  • A method of design optimization for minimization of force ripple and maximization of thrust force in a linear brushless permanent magnet motor without finite element analysis is represented. The design optimization method calculated the driving force in the function of electric and geometric parameters of a linear brushless PM motor using the sequential quadratic programming method. Using electric and geometric parameters obtained by this method, the normalized force ripple is reduced 7.7% (9.7% to 2.0%) and the thrust force is increased 12.88N (111.55N to 124.43N) compared to those not using design optimization.

  • An n-point design is maximal fan if all the models with n-terms satisfying the divisibility condition are estimable. Such designs tend to be space filling and look very similar to the ″Latin-hypercube″ designs used in computer experiments. Caboara, Pistone, Riccomago and Wynn (1997) conjectured that a maximal fan design on an integer grid exists for any n and m, where m is the number of factors. In this paper we examine the relationship between maximal fan design and latin-hypercube to give a partial solution for the conjecture.

  • In this paper, we propose a design method for the construction of LTE-based small unmanned aerial vehicle control system to quickly and reliably collect multiple small unmanned aerial vehicle position information simultaneously flying all over the country. In particular, the main requirements are the network (N/W), hardware (H/ W), software(SW), Database(DB), development architecture, and business needs. To satisfy these requirements, N/W, H/W, SW, DB design, and architectural design plan were suggested regarding the design requirements of a small UAV system. To effectively control the small unmanned multi-party system in the system design, the architecture is divided into the front-end service area and the back-end service area according to the function and role of the unit system. In the front-end service area that grasps and controls the position and state of small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), we have studied the design part that can be expanded to N through TCP/IP network by applying Client PC method.

  • In recent days, there are many researches of wireless LAN services as the communication environment of wireless LAN are so improved that a lot of services are available in wireless environments. The frequency of the wireless LAN is a general resource that can be used to everyone without any permission. Many technologies using this ISM (Industry Science Medical) frequency band are developed fast and widely. But, as many devices use the same frequency band at th same time, the service quality is degraded and the speed of the service rate id degraded by the result of the interference. For overcome this problem, we must provide the new technology of the mobile devices and a new cell design scheme for obtaining maximum throughput that considering the wireless environments effectively. In this paper, we explain the main technology at the IEEE 802.11n environments and proposes the optimal cell design and reference model for gaining maximum performance to many mobile devices at the same time by investigating real environment testing results.

  • This study investigates the breast cathexis and brassiere design preferences of Chinese citizens living in Hong Kong in order to provide marketing intelligence for bra manufacturers whose target customers are from this group of potential customers. A questionnaire composed of questions concerning breast shape evaluations, brassiere design preferences, and brassiere purchase and wear practices was administered to 165 Hong Kong Chinese female undergraduates(N=165). For an analysis of our data, we used the SPSS program(version 14.0). The results indicate that a majority of Hong Kong Chinese female undergraduates perceive their breasts as 'slightly smaller than normal' (n=59, 35.8%) or 'normal'(n=78, 47.3%) in volume, and 'conical'(n=77, 46.7%) or 'flat'(n=46, 27.9%). The results also suggest that Hong Kong Chinese women possess positive breast cathexis, with only a third of the respondents reporting dissatisfaction with their breasts. Women with dome-shaped breasts expressed the most positive breast cathexis, followed by those with cone-shaped breasts. The results also show that Hong Kong Chinese typically purchase 2 brassieres per year, which is a lower purchasing rate than their counterparts in Korea(Cha & Sohn, 2010) and Taiwan(ICT Life Style Research Center, 2004). The findings also demonstrate that the preferred brassiere color is black(57%), unlike in Korea, where women prefer skin-colored brassieres.

  • An active clamp flyback (ACF) converter applies a clamp circuit and circulates the energy of leakage inductance to the input side, thereby achieving a zero-voltage switching (ZVS) operation and greatly reducing switching losses. The switching losses are further reduced by applying a gallium nitride field effect transistor (GaN-FET) with excellent switching characteristics, and ZVS operation can be accomplished under light load with boundary conduction mode (BCM) operation. Optimal design is performed on the basis of loss analysis by selecting magnetization inductance based on BCM operation and a clamp capacitor for loss reduction. Therefore, the size of the reactive element can be reduced through high-frequency operation, and a high-efficiency and high-power-density converter can be achieved. This study proposes an optimal design for a high-efficiency and high-power-density BCM ACF converter based on GaN-FETs and verifies it through experimental results of a 65 W-rated prototype.

  • The purpose of this study is to assess the criteria on a floor hinge and door closer for the optimum design of the access door of a smoke control room. The door opening force due to differential pressure is 60.75 N, 40.5 N, 32.91 N and 12.66 N when the differential pressure is 60 Pa, 40 Pa, 32.5 Pa and 12.5 Pa, respectively. The door opening force of the floor hinge and door closer to which the criteria of KS F 2806 are applied is 27.5 N, 40 N, 75 N, 100 N and 125 N for the Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 class floor hinges and door closers, respectively. This study compared the differential pressure and opening force limits of floor hinges and door closers with the values specified in NFSC 501A and found that they exceeded the criteria specified in NFSC 501A. Therefore, it is necessary to reflect the differential pressure and smoke control wind speeds as well as the opening forces specified in NFSC 501A on the design of floor hinges and door closers. The installation conditions of floor hinges and door closers of access doors differ depending on the type and name of a smoke control damper. This study found that Nos. 1, 2 and 3 floor hinges and door closers could be installed for access doors with low differential pressure and that Nos. 1 and 2 floor hinges and door closers could be installed for access doors with normal differential pressure.

  • Fatigue design rules for welds in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessels Code are based on the use of Fatigue Strength Reduction Factors(FSRF) against a code specified fatigue design curve generated from smooth base metal specimens without the presence of welds. Similarly, stress intensification factors that are used in the ASME B3l.1 Piping Code are based on component S-N curves with a reference fatigue strength based on straight pipe girth welds. But the determination of either the FSRF or stress intensification factor requires extensive fatigue testing to take into account the stress concentration effects associated with various types of component geometry, weld configuration and loading conditions. As the fatigue behavior of welded joints is being better understood, it has been generally accepted that the difference in fatigue lives from one type of weld to another is dominated by the difference in stress concentration. However, general finite element procedures are currently not available for effective determination of such stress concentration effects. In this paper, a mesh-insensitive structural stress method is used to re-evaluate the S-N test data, and then more effective method is proposed for pressure vessel and piping fatigue design.

  • Recently, a new issue in designing spot welded structures such as automobile and train car bodies is to predict an economical fatigue design criterion. One of the most typical and traditional methods is to use a ΔP-N$\sub$f/ curve. However, since the fatigue data on the ΔP-N$\sub$f/ curve vary according to the welding conditions, materials, geometry of joint and fatigue loading conditions, it is necessary to perform the additional fatigue tests for determining a new fatigue design criterion of spot-welded lap joint having specific dimension and geometry. In this study, the stress distributions around spot welds of various spot welded lap joints such as in-plane bending type (IB type), tension shea. type (TS type) and cross tension type (CT type) were numerically analyzed. Using these results, the ΔP-N$\sub$f/ curves Previously obtained from the fatigue tests for each type were rearranged into the Δ$\sigma$-N$\sub$f/ relations with the maximum stresses at the nugget edge of the spot weld.
