  • In recent years, there has been an interest in early-injection diesel engines as it has the potential of achieving a more homogeneous and leaner mixture close to TDC compared to standard diesel engine. The more homogeneous mixture may result in reduced NOx and soot emissions and higher efficiency in homogeneous charge compression ignition engines. While earlier studies have shown that a reduction in NOx emissions from HCCI engine is possible, there are some significant problems including the control of ignition timing and combustion rate. In order to investigate the effect of EGR and hydrogen enriched gas on combustion characteristics and emissions, an experiments with single cylinder CRDi engine were carried out concerning the formation of various premixed charge, which can achieved by early injection, EGR and hydrogen enriched gas. EGR was not effective to further reduce NOx and PM emissions. It was found that NOx emissions were decreased with an introduction of hydrogen enriched gas and an adequate diesel fuel amount.

  • This study was done to analyze the condition of combustion exhaust gas that is produced according to incinerator operating condition in A area Kyonggido. The boiler exhaust gas temperature, the oxygen concentration of boiler, the outgassing temperature of Semi Drying Sorber(SDS), the temperature of catalytic reactor, the concentration of NOx, SOx, CO, Hcl and Dust were investigated by change the temperature of incinerator. The concentration of SOx, CO, HCL and DUST were below 5 ppm as increase the temperature of incinerator however the concentration of NOx was increased from 40 ppm to 70 ppm as increase the temperature of incinerator. The boiler exhaust gas temperature and the temperature of catalytic reactor were not changed however the oxygen concentration of boiler was decreased gradually as increase the temperature of incinerator.

  • This paper describes on the NOx/CO emission characteristics, temperature characteristics and flame structures when firing coal derived synthetic gas especially for gases of Buggenum and Taean IGCC. These combustion characteristics were observed by conducting ambient-pressure elevated-temperature combustion tests in GE7EA model combustor when varying heat input and nitrogen dilution ratio. Nitrogen addition caused decrement in adiabatic flame temperature, thus resulting in the NOx reduction. At low heat input condition, nitrogen dilution raised the CO emission dramatically due to incomplete combustion. These NOx reduction and CO arising phenomena were observed at certain flame temperature of $1500^{\circ}C$ and $1250^{\circ}C$, respectively. As increasing nitrogen dilution, adiabatic flame temperature and combustor liner temperature were decreased and singular points were detected due to change in flame structure such as flame lifting. From the results, the effect of nitrogen dilution on the NOx/CO and flame structure was examined, and the test data will be utilized as a reference to achieve optimal operating condition of the Taean IGCC demonstration plant.

  • Diesel engines are widely used due to superior power and fuel consumption, however there are many challenges in exhaust gas management. Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is the most effective technique for reducing mono-nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in a diesel engine, in comparison with other catalytic technologies. In addition, the technology has a number of advantages in terms of economic efficiency and implementation. In this study, the effects on the power and exhaust characteristics of diesel engines equipped with EGR systems were investigated. It was found that as the EGR rate increased, horsepower expressed as IHP and BHP decreased. The net effect of the application of EGR was measured at various engine speeds. EGR technology caused decreases in BHP of around 9% during low engine speed and 3.5% during high engine speed. Additionally, NOx emissions reduced as the EGR rate increased, and increased as engine speed increased. However, smoke emissions increased as the EGR rate increased, and decreased as engine speed increased. The optimum operating conditions and ERG rate to simultaneously achieve minimum NOx and smoke emissions were investigate. It was found that as the EGR rate increased, optimal operating speed for minimal NOx and smoke also increased. • This work presents an experimental investigation of NOx emissions according to inlet air temperature (550-660 K), stoichiometric air ratio (${\lambda}$, 1.4-2.1), and elevated pressure (2-5 bar) in a High Press Combustor (HPC) equipped with a double cone burner, which was designed by Pusan Clean Coal Center (PC3). The exhaust-gas temperature and NOx emissions were measured at the end of the combustion chamber. The NOx emissions generally decreased as a function of increasing ${\lambda}$. On the other hand, NOx emissions were influenced by ${\lambda}$, inlet air temperature and pressure of the combustion chamber. In particular, when the inlet air temperature increased, the flammability limit was extended to leaner conditions. As a result, a higher adiabatic temperature and lower NOx emissions could be achieved under these operation conditions. The NOx emissions that were governed by thermal NOx were greatly increased under elevated pressures, and slightly increased at sufficiently low fuel concentrations (${\lambda}$ >1.8).

  • NOx sensors using tungsten oxide films as a base material were prepared and their electrical and sensing characteristics have been investigated. The $WO_{3}$ thick films doped with $SnO_{2}$ or $TiO_{2}$ showed higher sensitivity and better sorption characteristics to NOx gas than the pure $WO_{3}$ films material in air at operating temperature of $400^{\circ}C$. By addition of noble catalysts, such as Ru or Au, to the $TiO_{2}-WO_{3}$ thick films, their sensitivity, recovery and selectivity to NOx gas were found to be more enhanced.

  • This paper concerns lean gas cyclone combustion system adopting distributed inlets with different velocity to promote ignition and burnout properties. Detailed temperature measurements have been achieved under different operating conditions and flue gas compositions and NOx have been measured. Experimental results show that cyclone combustor provided increasing combustion stability and reduction NOx emission level to negligible level.

  • Recently, a cement plays an important roll in the materials field. So, in this research we would like to study on the properties of waste gas reduction in the photocatalytic cement. The fundamental phenomena of waste gas reduction in the photocatalytic cement were observed by the NOx analyzer with reaction chamber, UV Lamp, MFC, and humidity control bath. As a result of this study, the photocatalytic cement used photocatalytic powder, admixture and other materials can obtain NOx gas reduction and its photocatalytic efficiency. Developing for the photocatalytic cement, we need a various study.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the NOx emission of turbulent diffusion flame formed in the after burner, which is located on the waste gas coming out from the test furnace. Three types of flame was tested and each of which was changed by adequate equivalence ratio. It is necessary to study more about NOx reduction effect in the after burner system.
