Quasars at cosmological distances can be gravitationally lensed by galaxies into two or more images. The probability of this lensing and the angular separation between the images depend on the geometry and the expansion history of the universe as well as the lensing galaxies. The time delay between lensed images is also a direct indicator of the size of the universe. I review these cosmological applications of multiple-image gravitationally lensed quasars to determine or constrain the cosmological parameters.

A switching control using multiple gains in the fuzzy rule is newly proposed for an abruptly changing hydraulic servo system. The proposed scheme employs fuzzy PID control, where modified input parameters are used, and LVQNN(Learning Vector Quantization Neural Network) as a switching controller (supervisor). Simulation and experimental studies have been carried out to validate and illustrate the proposed controller.

The relation between light sources and screen cells is considered part of the theoretical model of an autostereoscopic 3D display. The geometry of the image and observer regions is presented, including the cases of single and multiple regions. The characteristic function is introduced. Formulas for the geometric parameters are obtained, including areas and angles. Special attention is drawn to the screen location. The method of transforming the formulas between regions is stated. For multiple regions, geometric dissimilarity was found. This allows the model to be applied in finding the geometric characteristics of multiview and integral-imaging 3D displays.

Dynamic stability of an oscillating cantilever plate is investigated in this paper. The equations of motion include harmonically oscillating parameters which originate from the motion-induced stiffness variation. Using the multiple scale perturbation method is employed to obtain a stability diagram. The tability diagram shows that relatively large unstable regions exist when the frequency of oscillation is near twice the frequencies of the 1st torsion natural mode and the 1st chordwide bending mode.

This paper presents the methodology for obtaining point and interval estimating of the parameters of a new two-parameter distribution with multiple-censored and singly censored data (Type-I censoring or Type-II censoring) as well as complete data, using the maximum likelihood method. The basis is the likelihood expression for multiple-censored data. Furthermore, this model can be extended to a three-parameter distribution that is added a scale parameter. Then, the parameter estimation can be obtained by the graphical estimation on probability plot.

The analysis procedure for open-circuited interdigital multiple coupled microstrip-line structures for applications as wideband DC blocks are presented. The exact frequency responses for the transmission coefficient computed by utilizing the quasi-TEM parameters of coupled microstrip lines are shown.

In this paper, we presents a vector control method for the parallel-connected motor drive system. The new estimation scheme of rotor flux position is presented to reduce sensitivity due to load difference between the motors. To confirm the validity of the proposed control method. we compare a simulation result of the proposed control method with that of the conventional indirect vector control method. The simulation results show that the proposed control method is more effective for change in load torque and motor parameters.

In sampling survey, prior-information about population has been generally ignored to estimate parameters. But if there is some believable prior-information about population, it is very useful to get more efficiency estimators by using the prior-information. This paper shows how to estimate the parameter, to evaluate the variance of the estimator, and to un-biasness of the estimator by using multiple stratification with prior-information about survey population. The proposed method is illustrated with a set of hypothetical data. The results show that the proposed estimator is very efficiency and strongly recommendable.

This study shows that image deblurring problems can be transformed into the multi-parameter Tikhonov type with multiple right hand sides. Also, this paper proposes the extension of the global generalized cross validation to obtain an appropriate choice of the regularization parameters for this problem. The experimental results of using the preconditioned Gl-CGLS algorithm were analyzed.

In this study, we consider the simultaneous estimation of the parameters of the distribution of p independent Poisson random variables using the weighted loss function. The relation between the estimation under the weighted loss function and the case when more than one observation is taken from some population is studied. We derive an estimator which dominates Tsui and Press's estimator when certain conditions hold. We also derive an estimator which dominates the maximum likelihood estimator(MLE) under the various loss function. The risk performances of proposed estimators are compared to that of MLE by computer simulation.
