This study was to investigate the changes of phytotoxicity of food waste during composting at an aerated static pile for 80 days. The concentration of sodium in the final compost increased by more than 30% and almost of the sodium was a water soluble type which corresponds to about 94% of the total concentration. Major volatile fatty acid(VFA) produced during the composting was acetic acid and also somewhat of butyric acid. High concentration of acetic acid during the composting was kept up for a month and then decreased progressively. It suggests that the phytotoxicity by the VFAs produced during composting of food waste could be removed through a stabilization process in a period of about 40 days. From the statistical analysis between germination index(G.I.) and VFAs. or G.I. and sodium, the phytotoxicity of food waste samples was more dependent in the changes of acetic acid concentration than that of sodium concentration. Considering low G.I. value in the final food waste compost which is matured completely, however. the agricultural utilization of the food waste compost may be to have a big problem due to excess sodium of the compost which is impossible to remove by composting and seriously inhibits growth of plants.
As the Internet becomes more popular, many people use it to communicate. With the increasing number of personal homepages, blogs, and social network services, people often expose their personal information online. Although the necessity of those services cannot be denied, we should be concerned about the negative aspects such as personal information leakage. Because it is impossible to review all of the past records posted by all of the people, an automatic personal information detection method is strongly required. This study proposes a method to detect or classify online documents that contain personal information by analyzing features that are common to personal information related documents and learning that information based on the Na$\ddot{i}$ve Bayes algorithm. To select the document classification algorithm, the Na$\ddot{i}$ve Bayes classification algorithm was compared with the Vector Space classification algorithm. The result showed that Na$\ddot{i}$ve Bayes reveals more excellent precision, recall, F-measure, and accuracy than Vector Space does. However, the measurement level of the Na$\ddot{i}$ve Bayes classification algorithm is still insufficient to apply to the real world. Lewis, a learning algorithm researcher, states that it is important to improve the quality of category features while applying learning algorithms to some specific domain. He proposes a way to incrementally add features that are dependent on related documents and in a step-wise manner. In another experiment, the algorithm learns the additional dependent features thereby reducing the noise of the features. As a result, the latter experiment shows better performance in terms of measurement than the former experiment does.
The purpose of this study was to compare effects of insulin and IGFs on growth, apical membrane enzyme activities and membrane transport systems of primary cultured rabbit kidney proximal tubule cells. Results were as follows: 1. Insulin and IGF-I produced significant growth stimulatory effects at $5{\times}10^{-10}M.\;IGF-II(5×10^{-10}\;M)$ did not stimulate significant cell growth. 2. Insulin stimulated the phosphorylation of a 97 KD protein. It was difficult to determine whether this band represents insulin and/or the IGF-I receptor. 3. The activities of apical membrane enzymes (alkaline phosphatase, leucine aminopeptidase, and ${\gamma}-glutamyl \;transpeptidase)$ were observed to be diminished after the cells were placed in the culture environment. 4. The uptake of ${\alpha}-MG,$ Pi and Na was significantly increased in cells incubated with insulin or IGF-I, IGF-II had no effect on the uptake of these substrates. 5. Na-pump activity, as assayed by Rb uptake, was significantly increased in cells treated with insulin or IGFs. In conclusion, insulin and IGF-I exert stimulatory effects on growth and membrane transporter(glucose, Na, Pi, and Na-pump) activities in primary cultured rabbit kidney proximal tubule cells. IGF-II had no effect on cell growth and membrane transporter(glucose, Na and Pi) activities.
I investigated Korean college students' conception about the volume change of solution when they detected the equivalence point during acid/base titration experiment using method of volume measurement. According to this study, most college students had a misconception that the volume increment was due to the formation of water by neutralization during acid/base titration. However, this is not enough to explain the volume change, neglecting contribution of a salt in solution. I calculated the partial molar volume of NaCl formed to explain the volume increment of solution during HCl/NaOH neutralization. Comparing the result of experiment with the calculation of partial molar volume, I elucidated that the main effect of volume increment was due to the partial molar volume of NaCl formed during HCl/NaOH neutralization. Here I propose to introduce college students to the concept of partial molar volume of the salt formed to reduce misconception about the volume change of solution during acid/base neutralization.
The interaction of $NpO^+_2$ with $Cl^-$ was studied using visible-near-infrared spectroscopy in $NaCl-Ca-Cl_2-NaClO_4$, $NaCl-NaClO_4$, and $CaCl_2-NaClO_4$ solutions with ionic strength (I) of 6M. The spectra of $NpO^+_2$ around 980 nm varied with $Cl^-$ concentration in the $NaCl-CaCl_2-NaClO_4$ and $NaCl-NaClO_4$ solutions at [$Cl^-$] ${\geq}3.5M$, but not in the $CaCl_2-NaClO_4$ solution. Assuming the 1:1 interaction between $NpO^+_2$ and $Cl^-$, the apparent equilibrium constants at I = 6M were evaluated. The presence of $Ca^{2+}$ was found to destabilize overall interaction between $NpO^+_2$ and $Cl^-$. The observations were consistent with the density functional theory calculation.

