  • The purpose of present study is to explore the mechanical behavior of anchorage zones in prestressed concrete members with single and closely-spaced multiple tendon anchorages. The cracking loads and local stress distributions at these anchorage zones are studied. To this end, a series of experiments have been conducted. From this study, it is found that the failure of anchorage zones of the closely-spaced multiple tendon members is initiated by cracking along the tendon path and that the tensile stresses arising in the vicinity of anchorage zone of the first tendon are reduced due to additional compression of the second tendon. This results in the increase of cracking capacity of the member. The effects of multiple tendons are presented in the form of strain distribution and cracking load comparisons.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the relative growth of annual ring width of red pine(Pinus densiflora), black pine(Pinus thunbergii) and pitch pine(Pinus rigida) by means of multiple regression method according to Graybill hypothesis. The obtained results are as follows. 1. The changes of rainfall have affected to tree growth during the periods of 1975 through 1978. 2. Among these pine trees, red pine was mostly influenced by environmental factors. 3. The growth of annual ring width was sensitively responded to the changes of rainfall and air temperature. 4. Among the heavy metals analyzed, the concentrations(ppm) of Lead(Pb) and Copper(Cu) were negatively effected on the growth of annual ring width of pine trees. 5. The analytical technique of annual ring width may be useful for estimation of the pollution in forest areas near industrial complexes.

  • Three different dutasteride extraction methods were compared and a method based on liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) using methyl tert-butyl ether and methylene chloride was proved to be more effective than others for the extraction of dutasteride and finasteride, the internal standard (IS), from rat plasma. Additionally, a method composed of the LLE extraction, liquid chromatography, and multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) to target dutasteride and IS was validated by assessing specificity, linearity ($r^2$ = 0.9993, 5 - 400 ng/mL), sensitivity (the limit of detection: 4.03 ng/mL; the limit of quantitation: 12.10 ng/mL), accuracy (intra-day: 89.4 - 105.9%; inter-day: 84.9 - 100.9%), precision (intra-day: 0.8 - 6.9%; inter-day: 2.9 - 15.9%), and recovery (84.7 - 107.8%). Since the validated method was successfully applied to a pharmacokinetic study of dutasteride, it can be useful for the pharmacokinetic evaluation of newly developed dutasteride formulations.

  • Multiple comparisons are required to confirm whether or not something is significant if the null hypothesis to test whether the difference between more than three treatments is rejected in a one-way layout. There are both parametric multiple comparison method Tukey (1953) and Nonparametric multiple comparison method based on Kruskal-Wallis (1952).This procedure is applied to a mixed sample of all data and then an average ranking is used for each of three or more treatments. In this paper, a new nonparametric multiple comparison procedure based on joint placements for a one-way layout as extension of the joint placements described in Chung and Kim (2007) was proposed. Monte Carlo simulation is also adapted to compare the family wise error rate (FWE) and the power of the proposed method with previous methods.

  • Most hydro]ogic phenomena are the complex and organic products of multiple causations like climatic and hydro-geological factors. A certain significant correlation on the run-off in river basin would be expected and foreseen in advance, and the effect of each these causual and associated factors (independant variables; present-month rainfall, previous-month run-off, evapotranspiration and relative humidity etc.) upon present-month run-off(dependent variable) may be determined by multiple regression analysis. Functions between independant and dependant variables should be treated repeatedly until satisfactory and optimal combination of independant variables can be obtained. Reliability of the estimated function should be tested according to the result of statistical criterion such as analysis of variance, coefficient of determination and significance-test of regression coefficients before first estimated multiple regression model in historical sequence is determined. But some error between observed and estimated run-off is still there. The error arises because the model used is an inadequate description of the system and because the data constituting the record represent only a sample from a population of monthly discharge observation, so that estimates of model parameter will be subject to sampling errors. Since this error which is a deviation from multiple regression plane cannot be explained by first estimated multiple regression equation, it can be considered as a random error governed by law of chance in nature. This unexplained variance by multiple regression equation can be solved by stochastic approach, that is, random error can be stochastically simulated by multiplying random normal variate to standard error of estimate. Finally hybrid model on estimation of monthly run-off in nonhistorical sequence can be determined by combining the determistic component of multiple regression equation and the stochastic component of random errors. Monthly run-off in Naju station in Yong-San river basin is estimated by multiple regression model and hybrid model. And some comparisons between observed and estimated run-off and between multiple regression model and already-existing estimation methods such as Gajiyama formula, tank model and Thomas-Fiering model are done. The results are as follows. (1) The optimal function to estimate monthly run-off in historical sequence is multiple linear regression equation in overall-month unit, that is; Qn=0.788Pn+0.130Qn-1-0.273En-0.1 About 85% of total variance of monthly runoff can be explained by multiple linear regression equation and its coefficient of determination (R2) is 0.843. This means we can estimate monthly runoff in historical sequence highly significantly with short data of observation by above mentioned equation. (2) The optimal function to estimate monthly runoff in nonhistorical sequence is hybrid model combined with multiple linear regression equation in overall-month unit and stochastic component, that is; Qn=0. 788Pn+0. l30Qn-1-0. 273En-0. 10+Sy.t The rest 15% of unexplained variance of monthly runoff can be explained by addition of stochastic process and a bit more reliable results of statistical characteristics of monthly runoff in non-historical sequence are derived. This estimated monthly runoff in non-historical sequence shows up the extraordinary value (maximum, minimum value) which is not appeared in the observed runoff as a random component. (3) "Frequency best fit coefficient" (R2f) of multiple linear regression equation is 0.847 which is the same value as Gaijyama's one. This implies that multiple linear regression equation and Gajiyama formula are theoretically rather reasonable functions.

