By using AIP(Arc Ion Plating) of a physical vapor deposition for the first time in Korea a ceramic tool whose surface is coated single layeredly with TiN is developed. In addition cutting resistance appearing in the process of finishing cut of hardened carbon tool steel STC3 is studied. The principal and radial components of cutting resistance in those cutting conditions appear to be the same or similar and the feed component is relatively small. The feed component is found to be in proportion to cutting width and the radial component in proportion to cutting thickness. Owing to coating the cutting resistance of a TiN coated ceramic tool increas-es compared with that of a general ceramic tool.

In this study, TiN-coated cBN (cubic-structure boron nitride) powders were successfully synthesized by a sol-gel method using titanium (IV) isopropoxide (TTIP) and by controlling the heat treatment conditions. After the sol-gel process, amorphous nano-sized TiO_x was uniformly coated on the surface of cBN powder particles. The obtained TiO_x-coated cBN powders were heated at 1,000~1,300℃ for 1 or 6 h in a flow of 95%N₂-5%H₂ mixed gas. With increasing temperature, the chemical composition of the TiO_x coating layer changed in the order of TiO₂→Ti₆O₁₁→Ti₄O₇→TiN due to reduction of the Ti ions. The TiN coating layer was observable in the samples heated at 1,200℃ and appeared as the main phase in the sample heated at 1,300℃. The resulting thickness of the TiN coating layer of the sample heated at 1,300℃ was approximately 45~50 nm.

We have successfully fabricated high aspect-ratio GaN-based nanowires on Si substrates using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) system for high-efficiency hydrogen generation of photoelectrochemical water splitting. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) demonstrated that p-GaN:Mg and p-InGaN nanowires were grown vertically on the substrate with high density. Furthermore, it was also confirmed that the emission wavelength of p-InGaN nanowire can be adjusted from 552 nm to 590 nm. Such high-aspect ratio p-InGaN nanowire structure will be a solid foundation for the realization of ultrahigh-efficiency photoelectrochemical water splitting through sunlight.

We examined problems of the principal component analysis(PCA), which is able to analyze at the low dimensionality as a methodologv to assess hydrologic time series, and introduced the theory and characteristics of independent component analysis(ICA) that can supplement problems of principal component analysis. We also applied the global sea surface temperature(SST) of the Nino region and assessed the correlation between El $\tilde{n}ino$-Southern Oscillation(ENSO) and SST. The results of examining separation-ability of principal components using mixed signals indicate that the independent component analysis is statistically superior compared to that of the principal component analysis. Finally, we assessed correlation between ENSO and global anomaly SST. The independent component analysis was applied to the $5^{\circ}{\times}5^{\circ}$(latitude and longitude) global anomaly SST in the Nino+3.4 region that is the El $\tilde{n}ino$ observation section. We assessed the correlation with the ENSO years. These results of the analysis show that only one independent component($86\%$) was able to represent the entire behavior and was consistent with the main ENSO years. Finally, we carried out independent component analysis for summer seasonal rainfalls at nine stations and could extract ICs to reflect geographical characteristics. The increasing trend has been shown at IC-1 and IC-2 since 1970s.

In this paper, the degree-n bifurcation set as well as the Julia sets is defined by extending the concept of the Mandelbrot set to the complex polynomial $z^{n}{\;}+{\;}c(c{\;}\in{\;}C,{\;}n{\;}\geq{\;}2)$. Some properties of the degree-n bifurcation set and the Julia sets have been theoretically investigated including the symmetry, periodicity, boundedness, connectedness and the bifurcation points as well as the governing equation for the component centers. An efficient algorithm constructing both the degree-n bifurcation set and the Julia sets is proposed using theoretical results. The mouse-operated software calico "MANJUL" has been developed for the effective construction of the degree-n bifurcation set and the Julia sets in graphic environments with C++ programming language under the windows operating system. Simple mouse operations can construct and magnify the degree-n bifurcation set as well as the Julia sets. They not only compute the component period, bifurcation points and component centers but also save the images of the degree-n bifurcation set and the Julia sets to visually confirm various properties and the geometrical structure of the sets. A demonstration has verified the useful versatility of MANJUL.

This research was conducted at the constructed wetland in Goheung reclaimed land, and water quality components were measured at the 12 points in 15 March 2008 and 10 January 2009, respectively. Temperature, pH, DO, EC and salinity components were measured at the field, and TOC, Cl-, COD, TSS, T-P and TN components were analyzed laboratory. Concentrations of field measured components at inflow points were higher than in constructed wetland. TOC concentration ratio of inflow water to constructed wetland water was higher in January, and Cl concentration ratio of it was higher in March. And, COD concentration ratio of it were 1.37 for March and 1.49 for January, respectively. T-P and T-N concentration ratios of it at inflow points were higher 3 times than in constructed wetland. Constructed wetland attenuated concentration of contaminated components inflow to it. Removal efficiencies of Cl-, T-P and T-N components in inflow water were high at the constructed wetland. removal efficiencies of Cl component were 83% for 1st monitoring and 76% for 2nd monitoring, this removal efficiency be caused by dilution effect of constructed wetland. removal efficiencies of T-P component were 67% for 1st monitoring and 69% for 2nd monitoring, and they of T-N component were 100% for 1st monitoring and 95% for 2nd monitoring. Abnormal removal efficiency of T-N component is caused that nitrogen in inflow water was a little. Removal efficiency of T-P component was higher in January, and T-N component was higher in March. This is caused by environmental difference between growing season and winter.

In monocular vision, bead and eye optokinetic nystagmus (OKN) display directionnal asymmetry, in lower vertebrates such as chickens, T-N stimulation being more efficient in evoking this visuomotor reflex than N-T stimulation. The N-T component of monocular OKN is significantly weaker in chickens. Coil recordings and observation showed that in adult chickens, prolonged monocular visual deprivation by unilateral eyelid suture provoked significant and progressive increase of the N-T component in chickens. This plasticity phenomenon involved the eye and head OKN in chickens. The administration of THIP, a GABA agonist, abolished reversibly the increase of the N-T component in chickens. This fact suggests that the GABAergic system could be involved in determining this plasticity phenomenon observed in adult lower vertebrates.

Circular consecutive-k-out-of-n:F system when the failure of component is dependent is studied. We assume that the failure of a component in the system increase the failure rate of the survivor which is working just before the failed component. In this case, a mean time to failure (MTTF), a average failure number of the system, and the expected cost per unit time are obtained. Then the minimum number of consecutive failed components to cause system failure to minimize the expected cost per unit time is determined as searching paths to system failure. And various numerical examples are studied.