Hypericin (1,3,4,6,8,13-hexahydroxy-10,11-dimethylphenanthro[1,10,9,8-opqra]perylene-7,14-dione), an antidepressant which is also known to be a potent protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitor was synthesized as a precursor for radioiodine labeling via two step reactions. Malignant glioma cells express higher PKC activity compared to untransformed glial cell. Here we report the synthesis and radioiodine labeling of hypericin as a potential brain tumor imaging radiopharmaceutical. The reference compound, 2-iodohypericin, and its radiolabelled analogues, 2-[$^{123}I$]iodohypericin and 2-[$^{124}I$]iodohypericin have been prepared by the reaction of hypericin with NaI or [$^{123}I$]NaI or [$^{124}I$]NaI. The labeling yield was 60-65% for each analogue and the optimal reaction time was 10 min. The purification and isolation of the labelled products were achieved by a reversed-phase HPLC.
The forming conditions of X-ray storage phosrhors $BaFBr_{1-x}I_x:Eu^{2+}$, $Na^+$ have been investigated, and measured the PSL emission spectra and its intensity, fading characteristics and does dependence of the prepared phosphors. These characteristics were compared with those of commercial image plate (ST-III) obtained from Fuji Photo Film Co. The optimal preparing conditions of $BaFBr_{1-x}I_x:Eu^{2+}$, $Na^+$ Phosphor were 0.5 mol% of $EuF_3$, 4.0 mol% of NaF and composition ratio x=0.3, and the sintering temperature were $950^{\circ}C$ in $H_2$ atmosphere. When the composition ratio x was equal to 0, the spectral range of the luminescence of $BaFBr_{1-x}I_x:Eu^{2+}$, $Na^+$ phosphor was $365{\sim}420\;nm$, and its maximum luminescence intensity appeared at 390 nm. When composition ratio x was not equal to 0, the wavelength ranges and peak of the spectra were shifted to the longer wavelength with the growth of composition ratio x. A good linearity was shown between the PSL intensity and X-ray irradiation dose. The phosphor sample with x=0.3 exhibited better fading characteristics than that of other $BaFBr_{1-x}I_x:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor samples, and the fading characteristics of the PSL intensity at room temperature were shown poorer with increasing $I^-$ ion concentration. The lattice constant of the phosphor becomes larger with increasing the $I^-$ ion concentration.

Spherical NaI(Tl) detectors are used in gamma-ray spectrometry, where the gamma emissions come from the nuclei with energies in the range from a few keV up to 10 MeV. A spherical detector is aimed to give a good response to photons, which depends on their direction of travel concerning the detector center. Some distortions in the response of a gamma-ray detector with a different geometry can occur because of the non-uniform position of the source from the detector surface. The present work describes the calibration of a NaI(Tl) spherical detector using both an experimental technique and a numerical simulation method (NSM). The NSM is based on an efficiency transfer method (ETM, calculating the effective solid angle, the total efficiency, and the full-energy peak efficiency). Besides, there is a high probability for a source-to-detector distance less than 15 cm to have pulse coincidence summing (CS), which may occur when two successive photons of different energies from the same source are detected within a very short response time. Therefore, γ-γ ray CS factors are calculated numerically for a 152Eu radioactive cylindrical source. The CS factors obtained are applied to correct the measured efficiency values for the radioactive volumetric source at different energies. The results show a good agreement between the NSM and the experimental values (after correction with the CS factors).
In this study, a co-axial flow induced microfluidic chip to fabricate pure collagen type I microfiber via the control of collagen type I and Na-alginate gelation process. The pure collagen type I microfiber was generated by selective degradation of Ca-alginate from 'Core-Shell' structured hydrogel microfiber. To make 'Core-Shell' structure, collagen type I solution was introduced into core channel and 1.5% Na-alginate solution was injected into side channel in microfluidic chip. To evaluatethe 'Core-Shell' structure, the red and green fluorescence substances were mixed into collagen type I and Na-alginate solution, respectively. The fluorescence substances were uniformly loaded into each fiber, and the different fluorescence images were dependent on their location. By immoblizing EpH4-Ras and C6 cells within collagen type I and Na-alginate solution, we sucessfully demonstrated the co-culture of EpH4-Ras and C6 cells with 'Core-Shell' like hydrogel microfiber for 5 days. Only to produce pure collagen type I hydrogel fiber, tri-sodium citrate solution was used to dissolve the shell-like Ca-alginate hydrogel fiber from 'Core-Shell' structured hydrogel microfiber, which is an excellent advantage when the fiber is employed in three-dimensional scaffold. This novel method could apply various application in tissue engineering and biomedical engineering.
