A Singular Perturbation-Like Approach to EDFA Gain Control Based on Observer Techniques

  • In this paper, we propose a singular perturbation-like approach to EDFA gain controller design and analysis. Considering a three-level model of EDFA, a gain controller containing a state observer and a channel add/drop estimator is designed based on a singular perturbation - like concept. The proposed design methodology is shown to be effective and advantageous not only in theoretically verifying the asymptotic stability of systems with multi-time scales such as EDFA but also in designing an asymptotic estimator for channel add/drops which does not satisfy the matching condition.

  • In this paper, we propose a generalized processor sharing - dynamic resource allocation (GPS-DRA) scheme which allocates the required amount of resources to each hop dynamically in cellular-based multi-hop systems. In the hybrid-distributed system considered in this paper, a central controller such as a base station (BS) should allocate resources properly to each hop. However, due to changing channel condition with time, it is difficult to allocate as much amount of resources as each hop needs for transmission. GPS-DRA scheme allocates the required amount of resources dynamically to each hop based on the amount of resources used in previous frames by each hop. The amount of control overhead generated by GPS-DRA scheme can be very small because a central controller doesn't need to collect all link information for resource allocation. Our simulation results show that channel utilization increased about 16% and cell capacity increased about 65% compared to those of fixed resource allocation (FRA) scheme.

  • As the number of CPU/GPU cores and IPs in SOC increases and applications require explosive memory bandwidth, simultaneously achieving good throughput and fairness in the memory system among interfering applications is very challenging. Recent works proposed priority-based thread scheduling and channel partitioning to improve throughput and fairness. However, combining these different approaches leads to performance and fairness degradation. In this paper, we analyze the problems incurred when combining priority-based scheduling and channel partitioning and propose dynamic priority thread scheduling and adaptive channel partitioning method. In addition, we propose dynamic address mapping to further optimize the proposed scheme. Combining proposed methods could enhance weighted speedup and fairness for memory intensive applications by 4.2% and 10.2% over TCM or by 19.7% and 19.9% over FR-FCFS on average whereas the proposed scheme requires space less than TCM by 8%.

  • In this paper, we developed a multichannel acupuncture point balance measurement system that measures skin resistances at various acupuncture points to evaluate the balancing state of the meridian. The system consists of 16 channel resistance-voltage converter, signal processing part for signal amplification and filtering, A/D conversion part, micro-controller part, and data processing part. Compared to the previously developed 1 channel or 4 channel systems, it is found that the 16 channel system can measure the skin resistances of 16 acupuncture points, simultaneously, providing various clinical information such as balance and variation of the resistance value.

  • LED light driving device has problems in efficiency and heating at higher than 150W. In addition, there is inconvenience in replacing the lighting device to another when W is not the same as the previous one. In this paper, a multi-channel LED light driver, driver embedded driver circuit in a multi-channel structure with a power system in the driver-interlocking structure was designed. With the auto control converter structure with a power efficiency above 93% and power factor above 0.98, the weight of the high efficiency LED lighting-actuating device in driver-interlocking structure, a driver in self-calibrating self-optimization structure. In this paper, at below 10% THD, the existing converter contrast weight was reduced by 40% or more.

  • Active noise control of random noise which propatate in the vehicle cabin as a form of spherical wave is the target of this study. In the previous study, the adaptive algorithm for adaptive controller is presented for the application in active noise control system. And for the preliminary study of adaptive active noise control in vehicle cabin as a real system, a computer simulation is performed on the effectiveness of the adaptive algorithm in the amplitude of the pressure fluctuation. This work studies the implementation of multi-channel feedforward adaptive algorithm for the reduction of the noise inside a vehicle cabin using a number of secondary sources derived by adaptive filtering of reference noise source. Multi-channel adaptive feedforward algorithm are verified in numerical simulation and semi-experimental justification of developed system is made on a domestic passenger car. In the results of semi-experimental study, the noise of specific region in the interior of automobile are reduced for the appreciabe sound pressure level in the operating engine rpm and finally this study suggests the capabilities of the real time active noise control in 3 dimensional acoustic fields.

  • In active noise control filter, IIR filter structure which used for control filter assures the stability property. The stability characteristics of IIR filter structure is mainly determined by pole location of control filter within unit disc, so stable selection of the value of control filter coefficient is very important. In this paper, we proposed novel adaptive stabilized Filtered_U LMS algorithms with IIR filter structure which has better convergence speed and less computational burden than conventional FIR structures, for multi-channel active noise control with vehicle enclosure signal case. For better convergence speed in adaptive algorithms, fuzzy LMS algorithms where convergence coefficient computed by a fuzzy PI type controller was proposed.

  • As the demand for higher data-rate chip-to-chip communication such as memory-to-controller, processor-to-processor increases, low cost high-speed serial links\ulcorner become more attractive. This paper describes a 0.25-fm CMOS 1.6Gbps/pin 4-level transceiver using Stub Series Terminated Logic for high Bandwidth. For multi-gigabit/second application, the data rate is limited by Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) caused by channel low pass effects, process-limited on-chip clock frequency, and serial link distance. The proposed transceiver uses multi-level signaling (4-level Pulse Amplitude Modulation) using push-pull type, double data rate and flash sampling. To reduce Process-Voltage-Temperature Variation and ISI including data dependency skew, the proposed high-speed calibration circuits with voltage swing controller, data linearity controller and slew rate controller maintains desirable output waveform and makes less sensitive output. In order to detect successfully the transmitted 1.6Gbps/pin 4-level data, the receiver is designed as simultaneous type with a kick - back noise-isolated reference voltage line structure and a 3-stage Gate-Isolated sense amplifier. The transceiver, which was fabricated using a 0.25 fm CMOS process, performs data rate of 1.6 ~ 2.0 Gbps/pin with a 400MHB internal clock, Stub Series Terminated Logic ever in 2.25 ~ 2.75V supply voltage. and occupied 500 * 6001m of area.

  • In this paper, to evaluate the performance of solenoidal typed injector, research and development had been performed on injector controller in order to respond to various performance tests, which is not only economical but easy extensible on its channels. The developed controller based on embedded system is able to precisely control the injection timing and quantity by high-pressured from the injector. Also, it is able to performance evaluation by measuring the electrical characteristics of solenoid. Additionally, it is enable precision timing control of light source and high speed camera as it is able to precisely photograph the timely spray pattern of injector.

  • As a clean fuel, LNG or LPG is widely used in large restaurants or plants instead of coal. These fuels are easy to use and cheap. However, they are inflammable very much and easily exploded at the worst. So there are many laws and regulations legislated for the handling and usage of the gas facilities. Nevertheless, very harsh explosions occurred in several domestic or foreign places. In this paper a gas detection and alarm system was developed for large facilities. A new concept for connecting many gas detectors was proposed and based upon that a system including hardware and software have been developed and tested. Although up to 16 gas detectors apart 1 km from main controller can be connected currently, this system can be easily expanded for more detectors because each gas detector receiver communicates with main controller using industrial standard RS-485 multi drop technique. Furthermore several additive functions was included for the installation and maintenance convenience.