  • This study presents modeling technologies applicable to an unbonded post-tension system using a finite element software package. In this study, both direct modeling method and multiple spring method were used. The direct modeling method adopts tube-to-tube contact elements to represent the physical feature of a post-tension system. The multiple spring method uses virtual tendons attached to the real tendons using a number of rigid axial springs that freely rotate at the ends. Both modeling technologies provide accurate predictions. However, only the multiple spring method provides numerically stable and reliable responses with a consideration of concrete tension stiffening effects. Therefore, the multiple spring method turned out to be a generally applicable modeling technology for the unbonded post-tension system. Comparisons were made for the analytical and experimental results for the verification of the selected method, and parameter studies were carried out to confirm the appropriateness of the modeling assumptions and parameters adopted in the analysis.

  • The performance of common spreading code scheme employing multiple-capture receiver is compared to that of transmitter-oriented (T/O) code division multiple access (CDMA) scheme in view of the possibility of collision-free transmissions and the effect of secondary multiple-access interference. For performance comparisons, secondary multiple-access interference is characterized for the common code scheme and the T/O CDMA scheme that assures perfectly collision-free transmissions. Throughput performance is then evaluated for these two schemes with direct-sequence spread-spectrum/differential-phase-shift-keying (DS-SS/DPSK) data modulation and forward-error-control coding (BCH codes) in the presence of an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). It is shown that when the number of radios is relatively large, the maximum normalized throughput is greater for the common code scheme than for the T/O CDMA scheme at a moderate signal-to-noise ration(SNR).

  • Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology provides high data rate and enhanced quality of service for wireless communications. Since the benefits from MIMO result in a heavy computational load in detectors, the design of low-complexity suboptimum receivers is currently an active area of research. Lattice-reduction-aided detection (LRAD) has been shown to be an effective low-complexity method with near-maximum-likelihood performance. In this paper, we advocate the use of systolic array architectures for MIMO receivers, and in particular we exhibit one of them based on LRAD. The "Lenstra-Lenstra-Lov$\acute{a}$sz (LLL) lattice reduction algorithm" and the ensuing linear detections or successive spatial-interference cancellations can be located in the same array, which is considerably hardware-efficient. Since the conventional form of the LLL algorithm is not immediately suitable for parallel processing, two modified LLL algorithms are considered here for the systolic array. LLL algorithm with full-size reduction-LLL is one of the versions more suitable for parallel processing. Another variant is the all-swap lattice-reduction (ASLR) algorithm for complex-valued lattices, which processes all lattice basis vectors simultaneously within one iteration. Our novel systolic array can operate both algorithms with different external logic controls. In order to simplify the systolic array design, we replace the Lov$\acute{a}$sz condition in the definition of LLL-reduced lattice with the looser Siegel condition. Simulation results show that for LR-aided linear detections, the bit-error-rate performance is still maintained with this relaxation. Comparisons between the two algorithms in terms of bit-error-rate performance, and average field-programmable gate array processing time in the systolic array are made, which shows that ASLR is a better choice for a systolic architecture, especially for systems with a large number of antennas.

  • The diffraction of waves by three bottom fixed vertical circular cylinders is investigated by using the boundary element method. This method has been successfully applied to the isolated vertical circular cylinder and now is used to study the interaction between waves and multiple vertical cylinders. In this paper, a numerical analysis by the boundary element method is developed by the linear potential theory. The numerical analysis by the boundary element method is based on Green's second theorem and introduced to an integral equation for the fluid velocity potential around the vertical circular cylinders. To verify this method, the results obtained in present study are compared with the results computed by the multiple scattering method. The results of the comparisons show strong agreement. Also in this paper, several numerical examples are given to illustrate the effects of various parameters on the wave exciting force such are the separation distance, the wave number and the incident wave angle. This numerical computation method might be used broadly for the design of various offshore structures to be constructed in the future.
