  • In halobacterial membrane, pharaonis phoborhodopsin (or pharaonis sensory rhdopsin II, psRII) forms a complex with its transducer pHtrII. Flash-photolyis of D75N mutant did not yield M-intermediate but an O-like intermediate is observed. We examined the interaction between D75N of ppR and t-Htr (truncated pHtrII). These formed a complex in the presence of n-dodecyl-$\beta$-D-maltoside, and the association accelerated the decay of the 0 of D75N from 15 to 56 s$\^$-1/. From the decay time constants under varying ratios of D75N and t-Htr, n, the molar ratio of D75N/t-Htr in the complex, and K$\_$D/, the dissociation constant, were estimated. The value of n was unity and K$\_$D/ was estimated to 146 nM. This K$\_$D/ value can be considered as the association between the photo-intermediate and t-Htr, which is deduced by the method of estimation. Previously we (Photochem. Photobiol. 74, 489-494 (2001)) reported K$\_$D/ of 15 $\mu$M for the interaction between the wild-type and t-Htr by means of the change of M-decay rates. Therefore, this value should be the K$\_$D/ value for the interaction between M of the wild-type and t-Htr.

  • Silver nanoparticles were attached by chemical reduction after synthesizing a porous PVK-CTA complex. The PVK-CTA complex was synthesized by polymerizing N-vinylcarbazole in a CTA-chloroform solution using iron(III) chloride as an oxidizing agent and a honeycomb-pattern with uniformly formed macropores was formed by applying steam to the complex surface soaked with a volatile solvent under humid conditions. Using TTF as a reducing agent and PVP as a dispersant, silver nanoparticles were attached on the Honeycomb-pattern complex surface through chemical reduction. The formation of the complex was confirmed by FT-IR and UV-Vis spectrometry, and the degree of thermal decomposition of the complexes was analyzed after N-vinylcarbazole was polymerized by varying its concentration. The uniformity of the pores on the composite surface and the dispersibility of the attached silver nanoparticles were investigated by SEM. The dispersibility of the silver nanoparticles was also analyzed by varying the concentrations of reducing agent and dispersant and precursor.

  • We study totally real and complex subsets of a right quarternionic vector space of dimension n + 1 with a Hermitian form of signature (n, 1) and extend these notions to right quaternionic projective space. Then we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a subset of a right quaternionic projective space to be totally real or complex in terms of the quaternionic Hermitian triple product. As an application, we show that the limit set of a non-elementary quaternionic Kleinian group 𝚪 is totally real (resp. commutative) with respect to the quaternionic Hermitian triple product if and only if 𝚪 leaves a real (resp. complex) hyperbolic subspace invariant.

  • Halopyrroles, N-substituted 2-halopyrroles were prepared by halogenation of N-substituted pyrroles with NBS, NCS, or surfuryl chloride. N-Substituted 3-halopyrroles were synthesized by acid-catalyzed thermal and photochemical isomerization reactions of N-substituted 2-halopyrroles. Both the thermal and photochemical reactions were acid-catalyzed. For the acid-catalyzed isomerization, a mechanism of [1,3] bromine shift followed by deprotonation is operated. For the acid-catalyzed photoisomerization, an excited triplet state of 2-protonated N-benzyl-2-halopyrrole produces an intermediate N-substituted pyrrole complex with halonium ion which is equilibrated with N-substituted pyrrole plus halonium ion, and then the halonium ion newly adds to 3-position of N-substituted pyrrole followed by deprotonation to afford N-benzyl-3-halopyrrole.

  • In this paper we consider the quadratic matrix equation which can be defined by $$Q(X)=AX^2+BX+C=0$$, where X is a $n{\times}n$ unknown complex matrix, and A, B and C are $n{\times}n$ given matrices with complex elements. We first introduce a couple of condition numbers of the equation Q(X) and present normwise condition numbers. Finally, we compare the results and some numerical experiments are given.

  • Seasonal variations of major contaminants in groundwater around livestock burial areas in Gyeonggi province, Korea, were examined. Seven typical contamination indicators ($NO_3$-N, $NH_3$-N, chloride, pH, DO, ORP, and EC) were monitored in groundwater samples collected from 84 wells located within 60 m of livestock burial sites for the leachate plume emanating from the livestock burial sites. The monitoring results of pH, DO, ORP, and EC revealed minimal seasonal variations, providing no evidence for leachate plumes. The $NO_3$-N concentrations were below 30 mg/L and exhibited minimal seasonal fluctuations, even in the wells located close to (< 20 m) the burial sites; the $NH_3$-N and chloride concentrations also showed similar results. The contamination indicators examined in this study indicate that the observed groundwater contamination is primarily from preexisting pervasive contamination due to agricultural activities and livestock farming, not leachates derived from nearby livestock burial sites.

  • In this study, the wear resistance of the complex powder diffusion treated KS STD 61 has been investigatived. KS STD 61 tool steel was pretreated in quenching and tempering processes to obtain the tempered martensitic microstructure. The samples were packed with complex powder in steel pot($\Phi$90x60mm) and heated in a box furnace. the complex powder diffusion treatment are carried out at $540^{\circ}C$, $520^{\circ}C$, $500^{\circ}C$ for 40min, 1.5hr and 2.5hr. The microstructure, microhardness, wear resistance, and coating layer thickness of the complex powder diffusion treated samples were investigation. The weight loss of as heat treated sample was 0.4mg and that of the complex powder treated at $540^{\circ}C$ for 2.5hr was 0.17mg. These result means that the wear resistance of tool steels can be easily improved by the powder diffusion process at conventional tempering treatment temperature.

  • The complexation of hydrazide schiff base ligands such as N,N'-oxalylbis(salicylaldehyde hydrazone), N,N'-malonylbis(salicylaldehyde hydrazone), and N,N'-succinylbis(salicylaldehyde hydrazone) with Cd(II) ion was studied by polarographic method in DMSO solution. The order of stability constants was OBSH < MBSH < SBSH, and these ligands formed stable complexes with Cd(II) ion. The stability constants of complexation were measured at various temperatures. As the results, ${\Delta}$H and ${\Delta}$S of the complexation were distributed on the complex stabilities.
