재연소 과정을 적용한 연소로에서 공기 다단 연소기의 NOx 발생 및 열전달에 대한 효과 (Effect of a Multi Air-staged Burner on NOx Formation and Heat Transfer in Furnace Adopted the Reburning Process)

  • An experimental study has been conducted to investigate the effects of a multi air-staged burner on NOx formation and heat transfer in a 15kW large-scale laboratory furnace adopted the reburning process. The reburn fuel as well as burnout air was injected from each nozzle attached at the wall of the cylindrical furnace. Fuel in both main burner and reburn nozzle was LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). The paper reports the influences on NOx reduction of reburn fuel fraction in reburning zone. Temperature distribution inside the overall region as well as total heat flux at the wall of the furnace has been measured to examine the heat transfer characteristics due to the reburning process. For comparison, the reburning effects were examined for a combustor with two types of burner; a regular single staged burner and a multi-air staged burner. A gas analysis was also performed to evaluate an appropriate condition for NOx emission in a primary zone for the excess air ratio of 1.1. As a result, combustion efficiency expected to become more efficient due to the reduction of heat loss in burnout zone decrease when multi air-staged burner in furnace adopted reburning technology was used.

  • The combustion process within a porous inert medium (PIM) burner is numerical studied. A detailed chemical reaction scheme including thermal and prompt NO$_{x}$ reactions is used to predict the formation and destruction of pollutants such as NO$_{x}$ and CO. The reaction paths for NO$_{x}$ formation are divided to quantify the amount of NO$_{x}$ formed through thermal NO$_{x}$ reaction or through prompt NO$_{x}$ reaction. Emission index is calculated to compare the actual mass of NO$_{x}$ or CO produced through the combustion of unit mass of fuel. It is found NO formation in PIM burner is confined in flame zone and formation is suppressed due to heat loss at down-stream of the flame. Higher production of NO through prompt NO reaction path is observed due to the higher concentration of fuel derivative species and its higher diffusion at flame front. For all equivalence ratios, CO emission within PIM burner is lower than that from the one-dimensional freely-propagating flame. PIM burner flame has better NO$_{x}$ emission index from .psi. = 0.75 to .psi. = 1.1. to .psi. = 1.1.

  • This paper was investigated the behaviors of the engine and combustion phenomena for various LPG compositions in the semi-return type system, which is not recircurated to LPG tank through furl rail, applied LPi engine during a cold idle condition and including a cold start of the engine. Cyclic HC and NOx emissions were measured at exhaust port to examine their formation mechanical and reduction mechanical with fast response gas analyzers. Various ignition timing is experimented to study the characteristics of combustion phenomena, HC/NOx emissions during fast idle. Also, this study was investigated start delay time, cylinder pressure, HC/NOx emissions, Mass Fraction Burned, starting time to evaluate performance of transient cold startability. Compared to the return type system, the semi-return type system have advantages in point of production cost and equivalent performance of engine starting time and pressure settling time.

The Effect of Fuel Injection Timing on the Combustion and Emission Characteristics of a Natural Gas Fueled Engine at Part Loads

  • For a sequential port fuel injection natural gas engine, its combustion and emission characteristics at low loads are crucial to meet light duty vehicle emission regulations. Fuel injection timing is an important parameter related to the mixture formation in the cylinder. Its effect on the combustion and emission characteristics of a natural gas engine were investigated at 0.2 MPa brake mean effective pressure (BMEP)/2000 rpm and 0.26 MPa BMEP/1500 rpm. The results show that early fuel injection timing is beneficial to the reduction of the coefficient of variation (COV) of indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP) under lean burn conditions and to extending the lean burn limits at the given loads. When relative air/fuel ratio is over 1.3, fuel injection timing has a relatively large effect on engine.out emissions. The levels of NOx emissions are more sensitive to the fuel injection timing at 0.26 MPa BMEP/1500 rpm. An early fuel injection timing under lean burn conditions can be used to control engine out NOx emissions.

  • IGCC용 가스터빈 연소기의 중발열량 가스 연료 대체성 및 호환성 검토를 위한 전산유체역학적 연구를 수행하였다. 연소기 전산해석 방법은 기존의 상용 CFD코드의 해석체계에 중발열량 가스연료의 화학반응 모델 및 fuel NOx 모델등을 추가적으로 결합하여 구성하였다. 본 해석방법을 이용하여, 천연가스와 IGCC 용 대체가스(석탄가스, 중잔사유 가스) 연소시의 연소기 내부 유동속도, 화학종, 온도 분포들과 화염 형상 및 거동을 비교하였고, 더 나아가 NOx 생성특성과 터빈과의 matching 조건도 분석하였다. 이러한 전산해석결과들을 바탕으로, 본 연구는 중발열량 가스를 대체연료로 사용하는 IGCC용 가스터빈 연소기의 설계 개선 및 재설계 방향을 제시하였다.

