This paper investigates the semantics of English there existential sentences. By examining discourse functions and pragmatic facts, it accounts for semantic facts which have not been discussed elsewhere. Further, it is a new attempt to incorporate information-theoretic notions into formal semantics. I propose that existential statements as expressing Austinian propositions. The proposed meanings account for the fact that post-copular NPs cannot constitute the restruction of an adverb of quantification nor admit a partitive reading.

This paper presents a new speed sensorless control method of permanent magnet synchronous motors based on instantaneous reactive power. The proposed system is constructed in a synchronously rotating reference frame and is very simple. The new approach is not dependent upon the stator resistance, nor is it affected by mechanical motor parameters. The effectiveness of the proposed system is confirmed by the simulation results.

In the real environment, it is very limited for the trainees to participate the effective training using actual training equipments by themselves and also to simulate several hazard situations for safety because of the direct exposure to the hazards of the actual system. But the virtual environment(VE) can help the trainees to get the effective training participating by themselves and to simulate all kind of possible situation without the exposure to the hazards of the actual system. In this paper, the nor· developed VE system for safety training is introduced. The system is more effective and economic one than the other system developed in Japan.

A series of 2-phenyl-5-nitrobenzimidazoles substituted at the para positon of the 2-phenyl moiety was synthesized ＆ evaluated for their activity to inhibit topoisomerase I. The structure-activity relationship study revealed that neither the electronic nor lipophilic parameters were related to the topoisomerase I inhibition. A strict spatial requirement seems to be present for retention of topoisomerase I inhibition activity.

The global coordinates generated from Isomap algorithm provide a simple way to analyze and manipulate high dimensional observations in terms of their intrinsic nonlinear degrees of freedom. Thus, Isomap can find globally meaningful coordinates and nonlinear structure of complex data sets, while neither principal component analysis (PCA) nor multidimensional scaling (MDS) are successful in many cases. It is demonstrated that the adapted Isomap algorithm successfully enhances the quality of pattern classification for damage identification in various numerical examples.

현재의 통신망에서는 clock recovery, regeneration 등을 전기적으로 처리하고 있으나 처리속도의 한계가 있고, 미래의 초고속 네트웍은 이러한 전기적 신호처리의 속도한계를 극복하는 기술이 필요하다. 그러므로, 고속의 광교환과 광신호처리 등 광신호를 전기적으로 바꾸거나 제어하지 않고 전광으로 처리하는 기술에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있으며 이러한 전광신호 처리에 고속의 전광 논리소자가 요구된다. 초기의 전광 논리소자 연구에서는 AND, OR, NOR, XOR 등의 기본 논리 기능이 주로 구현되었으며 이를 활용하여 Shift Register, Binary counter, 전광 반가산기, 직/병렬 데이터 변환기와 같은 복합기능 논리소자의 구현 연구가 이루어지고 있다. Effects of Alismatis water extract (AE) on the blood pressure were investigated in the rabbit and the dog. AE, when administered into the vein of rabbit and dog, into the lateral ventricle of rbbit, produced fall of blood pressure. The depressor response of the rabbits to intravenous AE was abolished by treatment with atropine, but not with chlorisondamine weakened the depressor effect of AE. Intravenous AE in this rabbit produced secondary elevation of the blood pressure. AE potentiated the pressor response of the rabbit to norepinephrine and tyramine, but nor to angiotensin, acetylcholine, and DMPP.

Motion detection is an important step in computer vision and image processing. Traditional motion detection systems are classified into two categories, namely, feature based and gradient based. In feature based motion detection, features in consecutive frames are detected and matched. Gradient based methods assume that the intensity varies linearly and locally. The method, which we propose, is neither feature nor gradient based but uses the electric field theory. The pixels in an image are modeled as point charges and motion is detected by using the variations between the two electric fields produced by the charges corresponding to the two images.

In 1940, B. H. Neumann, working with a system more general than a near-field, proved that the additive group of such a system (and of a near-field) is commutative. The algebraic structure he used is known as a Neumann system (N-system). Here, the prime N-systems are classified and for each possible characteristic, examples of N-systems which are neither near-fields nor rings are given. It is also shown that a necessary condition for the set of all odd polynomials over GF(p) to be an N-system is that p is a Fermat prime.

Every year in Europe, soils covering an area larger than the city of Berlin are lost to urban sprawl and transport infrastructure. Soil sealing causes an irreversible loss of the biological functions of soil. As water can neither infiltrate nor evaporate, water runoff increases, sometimes leading to catastrophic floods. Landscapes are fragmented and habitats become too small or too isolated to support certain species. In addition, the food production potential of land is lost forever. There is an urgent need to use this valuable resource more wisely, in order to secure its many vital services for future generations. The EU faces new territorial challenges.
