A Development of Music Aptitude Test for Children (아동들을 위한 음악 적성검사 도구 개발)

  • Even if Internet has been used very much, there is no method of music aptitude test for children. We develop the music aptitude test in the internet to make music aptitude test easily. We test children for music aptitude early. We provide children the learning and instruction environment. This research makes children improve the ability of music. We develop the music aptitude test system for children in the WWW for children to use it. This system is expected to be a great help for children to test music aptitude easily. This system establish a well-understood and maintenance through this system for replacing the data files of their children in a effective way.

The Effects of the Orff Approach to Music Education Programs on Young Children's Musical Expressiveness (Orff 접근법에 의한 음악활동이 유아의 음악표현 능력에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the effects of the Orff Approach to music education programs on singing ability, the ability to play musical instruments, physical expression ability, musical improvisation ability as well as overall musical expressiveness in 5 year old children. The test subjects for this study consisted of fifty-eight children. They were arbitrarily assigned to the experimental group of 31 children and the control group of 27 children. The experimental group was engaged using the Orff music education program for a total of 16 sessions, while the control group conducted music activities according to the annual music education plan of M kindergarten. The main results of this study were as follows : The Orff Approach to music education program was effective in improving abilities in the sub-factors of the four kinds of musical expression ability (singing, playing musical instruments, physical expression and musical improvisation) as well as overall musical expressive abilities. These results indicate that the Orff Approach to music education programs can create positive effects in the developing musical expressiveness of young children.

The Effects of Korean Traditional Music Education on the Development of Music Attitude and Rhythmic Sense (유아전통음악교육이 유아의 음악적 태도 변화와 리듬감 발달에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Korean traditional music education for young children on the development of musical attitude and rhythmic sense of young children. The subjects were 42 four or five-year-old children enrolled in two classes of a public kindergarten. Half were in the experimental and half were in the control group. Instruments were "Music Interest Test for Young Children" (Kim, 2000), "Musical Attitude Rating Scale for Young Children" (Ahn & Han, 1999) and "Primary Measures of Music Audiation" (Gordon, 1986). The procedure included pre-test, treatments and post-test paradigm. Experimental group had Korean traditional music activities three times per week, including listening, appreciation, singing, playing traditional instruments and creative movement. The control group was merely provided with materials related to the Korean traditional music. Data was analyzed by t-test. Results indicated significant differences in music attitude and rhythmic sense between the experimental group and the control group.

A Theoretical Consideration for Integrated Approach of Young Children's Music Education (유아음악교육의 통합적 접근을 위한 이론적 고찰)

  • This study investigated the relationship between musical understanding and expression, the purpose of music education. It also intended to present the theoretical basis of integrated early childhood music education by examining into the necessity of it as a method to help young children with musical understanding and expression. The results of the study showed that either of the understanding and expression of music should be necessary and there is a mutual promotional relationship between them. It was found out that real musical understanding can be formed not by mechanical skill, but when the relationship between notes is understood with various experiences. Therefore an integrated early childhood music education became necessary as a principle of educational method to help young children with musical understanding and musical expression. Concretely it was found out to be necessary in terms of the characteristics, interest and concern of young children, the use and development of multi intelligence and the translation of the same knowledge into the same level.

  • Although importance of music education for the mentally retarded children is realized, it is hard to improve study effects for those children with the existing music education methods due to cognitive disorders of the children. In the paper, we propose a system to improve music cognition ability of the mentally retarded children. The system is designed based on the existing MMCP theory. Our system has the following characteristics. First, the system can improve cognitive, physical, social and emotional development as well as development of music cognition ability. Second, the individualized music education is possible for the children. Third, more active and interactive education is possible.

The Effects of a Music Therapy Program for Autistic Children in Child Day Care Centers (자폐장애 아동을 대상으로 한 음악치료 중재 효과 연구)

  • Purpose: This study was aimed at evaluating the effects of Music Therapy for the autistic children. Method: The subjects of this study consisted of 3 autistic children who were trained in an Attachment Promotion Therapy Program for 6 months. The Children were all males and 4years 9months, 3years 1 month, and 3years 8month each, and diagnosed with Autism by Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists. Data was collected by using video-taping methods(ADOS, Fagot's Interactive Behavior Code), an interview and observational methods(SMS). Music Therapy intervention was done once a week for 6 months. Data was gathered by quantitative and qualitative analysis. Result: This study showed that the Autism Diagnostic Observation Scale and Social Maturity Quotient(SQ) much improved after the Music Therapy After the Music Therapy, the Interactive Behavior Code : Gaze, Gesture for the communication, Verbal language, Laughing/Smile, and Normal play behaviors increased more than before the intervention. As the results show, the child's behavior became more positively responsive, playful, and attentive to others. Conclusion: This study suggests that Music Therapy might be an effective intervention for autistic disorder children in order to decrease autistic symptoms and increase joint attention behavior.

