A Study on the Development of Multi-User Virtual Reality Moving Platform Based on Hybrid Sensing (하이브리드 센싱 기반 다중참여형 가상현실 이동 플랫폼 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, high-performance HMDs (Head-Mounted Display) are becoming wireless due to the growth of virtual reality technology. Accordingly, environmental constraints on the hardware usage are reduced, enabling multiple users to experience virtual reality within a single space simultaneously. Existing multi-user virtual reality platforms use the user's location tracking and motion sensing technology based on vision sensors and active markers. However, there is a decrease in immersion due to the problem of overlapping markers or frequent matching errors due to the reflected light. Goal of this study is to develop a multi-user virtual reality moving platform in a single space that can resolve sensing errors and user immersion decrease. In order to achieve this goal hybrid sensing technology was developed, which is the convergence of vision sensor technology for position tracking, IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) sensor motion capture technology and gesture recognition technology based on smart gloves. In addition, integrated safety operation system was developed which does not decrease the immersion but ensures the safety of the users and supports multimodal feedback. A 6 m×6 m×2.4 m test bed was configured to verify the effectiveness of the multi-user virtual reality moving platform for four users.

  • Natural user interface (NUI) is used for the natural motion interface without using a specific device or tool like a mouse, keyboards, and pens. Recently, as non-contact sensor-based interaction technologies for recognizing human motion, gestures, voice, and gaze have been actively studied, an environment has been prepared that can provide more diverse contents based on various interaction methods compared to existing methods. However, as the number of sensors device is rapidly increasing, the system using a lot of sensors can suffer from a lack of computational resources. To address this problem, we proposed a real-time multi-device control system for natural interactive platform. In the proposed system, we classified two types of devices as the HC devices such as high-end commercial sensor and the LC devices such astraditional monitoring sensor with low-cost. we adopt each device manager to control efficiently. we demonstrate a proposed system works properly with user behavior such as gestures, motions, gazes, and voices.

Data Control Methods of Online Application based on Multi-Platform (멀티 플랫폼 기반 온라인 응용의 데이터 제어 기법)

  • Several multi-user online applications which are operated by the existing fixed terminals(PC) are being changed into online application based on multi-platform operated by the several PC, PDA and mobile phones to perform concurrent works recently. The contents of current online application based multi-platform are, however, very unsophisticated because the applications don't consider the simultaneous accesses of shared data by multi-user and also the asymmetry of computing power and network bandwidth among each client. This paper proposed the methods of consistency control based on multi-platform, update propagation protocols among diverse clients, object management techniques which take the characteristics of mobile clients into account. We also implemented a chatting application based on multi-platform and it showed the proposed methods perform well.

  • Currently, as the Android platform only supports single-user protection, it needs security solution for multi-users. Specially, it has to protect specific applications which have personal and financial information, and be available to support authority management for contents access. Thus, this paper proposes an integrated user authority manger model for the Android platform. It helps application authority which is capable to divide into three statuses: installation, execution, deletion with the help of information technology.

  • It is important to retrieve information that a user requires on the web. The web is an open system. The amount of information is increasing rapidly. While each of information was compiled into the database piece at a single platform in the past, it is now compiled into complicated structure at a multi-platform. Restructuring the multi-platform database is needed to efficiently retrieve information. MIRAS(Meta Information Retrieval Agent System) has a multi-platform database on web. This study applies the classification of the existent site's categories to restructure the database systematically. The empirical analysis shows that the suggested method is effective for information retrieval and multi-platform database restructuring. This study helps users to save on time-cost of searching information.

  • Recently, the concept of mobile content service has changed from providing unilaterally contents for single-device to providing same contents for multi-device. This service should be able to provide diverse contents for multi-devices without platform and specification of multi-device. In this study, we propose a bridge technique of heterogeneous smart platform supporting social immersive game. It is possible to access social immersive game by using a multi-platform bridge. To achieve this, we explain techniques of device connection and data transmission between heterogeneous devices using server-client structure and UPnP. It provides an immersive game environment for multi-user, which is able to play in a public place using big screen.

  • Recently, the 'mobility' is one of the essential item in the field of IT. This means that 'mobility' are good mediators to get collecting user's behavior and provide freedom of mobility service for user's. This paper is proposed a mobility process orchestration(MPO) model that provide multimedia to various devices. The orchestration model provides the structure and function that can be objectify a physical devices in a user's environment to provide orchestrated service of various devices to user using a concept of MSMP(Multi Source Multi Platform). Also, using the concept of Choreography can be extracted appropriate device of the various media formats for harmonious service.

  • One brand is taking various forms as it is made applicable to different platforms. As a result users are presented with different interfaces, navigations, and menu structures and therefore are given the burden of relearning. So, in order to minimize such inconveniences and provide consistency of use within multi-platform environments a guide that will increase the service environment predictability is necessary. This paper defines Family UI as to refer to the element of user interface that gives consistency within various platforms belonging to one company band. To propose implications of Family UI, this paper will analyze case studies in which the consistency policies have been applied.

This paper proposed the infrastructure for network applications based on multi-platform. We also proposed the methods of consistency control based on multi-platform, update propagation protocols among diverse clients which take the asymmetry of computing power and network bandwidth among each client into account. Moreover, we implemented a chatting application based on multi-platform and it showed the proposed infrastructure and methods perform well.
