Study on Applicability of NATM Composite Lining Method (NATM Composite 라이닝 공법의 적용성 연구)

  • This paper presents the applicability of NATM Composite Lining method in domestic tunnel construction sites. Firstly, in order to produce high quality PC Panel, optimal steam curing condition is reviewed. And in preparation for fire inside the tunnel, the fire-resistance test of PC Panel is carried out. The constructability of NATM Composite Lining method and the drainage ability of light-weight foamed mortar is also evaluated through field construction test. And PC Panel combination program is developed to calculate the quantity of PC Panel efficiently. Besides, economic evaluation for NATM Composite Lining method is conducted. From this research, it is clearly found that NATM Composite Lining method is applicable to domestic tunnel construction site.

  • It is easily found by several references of NATM that the cracks on the lining concrete of NATM are more developed than those of the conventional tunnel methods. Based on the results of research, the new method is proposed to control and protect the axial cracks on the tunnel linings. Also, the efficiency of proposed method is evaluated using the Distinct Element Method.

  • To compare the global warming impact of the TBM and NATM method, which are representative tunnel excavation methods, a life cycle assessment was performed for each method. Life cycle assessment should compare the sum of carbon emissions by considering the pre-manufacturing stage, product manufacturing stage, usage stage, and disposal stage. However, access to TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) manufacturing and disposal data is limited, so I had no choice but to focus on the analysis for the usage stage. In general, carbon emissions during the pre-product manufacturing stage and product manufacturing stage often exceed 90% of carbon emissions throughout the entire process. Therefore, since it is difficult to achieve the analysis goal only by comparing the usage stage, the analysis scope was expanded, and carbon emissions for the process were calculated for the NATM method with access to manufacturing data. As a result of comparing the relative impact on global warming, the carbon emissions of the TBM method were found to be higher than those of the NATM method even though TBM method was only considered for the usage stage. So there it is, the NATM method can be seen as environmentally friendly in the future when considering the impact of climate change (global warming), which has recently attracted attention among environmental impact fields.

  • NATM technic had been applied to Nakaya tunnel of Sin kan express R.R lines in 1975. on the worst expandable geological conditions, application of NATM method was carried out good result. Measurement data which include convergencymeter, inclinometer, extensometor load-cell, strain gage data of shotcrete stress and steel arch. was explained with slides. Induced NATM technic has been improved since 1975 as follows, specially adhesive method of shotcrete instead of spray method such as tunnel swift lining Sliding press lining, clean lining by pumping and sweeping tote lining ets.

  • This paper presents the fundamental parameters for designing the NATM Composite Lining to be used in NATM tunnel construction. Firstly, the concept of NATM Composite Lining behaviour is introduced and reviewed in construction-performance. For the fundamental study, the optimal mix ratio tests and backfill material property tests to develop high-quality composite lining (PC panel lining) are fundamentally carried out. And the light-weight foamed mortar which is used for backfill material is developed. Full-scale loading tests to verify a performance of the NATM Composite Lining is also performed. From this research, it is clearly found that the NATM Composite Lining is very applicable method to considerably increase the stability and constructability of tunnel structure.

A Study On a Method of Improvement From Domestic NATM Case (NATM 시공 사고 사례에 의한 개선방안 연구)

  • NATM as method of tunneling has been applied to construction of domestic subway, roads, rail way, water way etc. Accordingly, we have NATM's many drafts and constructional results, but many problems and accidents have occurred under construction of tunnel using NATM for shortage of technical data. Poorness of constructional improvement, systemic inconsistency etc. Especially, everyone was shocked at Gupo's train wrecking accident lately. The purpose of this thesis is presentation of means for setting technical problems, by looking into Gupo's train wrecking accident and home records that applying NATM in tunneling failed, to minimize future safety accidents we find that the general problems of home fifteen sites having occured accidents is badly geological survey, nonconfirmationi of base rock's state, formal measuring management, shortage of specialists, systemical discrepancy and that disregarding NATM's rules makes general problems. The results of this study are Summarised as follows : 1. We advise repletion of design standards to practice crosshole test for confirming connected rock base on vertical section of tunnel. 2. We advise to practice pre0boring and pre-grouting for a weak layer difficult in applying NATM. 3. We advise systemic improvements that field servicer can construct tunnel of his own free will considering base rock's state at tunnel . 4. We advise that specialist, who can make a conduct and supervise above mentioned items as well as measuring management, should be posted at field.

  • NATM has been applied most of tunnel design and construction in Korea these days. But, if you observe the tunnel designing method and construction conditions, you can see that the NATM isn's usually the most suitable to Korean geology. Also most of engineers feel that it is necessary to understand the NATM correctly adn to introduce another tunnelling principle which can be applied more economically and safely. So, we'd like to introduce a new tunnelling concept. Norwegian Method of Tunnelling(NMT) by comparing the NATM. The main character of NMT is that the forward prediction of conditions and the support of tunnel is done through geological investigation in details. And it can be compared with NATM, in which the support pattern is decided by monitoring of tunnel deformation on the construction.

Mechanical properties of coating of NATM resin on Stainless Steel (스테인레스 스틸에 대한 NATM 수지의 코팅에 대한 기계적 특성)

  • The mechanical properties of NATM resin were measured by SEM, FT-IR spectra, tensile properties, mole % of [NCO/OH], and particle size analyzer on stainless steel. Growing concerns in the environment-friendly NATM resin, we have synthesized the solvent-free NATM resin to be coating on metals such as stainless. The properties of the synthesized NATM resin to be contained polyols, MDI, silicone surfactant, fillers and crosslink agents(diethyltoluene diamine, anhydrosorbitol), that they have highly stronger in intensity and longer durability than general NATM resin to be contained polyols, IPDI, silicone surfactant, fillers in general packing materials and coatings. The rigid segments of polyurethane in mechanical properties of coatings were due to cross linkage and the increase mole % of [NCO/OH]. In conclusion, the NATM microstructure with cross linkage can be good material for coating of anticorrosion of metal substrates such as stainless steel.
