way to evaluate the performance of M-ary square QAM with an MRC diversity combiner for various cases of practical interest.