  • An Experimental study was conducted on spray combustion using dual swirlers at different outlet angle; co-swirl and counter-swirl. To understand the characteristics of turbulent spray combustion of dual swirl flow (DSF), the axial helical annular vaned swirlers with various swirl ratios and combination of angle and direction were designed. and temperature measurements of a rapidly thermocouple insertion and measurements of soot volume fraction and microrstructure using thermophoretic sampling particle diagnostic (TSPD) as TEM were carried out. The NOx, $CO_2$, $O_2$, etc. was analyzed using emission gas analyzer. The results show that flame stability were maintained under very lean condition. for both co-swirl and counter-swirl case. And though Counter-swirl case kept the higher temperature region compared to co-swirl case, Counter-swirl combustion represented less NOx emission and soot formation than co-swirl case.

CuO/γ-Al2O3 흡수제/촉매를 이용한 SOx/NOx 제거 반응특성 (Reaction Characteristics of SOx/NOx Removal Using CuO/γ-Al2O3 Sorbent/Catalyst)

  • 열중량분석기와 관형 고정층 반응기에서 $CuO/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ 흡수제/촉매의 SOx와 NOx 동시제거 반응특성에 대하여 고찰하였다. $CuO/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ 흡수제/촉매의 아황산가스 제거능은 반응온도 $450^{\circ}C$와 담지량 6wt% 이상에서 담체인 알루미나의 반응참여에 의하여 급격히 증가하였다. $CuO/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ 흡수제/촉매의 탈질 효율은 반응온도, $370^{\circ}C$에서 최대값을 보였으며 그 이상의 온도에서는 $NH_3$가스의 산화반응에 의하여 반응온도가 증가할수록 제거효율은 감소하였다. 흡수제/촉매 표면에 sulfate가 존재하는 경우 최대 탈질 효율을 보이는 반응온도는 증가하였다. SOx와 NOx 동시 제거반응에서 $CuO/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ 흡수제/촉매의 NO제거 활성은 $NH_4HSO_4$와 같은 암모늄염의 생성으로 인하여 크게 감소하였다. SOx와 NOx 동시제거 반응에 있어서 최대의 탈질 효율을 보이는 반응온도는 $SO_2$ 가스의 존재로 인하여 $400^{\circ}C$로 증가하였다.

관류보일러에서 화염분할 VIStA 버너의 연소특성 (Combustion Characteristics of a VIStA Burner Dividing Flame in a Once-Through Type Boiler)

  • 본 연구에서는 VIStA (Vortex Inertial Staged Air) 버너를 개조하여 관류보일러에 적용하였다. 2차 공기를 노즐을 통해 공급하던 원형과 달리 선회기를 통해 공급함으로써 화염을 안정화하고 일산화탄소(CO)의 발생량을 저감하였다. 그러나, 이러한 개조과정에서 질소산화물(NOx)의 발생이 증가하는 문제가 발생하였다. CO와 NOx 발생량을 함께 제어하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 화염분할을 적용하였다. VIStA 버너는 2개의 연소실이 있고 각각의 연소실에 공급되는 공기량을 댐퍼로 조절하며 3가지 종류의 화염분할 장치를 설계, 장착하여 공기비, 연소부하에 따른 연소 특성을 파악하였다. 화염분할을 통하여 CO 농도 증가는 10 ppm 이내로 유지하면서 NOx의 발생량은 25%까지 저감하는 결과를 얻었다.

비단열 화염편 모델을 이용한 Mild Combustor의 연소특성 해석 (A Study on Characteristics of Mild Combustion using the Radiative Flamelet Model)

  • Mild combustion or Flameless oxidation(FLOX) have been considered as one of the most prospective clean-combustion technologies to meet both the targets of high process efficiency and low pollutant emissions. A mild combustor with high air preheating and strong internal exhaust gas recirculation is characterized by relatively low flame temperature, low NOx emissions, no visible flame and no sound. In this study, the Steady Flamelet Approach has been applied to numerically analyze the combustion processes and NOx formation in the mild combustor. The detailed discussion has been made f3r the basic characteristics of mild combustor, numerical results and limitation of the present combustion modeling.

디젤엔진의 부분 예혼합 연소 및 배기 특성에 대한 분사전략의 영향 (Effects of Injection Strategies on the Partial Premixed Charge Combustion and Emission Characteristics in a Diesel Engine)

  • Recently, PCCI (premixed charge compression ignition) combustion is studied to reduce both NOx and PM because of homogeneous mixture formation and lower combustion temperature. It has also merit of increasing thermal efficiency owing to better air-fuel mixure. However, it is well known that PCCI combustion has a weakness in fuel economy because PCCI combustion tends to start before TDC. Therefore, it is necessary to find an optimal conditions for PCCI combustion which maintains reduction of NOx, PM and increase of thermal efficiency. In this study, pPCCI combustion was realized by adding early injection strategy to a conventional diesel engine. In addition, the characteristics of pPCCI combustion was analized by comparing conventional diesel injection strategy. The results show that NOx and PM per power in pPCCI combution were reduced compared to a conventional diesel combustion.
