  • A sensor network consists of many low-cost, low-power, and multi-functional sensor nodes. One of most important issues in of sensor networks is to increase network lifetime, and there have been researches on the problem. In this paper, we propose a routing mechanism to prolong network lifetime, in which each node adjusts its transmission power to send data to its neighbors. We model the energy efficient routing with power control and present an algorithm to obtain the optimal flow solution for maximum network lifetime. Then, we derive an upper bound on the network lifetime for specific network topologies.

  • Sensor networks consist of sensor nodes with small-size, low-cost, low-power, and multi-functions to sense, to process and to communicate. Minimizing power consumption of sensors is an important issue in sensor networks due to limited power in sensor networks. Clustering is an efficient way to reduce data flow in sensor networks and to maintain less routing information. In this paper, we propose a multi-hop clustering mechanism using global and local ID to reduce transmission power consumption and an efficient routing method for improved data fusion and transmission.

  • In recent years, the growing interest in wireless sensor network has resulted in thousands of publications. Most of this research is concerned with delivering raw data such as temperature, pressure, or humidity. Recently, the focus of sensor network paradigm is changing for delivering multimedia contents. However, most existing routing protocols are not very practical for transmitting multimedia contents in resource constrained sensor networks. In this paper, we propose an optimized node-disjoint multi-path routing protocol for throughput enhancement and load balancing. We focused on how to allocate traffic to independent multiple end-to-end routes. Decentralized transmission using our node-disjoint multi-path routing scheme results in bandwidth aggregation and throughput enhancement. In addition, our scheme provides ways to remove link-joint routes for decreasing routing overhead.

  • Ship Area Network(SAN) can monitor the status of ship in real time and minimize the maintenance costs by connecting various devices to the network. In particular, among researches on SAN, Wireless Sensor Network using sensor nodes that is low-cost, low-power, and multifunctional has a number of advantages. In this paper, we propose cluster-based multi-channel algorithm considering the energy efficiency in wireless sensor network in a ship. The proposed algorithm shows the result of improvement of throughput and energy efficiency, because it reduces interference between clusters by using channel allocation algorithm that is distributed and dynamic.

  • Wireless sensor networks represent a new and exciting communication paradigm which could have multiple applications in future wireless communication. Therefore, performance analysis of such a wireless sensor network paradigm is needed in complex wireless channel. Wireless networks could be an important means of providing ubiquitous communication in the future. In this paper, the BER performance of uniform distributed wireless sensor networks is evaluated in non-Gaussian noise channel. Using an analytical approach, the impact of Av. BER performance relating the coherent BPSK system at the end of a multi-hop route versus the spatial density of sensor nodes and impulsive noise parameters A and $\Gamma$ is evaluated.

  • Research on media access control (MAC) scheme for Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) has been mainly focused on energy efficiency improvement, while interest on latency is relatively weak. However, end-to-end latency could be a critical limitation specifically in the multi-hop network such as wireless multimedia sensor networks. In this paper we propose a media access control scheme with distributed transmission power control to Improve end-to-end transmission latency as well as reduce power consumption in multi-hop wireless sensor networks. According to the simulation results, the proposed scheme is turned out to be an energy efficient scheme with improved end-to-end transmission latency.

  • Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are composed of a large number of sensor nodes. Battery-powered sensor nodes have limited coverage; therefore, it is more efficient to transmit data via multi-hop communication. The network lifetime is a crucial issue in WSNs and the multi-hop routing protocol should be designed to prolong the network lifetime. Prolonging the network lifetime can be achieved by minimizing the power consumed by the nodes, as well as by balancing the power consumption among the nodes. A power imbalance can reduce the network lifetime even if several nodes have sufficient (battery) power. In this paper, we propose a routing protocol that prolongs the network lifetime by balancing the power consumption among the nodes. To improve the balance of power consumption and improve the network lifetime, the proposed routing scheme adaptively controls the transmission range using a power control according to the residual power in the nodes. We developed a routing simulator to evaluate the performance of the proposed routing protocol. The simulation results show that the proposed routing scheme increases power balancing and improves the network lifetime.

  • For large wireless sensor networks running on battery power, the time synchronization of all sensor nodes is becoming a crucial task for waking up sensor nodes with exact timing and controlling transmission and reception timing. However, as network size increases, this synchronization process tends to require long processing time consume significant power. Furthermore, a naïve synchronization scheduler may leave some nodes unsynchronized. This paper proposes a power-efficient scheduling algorithm for time synchronization utilizing the notion of density, which is defined by the number of neighboring nodes within wireless range. The proposed scheduling algorithm elects a sequence of minimal reference nodes that can complete the synchronization with the smallest possible number of hops and lowest possible power consumption. Additionally, it ensures coverage of all sensor nodes utilizing a two-pass synchronization scheduling process. We implemented the proposed synchronization algorithm in a network simulator. Extensive simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can reduce the power consumption required for the periodic synchronization process by up to 40% for large sensor networks compared to a simplistic multi-hop synchronization method.

  • As for cluster-based wireless sensor networks (WSNs), cluster lifetime is one of the most important subjects in recent researches. Besides reducing the energy consumptions of the clusters, it is necessary to make the clusters achieve equal lifetimes so that the whole network can survive longer. In this paper, we focus on the cluster lifetimes in multi-hop WSNs with cooperative multi-input single-output scheme. With a simplified model of multi-hop WSNs, we change the transmission schemes, the sizes and transmission distances of clusters to investigate their effects on the cluster lifetimes. Furthermore, linear and uniform data aggregations are considered in our model. As a result, we analyze the cluster lifetimes in different situations and discuss the requirements on the sizes and transmission distances of clusters for equal lifetimes.
