In this work, we develop a novel channel power allocation method for the real-time multimedia over the wireless network environment. Since each frame has different effect on the user perceivable QoS, improving packet loss does not necessarily coincide with perceivable improvements in QoS. A new channel power control scheme is suggested based on the quantified importance of each frame in terms of user perceivable QoS. Dynamic programming formulation is used to obtain optimal transmit power which minimizes power consumption and maximizes user perceivable QoS simultaneously. The experiment is performed by using publicly available video clips. The performance is evaluated using network simulator version 2 (NS 2) and decoding engine is embedded at the client node, and calculated PSNR over the every frame transmitted. Through the semantics aware power allocation (SAPA) scheme, significant improvement on the QoS has been verified, which is the result of unequal protection to more important packets. SAPA scheme reduced the loss of I frame by upto 27% and reduced power consumption by upto 19% without degradation on the user perceivable QoS.
For medical students and doctors, knowledge of the three-dimensional (3D) structure of brain is very important in diagnosis and treatment of brain diseases. Two-dimensional (2D) tools (ex: anatomy book) or traditional 3D tools (ex: plastic model) are not sufficient to understand the complex structures of the brain. However, it is not always guaranteed to dissect the brain of cadaver when it is necessary. To overcome this problem, the virtual dissection programs of the brain have been developed. However, most programs include only 2D images that do not permit free dissection and free rotation. Many programs are made of radiographs that are not as realistic as sectioned cadaver because radiographs do not reveal true color and have limited resolution. It is also necessary to make the virtual dissection programs of each race and ethnic group. We attempted to make a virtual dissection program using a 3D image of the brain from a Korean cadaver. The purpose of this study is to present an educational tool for those interested in the anatomy of the brain. The procedures to make this program were as follows. A brain extracted from a 58-years old male Korean cadaver was embedded with gelatin solution, and serially sectioned into 1.4 mm-thickness using a meat slicer. 130 sectioned specimens were inputted to the computer using a scanner ($420\times456$ resolution, true color), and the 2D images were aligned on the alignment program composed using IDL language. Outlines of the brain components (cerebrum, cerebellum, brain stem, lentiform nucleus, caudate nucleus, thalamus, optic nerve, fornix, cerebral artery, and ventricle) were manually drawn from the 2D images on the CorelDRAW program. Multimedia data, including text and voice comments, were inputted to help the user to learn about the brain components. 3D images of the brain were reconstructed through the volume-based rendering of the 2D images. Using the 3D image of the brain as the main feature, virtual dissection program was composed using IDL language. Various dissection functions, such as dissecting 3D image of the brain at free angle to show its plane, presenting multimedia data of brain components, and rotating 3D image of the whole brain or selected brain components at free angle were established. This virtual dissection program is expected to become more advanced, and to be used widely through Internet or CD-title as an educational tool for medical students and doctors.
This paper proposes a DNA watermarking method for the privacy protection and the prevention of illegal copy. The proposed method allocates codons to random circular angles by using random mapping table and selects triplet codons for embedding target with the help of the Lipschitz regularity value of local modulus maxima of codon circular angles. Then the watermark is embedded into circular angles of triplet codons without changing the codes of amino acids in a DNA. The length and location of target triplet codons depend on the random mapping table for 64 codons that includes start and stop codons. This table is used as the watermark key and can be applied on any codon sequence regardless of the length of sequence. If this table is unknown, it is very difficult to detect the length and location of them for extracting the watermark. We evaluated our method and DNA-crypt watermarking of Heider method on the condition of similar capacity. From evaluation results, we verified that our method has lower base changing rate than DNA-crypt and has lower bit error rate on point mutation and insertions/deletions than DNA-crypt. Furthermore, we verified that the entropy of random mapping table and the locaton of triplet codons is high, meaning that the watermark security has high level.
Recently, IoT technology has been applied to various cloud environments, requiring accurate verification of various information generated by IoT devices. However, due to the convergence of IoT technologies and 5G technologies, accurate analysis is required as IoT information processing is rapidly processed. This paper proposes a blockchain-based multi-IoT verification model for overlay cloud environments. The proposed model multi-processes IoT information by further classifying IoT information two layers (layer and layer) into bits' blockchain to minimize the bottleneck of overlay networks while ensuring the integrity of information sent and received from embedded IoT devices within local IoT groups. Furthermore, the proposed model allows the layer to contain the weight information, allowing IoT information to be easily processed by the server. In particular, transmission and reception information between IoT devices facilitates server access by distributing IoT information from bits into blockchain to minimize bottlenecks in overlay networks and then weighting IoT information.