A Study on Early Childhood Creativity and the Development of a Personality Education Program for Preschoolers Through Music Activities (음악 활동을 통한 유아 창의·인성교육 프로그램의 개발 및 효과)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to develop an education program using music activities for promoting young children's creativity and personality and to analyze the impact of this program on the creativity and personality of young children in child care classrooms. Methods: The study consisted of how the creativity and personality education program using music activities for young children was developed and the impact of the program on 5-year-old children's creativity and personality. The experimental treatment was conducted on a total of 16 occasions for eight weeks. The data were collected through the preschooler Creativity test(K·CCTYC) and The Empathy Index for Children and Adolescents (IECA) and Skill Situation Measures were used to analyze the effects of experimental treatment with paired t-test. Results: First, the program had positive effects on fluency, flexibility, originality and imagination of creativity. Second, the program had positive effects on empathy ability and prosociality. Conclusion/Implications: The effectiveness of the creativity and personality education programs using music activities for promoting young children's creativity and personality and the ways to promote young children's creativity and personality in early childhood educations institutes were discussed.

Effects of Musical Play Activities Based on Traditional Children's Songs upon Young Children's Musical Ability and Interest in Korean Music and Their Playfulness (전래동요에 기초한 음악놀이활동이 유아의 국악능력과 국악흥미도 놀이성에 미치는 영향)

  • Objective: This research was designed to investigate how young children's musical ability and interest in Korean music and their playfulness were affected by musical play activities based on traditional children's songs. Methods: In this study, 28 five-year-old children from W childcare center in W city were divided into an experimental and a comparison group. The experimental group then took part in musical play activities based on traditional children's songs while the comparison group, even though they sang the same songs, took part in musical activities based on themes in the 'Nuri curriculum'. The average and standard deviations of the children's musical ability and interest in Korean music and their playfulness were calculated from the collected data, and ANCOVA was computed using the pre-test scores of each subject as the covariate. Results: The results showed that taking part in musical play activities based on traditional children's songs positively affected young children's musical ability and interest in Korean music and their playfulness. Conclusion/Implications: Therefore, it is suggested that such activities could be useful components for effective Korean music programs in the field of early childhood education.

A Study on Teacher's Perception of Early Childhood Music Education (음악 전담교사에 의해 실시되는 영유아 음악교육의 실태 및 교사의 인식에 관한 연구 -어린이집을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the reality of early childhood education and recognition of its teachers. The subjects of this study were 173 day care center teachers. They were surveyed by questionnaire and the results were tabulated using descriptive statistics. According to the result, 1) the majority answered that test cohort is two years children, number of subject is between 10 and 20 children, required time is 20-30 minutes, frequency is once a week, and teaching duration is more than a year. 2) It was reported that the education plan is usually submitted to day care center teachers and if it is not well linked, there are not many things that can be revised after consultation with teacher, even though it is well delivered. 3) Although they answered that the preparation of teaching materials for music activities were well used, the efficiency of the material towards children was reported as just normal. 4) There was a replacement of the music teacher during the specialized music education program.

Development and Validation of the Korean Traditional Music Ability Test for Young Children (유아국악능력 검사도구 개발 및 양호도 검증)

  • The purpose of this study was the development and validation of a test of young children's understanding and their ability to represent the elements of traditional Korean music. The test was reviewed by professional groups and modified by preliminary testing. In its final form, the Korean Traditional Music Ability Test(KTMAT) for 4- to 6-year-old children consists of 43 items covering understanding and ability to represent Changdan(Changdanhyung, Bak, Bbareugi and Semyeorim) and Garak(Eumjeong and Sikimshae). Item analysis, reliability and validity tests were statistically significant. The KTMAT is an evaluation tool that can be used as basic material for developing children's musical ability, and it can provide valuable information showing direction for children's Korean traditional music education.