This paper proposes a SOC platform which is eligible for education and application SOC design. The platform, fully synthesizable and reconfigurable, includes the OpenRISC embedded processor, some basic peripherals such as GPIO, UART, debug interlace, VGA controller and WISHBONE interconnect. The platform uses a set of development environment such as compiler, assembler, debugger and RTOS that is built for HW/SW system debugging and software development. Designed SOC, IPs and Testbenches are described in the Verilog HDL and verified using commercial logic simulator, GNU SW development tool kits and the FPGA. Finally, a multimedia SOC derived from the SOC platform is implemented to ASIC using the Magnachip cell library based on 0.18um 1-poly 6-metal technology.
The video data corrupted by the transmission error due to packet loss induce error propagation in decoded video data, and cause poor video quality. To remedy these corrupted video data, there have been introduced two types of error concealment techniques: spatial or temporal error concealment algorithm. Computational overhead by using spatial error concealment algorithm is a serious disadvantage in mobile video data streaming environment. In this paper, we propose hybrid type error concealment technique recovering video quality of mobile device using MPEG-4 video streaming on error-prone wireless network. Our algorithm is implemented in MPEG-4 decoder. The algorithm adopts Intel Wireless MMX technology to provide high performance of portable embedded multimedia mobile device. It is proven that the proposed algorithm shows expected performance for a mobile streaming system(PDA) on IP channels. Our approach showed better processing speed and better video quality comparing with traditional error concealment algorithm.

In these days, various wireless internet services are possible since the advanced wireless networks enable to transfer more data than before and smarter devices have developed to display the multimedia information more efficiently. Therefore, Korean MIPS such as SKT and LGT provide many kinds of advanced services such as wireless on-line shopping, mobile banking system and etc using 2.5 generation wireless network technology and smartcards. In a transportation system, a cellular phone can be used as a useful payment tool since most people always keep it and a mobile payment system has developed as infrastructure for wireless on-line services. In this paper, a mobile transportation payment system is introduced. A driver needs to pay a toll fee when he/she uses the highways. Recently, a high pass system has introduced, in which a vehicle can pass a toll gate without stopping to pay the fee to a counter. The payment is done automatically by an attached payment device. We have developed an advanced mobile system in which a smartcard embedded cellular phone is used as a payment device. The personnel and financial information is stored at a smartcard and the communication between the phone and OBU(On Board Unit) is done by Bluetooth.

Recent advances in technology have resulted in rapid growth in mobile communication. With this explosive growth, reliable transmission and error resilient technique become increasingly necessary to offer high quality multimedia service. The success of error resilient techniques at decoder sensitively depends on error detection performance. Therefore, this paper proposes a computationally very simple and efficient error detection technique using fragile watermark for real-time video communication. To balance between image quality degradation and error detection efficiency, fragile watermark is embedded only in least significant bits of selected transform coefficients. The proposed method is workable without additional bit in video bitstream and can be implemented very efficiently. This method will be useful in video communication in error prone environment such as wireless channel.

Coarse-grained reconfigurable architectures (CGRAs) present a potential of high compute throughput with energy efficiency. A CGRA consists of an array of functional units (FU), which communicate with each other through an interconnect network containing transmission nodes and register files. To achieve high performance from the software solutions mapped onto CGRAs, modulo scheduling of loops is generally employed. One of the key challenges in modulo scheduling for CGRAs is to explicitly handle routings of operands from a source to a destination operations through various routing resources. Existing modulo schedulers for CGRAs are slow because finding a valid routing is generally a searching problem over a large space, even with the guidance of well-defined cost metrics. Applications in traditional embedded multimedia domains are regarded relatively tolerant to a slow compile time in exchange of a high quality solution. However, many rapidly growing domains of applications, such as 3D graphics, require a fast compilation. Entrances of CGRAs to these domains have been blocked mainly due to its long compile time. We attack this problem by utilizing patternized routes, for which resources and time slots for a success can be estimated in advance when a source operation is placed. By conservatively reserving predefined resources at predefined time slots, future routings originated from the source operation are guaranteed. Experiments on a real-world 3D graphics benchmark suite show that our scheduler improves the compile time up to 6000 times while achieving average 70% throughputs of the state-of-art CGRA modulo scheduler, edge-centric modulo scheduler (EMS).

Nowadays, video technology has been successfully improved creating tremendous results. As video technology improve, multimedia devices and demands from users are diversified. Therefore, a video codec used in these devices should support various displays with different resolutions. The technology to generate a higher resolution image from the associated low-resolution image is called interpolation. Interpolation is generally performed in either the spatial domain or the DCT domain. To use the advantages of both domains, we have proposed the new adaptive interpolation algorithm based on edge direction, which adaptively exploits the advantages of both domains. The experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm performs well in terms of PSNR and reduces the blocking artifacts.
